Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Monday, National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett was asked about tariff negotiations with Mexico, Canada, and the European Union.
Transcript
00:00News Nation, is there anything you can discuss about sanctions being discussed with Russia right now?
00:04There's nothing I can talk about that.
00:05On the EU, Canada, and Mexico, where do negotiations stand?
00:09Those countries have received letters, but there have been talks underway.
00:13There are talks underway still, and I think the President has set a deadline
00:16so that everybody gets the clarity that you all crave by the beginning of August.
00:20I have time for one last question, please.
00:21President Trump was clearly upset against Spain at the Hague Summit
00:25at the NATO for lack of commitment of nuclear spending,
00:28and he said he would negotiate directly with Spain on tariffs.
00:32Did that happen?
00:33Because really the negotiations are between the EU as a bloc.
00:38Did that happen? Will Spain suffer consequences?
00:41Most of the trade policy in Europe is done through the EU,
00:46and so specific discussions with Spain I'm not going to be done.
00:49What do you expect from the EU?
00:51We'll see. We've got a few weeks left.
00:54Thank you very much.
00:55Thank you so much, Kevin.
