00:00all right this is your odyssey check-in at the rockstar suite at the hard rock hotel new york
00:07i am here with adam levine maroon 5 uh very exciting things going on the new album about to
00:13um drop and you know it's crazy i i feel like at this point i don't know if i believe you when you
00:19say there's no formula to making hit records because you guys have done it so consistently
00:25throughout the years has it gotten easier well no it's listen i think that we've been doing this a
00:34long time so what made a song a hit a long time ago uh is very different than what makes a song
00:40hit today i think it's been like 400 years since we've released our first song so um or give or
00:45take uh i don't know man i think that have i think that this weird and cliche as it may sound i think
00:50having i think that not having a formula is a good formula because you just never know and i
00:55if it starts to feel like you're chasing something that it doesn't feel good so this time around i
00:59just thought to myself well we've had a lot of hits and we've been really lucky to have those hits and
01:03in some cases we were more kind of quote unquote formulaic than others but this time around i really
01:09wanted to be as unformulaic as possible and just say you know what i'm gonna make the kind of music
01:14that just comes out of me naturally and we'll see what happens and we'll see where it lands i'm sure
01:18the band was thrilled about that the band has been begging me to do this for a long time since we
01:23stopped doing it yeah yeah since we started collaborating more yeah what song on love is
01:28like uh gave you the most trouble which one took the longest to complete quick question what song
01:34love is like to go as a complete probably the song i like it uh we got sexy red it's not called i like
01:42it and the song was just a hook for a long time and then sexy jumped on it before i kind of finished
01:48so i i needed to write a part for myself other than the hook and i just couldn't like i just
01:55couldn't it took me like three or four months to like finish one little part and so that little
02:00things here and there took extra time but that's always the case when we make an album yeah yeah is
02:04there a um secret to the longevity you guys have had as a band you've been doing it for such a long
02:11time and um i mean just the consistency is crazy well i will say this if i if there's one thing i think
02:17you need to have is like you need to get along with the people you work with sure because i love
02:22my band and my band loves me and i we're we've been through it but at the end of the day like we love
02:26each other and we support each other and i think if that's not there if you're in a band then it's
02:30over yeah so that's number one and then the rest of it i couldn't tell you because we just we also
02:35just love performing we love being a band we love doing it and and we love making music so
02:41if we're enjoying it and there's enjoyment there that that kind of connects to the we should all get
02:46a long thing but you know i guess that's the only thing you as long as that's the case and your core
02:51group is tight yeah you know the rest of it like we'll come and go and it'll ebb and flow and we've
02:56been bigger at certain times and not as big at other times and you have to understand that that's
03:00the case too you can't you can't always be on top yeah you know like and chasing that too hard i think
03:06can like can can sink you so you just got to kind of go with it see what happens i would love for you
03:11to give me a guesstimation at this point how many unreleased songs would you say maroon 5 has
03:17accumulated not too many okay not too many as a fan that's a that's good news because i hate when i
03:23hear like there's a hundred and we're never gonna hear them no there's no vault it's hard to write
03:27songs you know like i i feel like i'm so critical of myself too they're like there's not much i'm not
03:33sitting on anything yeah i wish i was i'd be pretty cool so the tour is coming up a lot of people talk
03:37about um pre-show rituals what about post-show rituals like when adam levine walks off the stage
03:45what usually happens it's pretty crazy you sure you're ready for this bedtime sleep really sleep
03:53is king y'all so that's it huh yo we all have to sleep because sleep is what keeps us alive yes yes
04:00that is the cornerstone for health i love sleep i i fucking love especially now that i have three kids
04:06right right man when you sleep when i sleep now that shit is special yeah absolutely so speaking
04:12of health how does the workout routine change when you're on the road does like the trainer come
04:16with you are you doing a different regimen yeah always we always have um austin he comes out with
04:21us and trains us and uh you know i work out when i'm at home too and he comes out every once in a
04:26while but yeah like the workouts are get all they've only gotten more intense and i only have to be
04:32more i'm older now so yeah a little bit a little bit still lovely though hey you know amazing skin
04:38i'm trying yes thank you so much of course um this is a great interview uh but yeah like i but i love
04:45i'm also kind of super weirdly passionate about like kind of taking care of myself at this point
04:50and i have to yeah because for performing and you can't get up there and be gassed after five seconds
04:55totally totally absolutely yeah uh before we wrap brother um i would love if you could share um
05:01something you auditioned for acting wise that would surprise your fans maybe
05:06cool question because i have a really cool answer drop it i uh i auditioned for i was struggling
05:15it was like 19 ish and i met a woman who's a friend of the family who's a casting director and she
05:22she was like hey why don't you go to this audition it was for the movie rock star remember the movie
05:26rock star what yeah it was for a role i i don't really remember i was also probably really bad in
05:33the in the in the audition i'm not a particular i'm not like a great actor like i can hold my own like
05:39i've been in a couple movies but like i loved you and what was that movie with um the was it the
05:44musical or whatever oh i love well begin again was amazing and like that that was a one-off thing yeah
05:49yeah and like but i never like especially when i was young i'd never done any of this kind of
05:53sure so i was a musician so i showed up as a musician and i i would probably gave a horrible
05:58audition and then uh the part went to some uh i was for it was for the brother i think it was for
06:04either the oh it was like the best friend of mark walberg's character okay okay like in the garage
06:08band yeah like who like doesn't make it and mark gets plucked and his character like i so i was
06:13supposed to be the brother and i wasn't very good a learning i think they gave it to a really good
06:17actor okay okay yeah adam we're so excited for you guys uh the new album the tour and everything
06:23thank you for taking out the time brother thanks for talking to me enjoy that video see more
