00:00Was Ares, the god of war, really a villain?
00:04Let's start at the beginning.
00:07Ares was the son of Zeus and Hera, born on Earth in ancient Greece.
00:11As a baby, he was sent to live with the Titans, and they raised him to be a fierce warrior.
00:16But when he returned to Olympus at age 20, Ares didn't want to fight the boring wars of the gods.
00:22He wanted to start his own.
00:24So he tricked the goddess Athena into starting a war between the gods and the Titans.
00:28And then he took all sides in the conflict and profited from it by making weapons for both sides.
00:34But Ares wasn't just a businessman.
00:36He was a warrior at heart.
00:37He loved nothing more than the smell of blood and the sound of battle.
00:41So while he may not have started the Trojan War, he definitely played a big part in it.
00:46He reveled in the carnage, enjoying the suffering of mortals.
00:50But maybe that's why he's not a god to be worshipped.
00:53Still, the Greeks sure loved their heroes.
00:55Even if Ares wasn't one of them, maybe we should ask ourselves, what makes a hero a hero?
01:01Is it the power to do good?
01:02Or the will to do evil?
01:04Or maybe it's the glory in battle that we all crave.
