We spoke to new Newry City manager Stuart King ahead of the beginning of pre season football next week.

00:00So Stuart you've been in the job now about two months or so, you've been dealing

00:03obviously a lot of off the field stuff but it's nearly time to get going with the

00:06on the field stuff and I'm sure you're looking forward to it. Yeah listen it's

00:09been non-stop to be honest with you, I've had a few holidays I'll give that out but

00:13yeah plenty of changes, plenty of players come in and now we're looking

00:17forward to getting on the pitch. Have you had much opportunities to sort of speak

00:20with the supporters, gauge their hopes, their expectations for for the season

00:24ahead? Yeah I think everybody the club just wants to do well, just want to win games

00:27but all I want to do is smash people's faces again, get the crowd back, get

00:32them back on set again, make people happy coming to watch your football and

00:35hopefully they'll have a successful season. Yeah and of course the club suffered

00:38back-to-back relegations I suppose Stuart the big thing is probably just getting

00:41confidence back isn't it amongst the place and after two tough seasons do you

00:44want to try to turn that around quickly? Yeah well they say that's in the past now

00:48it's a whole new project, it's a fresh start, it's a total rebuild, I've brought in

00:53plenty of players, so we need to make sure let's yell out now to get results and that's

00:57it's all important, we've got plenty of competitions, they try and win but the

01:00most important thing is they try and get out of this league. Yeah of course and now

01:03you're starting pre-season soon, it's probably important isn't it, it's cliche

01:07but you want to start the season well as we touched on, it's been a tough spell

01:09you're saying now things are going to be different and hopefully that's the case

01:12and you'll want to get off to it and start. Yeah well there's plenty of cup

01:15competitions, there's not many league games before Christmas so listen if we

01:18want to be successful we've got to win them cup games so yeah it's like I say a whole new

01:23team, a whole new squad, a whole new background staff and hopefully we can

01:27hold you. Yeah and ten signings I think you've made by my count and you know

01:31obviously you're signing players in different positions, different styles but

01:34what sort of characteristics are you looking for in a player whenever you're

01:36dipping into the transfer market? Winners, that's all I want, I do

01:40anything to win a game of football. Proving, a lot of them have been proven, I will give

01:45young boys opportunities but they have to step up straight away and show the

01:49senior lads that they have to beat the same standards because it's all about

01:53setting standards now. We're a big big club in the third division in Northern Ireland

01:57now and it's up to us to get ourselves out of it. Yeah and probably experience is

02:00what you're looking for from them boys as well? Yeah and thankfully I've been able to

02:03recruit quite well and don't be wrong it's not finished yet hopefully there's more to

02:07come but yeah listen it's just about trying to get in the gel and hopefully we can get

02:12enough results to get us out of this league. Yeah and is that difficult you know when you have a bit of an

02:16overhaul in the squad like that is it difficult to get sort of an

02:18understanding between players and I suppose that's what you're looking for

02:21isn't it now in pre-season? Exactly, I generally hope they chill, they have to chill

02:25but yeah it's up to us in pre-season to make sure we find the winning mentality and

02:29get the winning side in the best way we can get the best out of the players. And

02:33you're happy with the backing you've got from the club as well to allow you to go

02:36out and recruit these players? Listen it's a fantastic football club, it's a proper proper

02:41football club, one of the biggest clubs in Northern Ireland and the

02:44facilities are unbelievable and I'm grateful they have a job. Yeah and then last one for me

02:49what sort of tangible objectives are you looking for this season? Just be successful, make

02:52people happy, win plenty of games of football and I'm not going to say anything else apart from it.
