00:00What is the state of global humanitarian aid?

00:08Driven by an America First approach, US President Donald Trump cut 80% of the US Agency for

00:14International Development's contracts in early 2025.

00:19European governments have also slashed aid this year, diverting budgets to fund defence

00:23and rearmament faced with Russia's military threat.

00:27According to predictions, government-funded humanitarian aid could contract between 34%

00:33and 45% by the end of the year in comparison with 2023.

00:38Despite 2025 marking a turning point, record cuts to aid already began in 2024, reversing

00:45a decade-long upward funding trend.

00:47This aid drop has exacerbated the gap between needs and funding.

00:51Since 2021, 70 million more people are in need of aid.

00:56These are the countries and territories which received the most aid in 2024.

01:01The US, the world's top humanitarian donor, reduced its funding by 10%, while funding from

01:06EU institutions dropped by 12.7%.

01:11Although some European governments increased aid, the majority slashed it.

01:15In all, 16 of the world's 20 largest donors reduced aid, alongside a smaller but notable

01:21number of private donors.

01:23The sector's reliance on a relatively small number of large donors renders the system vulnerable
