L'émission MasterChef au Royaume-Uni est dans la tourmente: le contrat de son présentateur John Torode ne sera pas renouvelé après des accusations de racisme, a annoncé la BBC, peu après la mise à pied d'un autre visage du programme, accusé de harcèlement sexuel.
"Nous ne tolérerons aucun langage raciste", a écrit dans un communiqué la BBC, qui diffuse la très populaire émission culinaire. "Le contrat de John Torode sur MasterChef ne sera pas renouvelé", a ajouté le groupe audiovisuel public britannique.
Le présentateur nie avoir tenu des propos racistes. Il a affirmé "ne pas se souvenir de l'incident" et a dit être "choqué et attristé" par les accusations contre lui.
Celles-ci figurent dans un rapport commandé par le producteur de l'émission, Banijay UK, à propos d'une autre star de MasterChef, Gregg Wallace, accusé lui de harcèlement sexuel. John Torode, 59 ans, et Gregg Wallace, 60 ans, avaient commencé à présenter l'émission ensemble en 2005.
Gregg Wallace a été renvoyé la semaine dernière de la présentation de MasterChef et la BBC a annoncé lundi qu'elle ne travaillerait plus avec lui.
Le rapport a conclu lundi que 45 des 83 accusations contre Gregg Wallace étaient fondées, portant notamment sur des propos à connotation sexuelle mais aussi pour l'une d'elles sur des attouchements non consentis.
La BBC a présenté ses excuses à toutes les personnes qui ont été victimes des agissements de son présentateur.
