00:00On the streets of Manchester, England, young Jimmy Grimble is practicing kick-ups with his
00:04soccer ball. Although he's skilled in the sport and an avowed Manchester City fan,
00:09his shyness and lack of confidence prevent him from showing people his talent.
00:13On another day practicing on the balcony of his apartment, he receives a visit from Johnny,
00:17his mother Donna's new boyfriend. Despite his strange manner, Johnny tries to please the boy
00:22and invites him to play soccer, but in a dispute over the ball, the man ends up knocking Jimmy to
00:27the ground. This only makes the boy more uncomfortable, but when Johnny leaves,
00:31Donna asks her son to give her boyfriend a chance. The next day, Jimmy goes to Green Rock High School
00:37and has to face another problem, the troublemakers in his class. Among them are Psycho, a fanatic who
00:43beats up any Manchester United fan, and his best friend Gordon. After sneaking past them, Jimmy goes
00:48to buy a snack and comes across a new student at the school called Sarah. The young man is charmed
00:53by the girl at first sight, but Gordon and his gang soon show up to upset him. The boy fights back and
00:59tries to run away, but ends up being cornered in an alley, with the students taking his backpack and
01:04dirtying it with something unsavory. The school soccer coach, Eric Wirrell, sees everything from
01:09the bathroom window, but he's so dissatisfied with his job that he just ignores it. Later, Jimmy cleans
01:14out his backpack from the bathroom and heads to class, when he sees the coach put up a call-up ad for
01:19the Green Rock team. Seeing that this is his chance to prove himself, Jimmy agrees to take part, and
01:24arriving at the field, he meets goalkeeper Casper and midfielder Elvis. However, to his misfortune, he also
01:31meets Gordon and Psycho, both of whom are favorites to make the team. Meanwhile, in the school office, the
01:37principal starts a meeting to decide how to raise funds for the school. Suddenly, the meeting is interrupted
01:42by Ken, Gordon's father, who promises to provide funds to the institution if the Green Rock team takes part in
01:48the local high school cup. His plan is not only to help the school, but also to put his son in the
01:53spotlight so that he can be selected by a sports agent. The principal supports the idea, without
01:57suspecting that during training, Gordon starts showing off on the pitch, and purposely kicks the
02:02ball straight into Jimmy's face. The coach doesn't like the attitude and tells the boy to leave the
02:07field, but Gordon refuses and challenges his authority. Eric then expels him from the team, only to find out
02:13from the director that the boy will be one of the team's permanent players, due to his father's
02:17influence. Left with no choice, he accepts the conditions and tells the principal that the first
02:22team he will face will be from Wreckingham School. After training, Jimmy walks home, singing alone as
02:28he passes the cemetery, when he comes across Sarah sitting in front of him. The young woman seems to
02:33sympathize with him, but Jimmy is so embarrassed that he runs away. To make matters worse, when he goes to
02:39his mother at work, she tells him to go home alone because he has to work overtime. Frustrated, the boy
02:44makes his way to the apartment, when he is once again surprised by Psycho and Gordon. The two bullies
02:50run after him, but Jimmy is helped by a strange lady who takes him to hide in the old basement of a
02:54dilapidated apartment. The woman introduces herself as Alice and says she's seen Jimmy practicing soccer
03:00in the street. She is surprised by the boy's talent and gives him a pair of old boots, saying that they are
03:06magic and will help him impress people with his soccer. Jimmy thanks her for her help, but he
03:10doesn't believe her story and throws the boots in a garbage can. After that, the boy heads home,
03:15when he sees Harry, his mother's ex-boyfriend, in front of the apartment trying to win Donna back.
