A Conservative minister has described the Afghan leaks as "catastrophic", saying the breach is a huge threat to national security. The leak saw the details of almost 19,000 people seeking to flee Afghanistan released. Shadow energy secretary Claire Coutinho said the case needs to be looked at more closely to ensure the protection of the public.

00:00This has been a catastrophic leak. I can understand the initial actions that were taken
00:05because you've got some very, very sensitive information, particularly information that
00:11could threaten our national security. That information is always very, very tightly
00:14controlled for obvious reasons. You don't want it to fall into enemy hands. So I can understand
00:19why that happened once this horrific leak had taken place. In terms of what happened next,
00:23I do think it needs to be looked at and to make sure that we got the right balance between
00:27scrutiny and protecting British people and our national security as well.
