State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce was asked about the new sanctions on Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories.
Transcript
00:00Thank you, Tammy.
00:01Two quick things.
00:02MS NAUERT- Yes, sir.
00:03On Albanese.
00:04MS NAUERT- Yes.
00:05On the timing of imposing these sanctions, does it have anything to do with her
00:09tweet the day before that basically slamming Greece, France, and Italy for allowing Netanyahu's
00:20plan over their airspace?
00:21MS NAUERT- No.
00:22When there are signatories to the Rome Protocol – I mean, she's talking about
00:26technical things.
00:27MS NAUERT- Yeah.
00:28This has been – and it's a good question because it highlights that this is not an
00:35action based on one action or one thing.
00:39This has been a long-term issue.
00:42And what I will say to you is today – and just more details – the United States is
00:47imposing sanctions on UN Human Rights Council Special Reporter Francesca Albanese for her
00:54abuse of that role to directly engage in ICC actions against Israeli officials.
01:01MS NAUERT- In recent weeks, she has also targeted U.S. companies in an unacceptable campaign of
01:06political and economic warfare.
01:08MS NAUERT- As the President's executive order, EO 14203, makes clear, the ICC's actions set
01:16a dangerous precedent for lawfare that endangers our national security and foreign policy and
01:21infringes on the sovereignty of the United States.
01:24MS NAUERT- The President declared a national emergency under the EO that emphasizes, quote,
01:30the United States will impose tangible and significant consequences on those responsible for the
01:36ICC's transgressions, which would include blocking of property and visa restrictions.
01:42MS NAUERT- The United States will take whatever actions we deem necessary and appropriate to protect
01:48our sovereignty, to protect Israel and any other U.S. ally, any other U.S. ally from illegitimate actions by the ICC.
01:59That's why that occurred.
02:00MR. Okay.