03:20In the past, he and Jimmy got on very well, with Harry taking him to a soccer stadium and giving him
03:26a Manchester City backpack as a present. However, one night, Jimmy and Donna discovered that Harry was
03:31married, which led to the end of their relationship. As soon as Donna enters the house, Harry sees Jimmy
03:37in the hallway and tries to get closer to the boy. However, he's still hurt by everything that
03:42happened, and just walks in without wanting to talk to Harry. Another day passes, and as Jimmy
03:47leaves the apartment, he sees Sarah being bothered by three girls. They mock her and call her a vampire
03:52for wearing a dark overcoat during the day. Sarah defends herself, saying that she's not a vampire,
03:57but a boxer, and to prove it, she punches the leader of the group right in the nose.
04:02This attitude only makes Jimmy even more in love and he rushes off to find the team for the first
04:07match. However, when he gets there, Gordon and his henchmen push the boy against the fence,
04:12take his boots and throw them in a garbage truck. Without them, he can't play, but Jimmy remembers
04:17the boots Alice gave him and runs towards the garbage can. Fortunately, the pair is still there and
04:22the boy runs back to the meeting point, where Eric and the rest of the team are already leaving
04:26with the car. Even so, the boy doesn't give up and manages to catch up with the group,
04:31leaving Gordon annoyed, while Eric is surprised by Jimmy's determination.
04:35Hours later, they arrive at Wreckingham Stadium and the coach passes out the positions to the
04:40players. Jimmy is left as a substitute on the bench, while Gordon is named as a defender,
04:45as Eric needs an experienced player in defense. However, the boy refuses, and as well as being named
04:50as a striker, he disrespects the coach in front of everyone. Again, Eric is forced to accept,
04:56and so the game begins, but the team soon discovers that the rules of soccer don't apply
05:01against Wreckingham. As well as playing on a muddy pitch, the players attack each other with punches,
05:06kicks and headbutts, while the referee turns a blind eye and favors the home team.
05:10Jimmy thinks it's absurd, but Eric doesn't care and just waits for the game to end.
05:14When the second half arrives, Gordon ends up receiving a low blow and has to leave,
05:19with the coach sending Jimmy to take his place. Even though he knows he'll be targeted the whole time,
05:24the boy enters the field and is put in defense. Shortly afterwards, the Wreckingham striker
05:29runs towards him, but ends up advancing the ball too far. Taking advantage of this opportunity,
05:35Jimmy relies on the power of his magic boots, and to everyone's surprise, he kicks the ball
05:39from outside the box and hits the opposing goal. The goalkeeper, who was talking on his cell phone,
05:44doesn't even see the ball go in, while the rest of the team runs to celebrate the victory thanks to
05:49Jimmy. Afterwards, the boy runs to talk to Alice and thanks her for the magic boots.
05:53The woman is happy about this, but warns the boy that, in fact, there is no magic in these boots.
05:59Instead, they were worn by a former Manchester City professional footballer called Robbie Brewer.
06:04As soon as he returns home, the boy starts researching this Robbie Brewer, when someone
06:09rings the doorbell. Opening the door, Jimmy finds Johnny, who tells him he's moving into his house,
06:15and as expected, the boy doesn't like it one bit. The next morning, when he arrives at school,
06:20Sarah goes to talk to Jimmy, saying that she heard about his performance in the match.
06:25Although she doesn't like soccer, the girl is impressed by his determination and calls him
06:29over to introduce him to her greatest passion, boxing. After the lesson, Sarah takes Jimmy to
06:34the cemetery and shows him the tombstone of a former fighter whom she admired. She then asks him
06:39about the boots in his backpack and he says they belong to Robbie Brewer, a player who was supposedly
06:44at Manchester City. Sarah recognizes the name and takes Jimmy to another gravestone, but it's not the
06:49same Robbie Brewer. The boy then decides to go and ask about the player at the official Manchester
06:54City ground, and asks Donna to go with him. However, his mother has to work all day and asks Johnny to
07:00do it. The guy doesn't like the idea very much, but when she hands him 50 pounds, he soon changes his
07:06mind. Hours later, the two arrive at the stadium, but before going in, Johnny decides to buy a drink.
07:12However, as he enters the bar, he is robbed by two criminals, who tell him to bring the rest of
07:17the money he owes, or they'll come back and beat him up. Without the money for the tickets,
07:22Jimmy can't enter the stadium, but he doesn't want to give up and decides to come back the next day.
