Dangote submits paperwork to build "biggest, deepest" port in Nigeria

The port, for which plans were submitted in late June, according to outlet Bloomberg, is meant to facilitate exports, in particular of Dangote conglomerate products.

00:00It could be the biggest and deepest port in Nigeria.
00:07Aliko Dangute, Africa's richest man, has reportedly submitted paperwork to construct a new seaport in Ogun State in southwestern Nigeria.
00:16The port is expected to facilitate exports, including liquefied natural gas, or LNG.
00:23And the project could also accelerate the expansion of the Dangute conglomerate.
00:30The group is active in a range of industries, including oil refinery, fertilizer production and cement manufacturing.
00:38According to the proposal, the port would be constructed in Olokola.
00:42It is around 100 kilometers away from key Dangute fertilizer and petrochemical plants in Lagos.
00:49Initially, these plants were supposed to also be located in Olokola,
00:53but stalled negotiations between the conglomerate and the state's previous administration led to the plants being built near Lagos.
01:01It is for now unclear whether the proposal for the new port has been accepted.
