00:00Which EU countries can't live without AC?
00:08Whatever you do, don't take AC away from the Italians.
00:13Italy alone accounts for over a third of all electricity used for air conditioning
00:19across all 27 EU member states,
00:22nearly 23,000 terajoules out of a total of just over 60,000.
00:28That's despite having some of the highest electricity prices in Europe,
00:33so why are Italians so hooked on AC?
00:36In recent years the country has been hit by brutal heatwaves
00:41with temperatures reaching 48 degrees in regions like Sicily or Sardinia.
00:47Add to that that the country is home to the oldest population in Europe
00:52and you get the full picture.
00:54Greece tells a similar story.
00:56Despite its smaller size, it ranks second in AC consumption in the EU,
01:01just over 8,000 terajoules, followed by France, Spain and Germany.
01:07But here's the twist.
01:08Air conditioning makes up just a tiny slice of household electricity use,
01:13accounting for only 0.6%.
01:17The lion's share goes to heating of rooms 62.5%,
01:22followed by water heating at 15% and lighting at 14.5%.
01:29And the foward which is shooting at 15.5%,
01:30the foward didn't return but it ήταν at 4.5%.
01:31The foward trees are at 15.5%.
01:32And the foward is raising of 45.5%.