07:26Before that, he goes to school, and when he tells Sarah about what happened, the girl offers to go
07:31along to the stadium. He accepts and the two of them are leaving when they come across Gordon and his
07:36girlfriend. Because Jimmy had won the game in his place, the boy starts teasing him, asking if he and
07:41Sarah are dating. The boy remains silent, but Sarah says yes, and to prove it, kisses Jimmy in front of
07:47everyone. Even so, Gordon continues to tease them and the girl expects Jimmy to do something, but he
07:53just accepts the provocation and leaves alone. When they arrive at the stadium, the janitor tells the
07:58boy to talk to the resident of the house opposite, as he has more information about the team. When he
08:03knocks on the door, Jimmy is surprised to find none other than Eric, the school's coach. It is then
08:08revealed that Eric was a striker for Manchester City, who on his debut became the team's top
08:13scorer. However, after his retirement, he lost his passion for the sport and now coaches the students
08:18at the school, without any prospect of winning. On hearing this, Jimmy asks his teacher to share
08:23what he has learned with the rest of the team, as other students want the chance to play professionally.
08:28A few days later, it's time for the second game, this time against Northmore, a promising team from
08:33the region. When they arrive at the court, Eric tries to talk to the team, but Ken interferes
08:38again and decides to set up the strategy for the game. As soon as the team takes to the court,
08:43all Ken does is tell all the players to pass the ball to his son Gordon. As expected, the team is
08:49completely lost on the pitch and concedes a goal to the opposition in the first half.
08:53Jimmy gets frustrated and tries to fix his old boots, when one of the spectators says he recognizes
08:58the pair, as they were worn by the original Manchester City lineup. The guy turns out to
09:03be Pete Drake, another former player, and he immediately recognizes Eric as Manchester City's
09:08top scorer. Upon hearing this, the entire Greenrock team is surprised, and for the first time,
09:14they show respect for the coach and follow his lead. Thanks to this, the team returns for the second
09:19half, and with Eric's help, the players manage to regain control of the game. During a cross, the ball
09:25arrives at the feet of Jimmy, who manages to equalize the game with a first-time shot. The match
09:30continues and Eric notices something different about Jimmy, who is now more confident and easily
09:35dribbles past the opposition. When it was just him and the goalkeeper, the boy once again kicked the
09:40ball and scored the winning goal, sending the whole crowd wild. With this victory, the team becomes
09:45more united and the next few games are won thanks to the goals of Jimmy, the team's new star.
09:50Before long, they reach the semi-finals and the boy is taken in by the other players,
09:54while Gordon is being sidelined. One night on the way back from training, Eric's car breaks down in
09:59the middle of the road and they can't get back. Jimmy still believes that his boots are magic,
10:03so he makes a plea for them to get out of the situation. By coincidence or not, a delivery truck
10:08appears, driven by Harry. The guy is happy to see Jimmy, and as well as offering him and the rest of
10:14the team a lift, he also promises to stop by Donna's work and pick her up. Meanwhile, the young mother
10:19is doing her job, when suddenly, her boss starts bothering her. With a lot of effort, Donna manages
10:25to fend off the lunatic, and escapes just in time to find Jimmy and Harry waiting outside.
10:30The two of them take her home, but soon another situation arises when Johnny sees Donna next to
10:35her ex. Harry tries to explain that he was just giving them a lift, but the guy tells him to leave
10:40and not to mess with his fiancée again. With no other choice, Harry leaves and Jimmy is only made
10:45more uncomfortable by Johnny's presence in his home. Even so, he needs to focus on the semi-final
10:50match, and when the day comes, Jimmy once again stands out, opening the scoring with a goal from
10:56outside the box and another header. Thanks to this victory, the team from Greenrock will play in the
11:01grand final at Manchester City's big stadium. After passing home, the boy decides to talk to Alice
11:06about his performance in the games and about not having found anyone who knew Robbie Brewer.
