Colombia captures Italian mafia liaison in Latin America
Colombian police arrest Italian national Giuseppe Palermo, believed to be the Latin American liaison for an international drug trafficking mafia, in a case linked to the arrest of around twenty suspects by Italian authorities.
Palermo, alias 'Peppe,' is the subject of an Interpol red notice and is wanted for drug trafficking, Colombian police chief Carlos Fernando Triana says. Italy has requested his extradition, identifying him as a key figure in the powerful ’Ndrangheta mafia, which maintains ties with Colombia’s main cocaine-producing cartel, the Clan del Golfo.