11:11The woman says that the two were once very close, but they grew apart because of a lie.
11:15According to Alice, she found out that Robbie had a disease that affected his eyesight,
11:20but in order not to make him give up his career, she kept it a secret. Alice justifies her attitude
11:24by saying that sometimes, when you like someone very much, a light lie can be less painful than
11:29the truth. Jimmy doesn't agree, but he invites her to the final match as a way of thanking her for the
11:34magic boots. Although people don't look kindly on her for being a homeless person, she is happy with
11:39the invitation and accepts. A few more days pass and Jimmy says goodbye to his mother and goes to meet
11:45the team for one last training session before the big game. On the way, he meets Sarah, and feeling
11:50guilty, Jimmy asks her if she has anything to do later. The girl replies that, even though she
11:55doesn't like soccer, she might go to the stadium to watch the final, indicating that, despite everything,
12:01she doesn't harbor any resentment towards Jimmy. He's happy to hear this and heads off to training,
12:06when he sees a crane stopped in front of Alice's house. Unaware that the woman is hiding there,
12:11the operator uses the wrecking ball to destroy the abandoned building, with Jimmy running
12:16desperately to stop him. The boy explains that there is a woman living in the house and leads
12:20the operators to the other side of the building. Tragically, Jimmy comes across Alice's lifeless
12:25body on the ground, indicating that she had lost her life in the intense cold of last night.
12:30This loss leaves Jimmy shaken and he goes to the stadium, but without the friend who supported him
12:35and gave him her boots as a present. Also in trouble is Donna, who decides to go to her son's game on her own
12:41and knows Johnny isn't a soccer fan. However, when she can't find the money in her purse,
12:46Donna decides to search the apartment, only to find Johnny with another woman. Furious,
12:51she realizes that, as well as being cheated on, the guy had stolen the money from her purse,
12:56and in revenge, she knocks him out with one punch. Back at the stadium, the crowd begins to gather in
13:01the stands, while the teams prepare in the locker rooms. Now that Greenrock is in the playoffs,
13:06the school principal expects Ken to keep his end of the bargain and give the institution
13:10the investment he promised. However, when he sees that his son is no longer the star of the team,
13:16he goes back on his word and will only provide the funding if the team wins the final match.
13:20The principal is furious, but Ken warns him that if Gordon doesn't attract the attention of an agent
13:25with this game, the school will lose the money. Faced with this situation, the principal decides to
13:30call Eric in for a chat and asks him to leave Jimmy on the bench during the match. Since this is the
13:35boy's big chance to become a professional, the coach gets angry and says he won't do it,
13:40but the principal insists, because he needs the funding for the school. Eric then takes him to
13:44the locker room and tells him to tell the whole team that Jimmy won't be playing today. Upon hearing
13:49this, the other members, including Psycho, stand up in front of the principal, saying that they won't
13:54play if Jimmy isn't on the pitch. Recognizing his mistake, the director goes to talk to Ken,
13:59saying that Jimmy will remain in the team. However, more problems arise when Gordon,
14:04overcome with envy, sneaks Jimmy's pair of boots and throws them in the river.
14:08On returning to the dressing room, Eric realizes what the boy has done and asks him where the boots
14:13are, but he just says he doesn't know anything about it. All that's left now is to buy another
14:18pair in the stadium store, but Jimmy believes he won't be able to play without his magic boots.
14:23Shortly afterwards, Donna turns up to check on her son and tells him about the end of her
14:27relationship with Johnny. However, even this news can't cheer Jimmy up, who, as well as being
14:33without his boots, has lost Alice and hasn't found out who Robbie Brewer was. Still, the boy goes with
14:38the rest of the team to the entrance of the stadium, trying to gather his courage for the last game.
14:43Meanwhile, more spectators begin to arrive, including Harry, who goes to pick up a leaflet from Bob,
14:49one of the workers at the venue. He is pleased to see Jimmy's picture on the cover and even more
14:53pleased to meet Donna again. Harry reveals that his marriage is no longer working and has filed
14:58for divorce, with Donna saying the same about Johnny, and finally the two reconcile and go
15:03to watch Jimmy's game together. The boy, however, is still shaken, and even though he's going to play
15:09in the official stadium of his favorite team, he can't stay focused. With both teams on the pitch,
15:14the referee blows the whistle for the start of the game, with Jimmy dominating the ball,
15:18but he makes a wrong pass and misses an attacking move. As a result, the opposing team begin to push
15:24forward, and in a dangerous move, Jimmy tries to score a header, but Casper manages to save in time.
15:30Eric soon realizes that there is something wrong with Jimmy, who is misplacing every pass.
15:35Amid the disarray in the Greenrock team, the Huntington players make another attacking move,
15:40and with a kick, they open the scoring at 1-0. The players didn't understand what was happening to
15:45Jimmy, and with another misplaced pass, the opposition took their chance and scored again.
15:50With the match at 2-0, Eric runs out of options and calls a player off the bench to make a
15:54substitution. As soon as the first half is over, everyone goes back to the dressing room except
15:59Jimmy, with Harry and Eric going to talk to him to try and motivate him. The coach reveals that when
16:05he was still a professional footballer, he always got nervous before a match. To feel calmer,
16:09he would have a drink, but in one match, he drank more than he should have and ended up fighting
16:14with an opposing player. The problem was that this same player suffered a serious fracture
16:18because of him and was never able to play again. Since then, Eric has given up soccer because he
16:23feels guilty, and he doesn't want Jimmy, like him, to miss out on the big chance of his life.
16:28Harry agrees and tells the boy to trust himself and put the magic boots aside. However, Jimmy insists
16:34that they had powers because they belonged to the professional footballer, Robbie Brewer.
16:38On hearing this name, Harry says he knows who he is and takes Jimmy to meet him, who is his
16:43friend Bob, the stadium official. It is then revealed that Robbie was Alice's son and he
16:48was never a Manchester player, but the team's mascot. In the end, the story about the player
16:53and the magic boots was invented by Alice, told to give Jimmy more motivation. With this,
16:58the boy realizes that everything he has achieved has always been the result of his talent, and
17:02with renewed motivation, he returns to play the second half of the match. As soon as the whistle
17:07blew, Jimmy got hold of the ball and began to dribble past the opposition players without
17:12difficulty. As soon as he got close to the box, he unleashed a shot and managed to reduce
17:17the score, scoring a goal. In the second move, Jimmy again took charge of the ball, but this
17:22time he passed it to Gordon, who also scored, leveling the game. With a minute to go, Huddington
17:27tried to turn the game around, but Casper manages to save the shot. He then throws the
17:32ball to Jimmy, who runs alone into the box and has the chance to score the decisive goal.
17:37However, Gordon is on the other side of the pitch asking for a pass, and with the players
17:41coming towards him, Jimmy decides to give his rival a chance, but also returns the blow to the
17:46face. With an accurate shot, he crosses the ball and hits the man in the face, who manages to direct
17:52it into the net. Thanks to this, Greenrock win the match 3 goals to 2, clinching victory in the
17:57school's cup after years without a win. Jimmy is welcomed as the great hero of the match, but when
18:02the Manchester United agent turns up, Ken tries to make him choose his son. As soon as Jimmy heads
18:08back to the dressing room, the agent takes Gordon aside and offers the boy a place in
18:12his team. However, the boy refuses, as his real dream is to join Manchester City, with
18:17the help of his coach Eric. Afterwards, Sarah goes to congratulate him on his victory, and
18:23now confident in himself, Jimmy kisses her in front of everyone, with the girl returning
18:27the gesture. Finally, before returning home, Jimmy asks Eric to show his talent on the pitch
18:33once again. Then, with Kasper in defense, the coach takes a penalty kick and hits the goal,
18:38proving that soccer, more than a sport, is a passion that will always be alive in every
18:42player. So what did you think of this movie? Leave it in the comments below. And if you
