The trial of Sean Combs was a 2025 criminal trial in the Federal District Court in Lower Manhattan, New York City, in which American rapper and producer Sean Combs was accused of a series of sexual-related felonies, to which he pleaded not guilty. On July 2, 2025, after three days of deliberation, the jury found Combs not guilty of racketeering conspiracy, and of sex trafficking charges; and found him guilty on two counts of transportation for the purposes of prostitution.

00:00Sean Diddy Combs to be sentenced October 3rd Sean Diddy Combs will be sentenced in a hearing
00:09set to be held October 3rd. Last week, Combs was found guilty on two counts of transportation to
00:16engage in prostitution after an eight-week trial. He faces up to 10 years in prison on each count,
00:22the legal analysts predict he will get much less. He was acquitted of the more serious charges of
00:28which he was accused, racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. After the verdict was announced
00:33last Wednesday, Judge Arun Subramanian had proposed scheduling the sentencing hearing for October 3rd,
00:39but was told by Combs' lawyers that they'd hoped to expedite the process.
00:44Ahead of a remote hearing on Tuesday, attorneys for Combs first proposed a date of September 22nd
00:50for the sentencing hearing, but they later revised their proposal to October 3rd in a subsequent
00:55letter to the judge shortly after. The first letter said the defense proposal was subject
01:00to consent from the probation office. The second letter, which essentially backed off their push
01:05to expedite his sentencing, shifted the sentencing hearing back to its original date and said the
01:10probation office did not object to that schedule. The attorneys and Combs dialed into the remote
01:16hearing, but it lasted less than a minute after Subramanian's deputy told the attorneys on the call
01:21that the judge would get back to them about their proposed date. The music mogul has been in custody
01:27at the Federal Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest last September.
01:32During a bail hearing that followed the verdict last Wednesday, Combs' lawyers requested he be
01:36released on bail, arguing that he was not convicted of any violent offenses. The judge denied the request
01:43to release Combs on bail, telling Combs' attorney Mark Agnifilo that in his closing arguments he
01:48told the jury that there was violence here. And domestic violence is violence. And you said this
01:56is a case that did involve violence. Combs received a standing ovation when he returned to the Metropolitan
02:01Detention Center after the verdict in his federal criminal trial last week, according to his
02:06spokesperson. Prosecutors had accused Combs of leading a criminal enterprise in which he allegedly used
02:12threats, violence, forced labor, bribery, and other crimes to coerce his former girlfriend's Cassie
02:18Ventura and a woman who testified under a pseudonym Jane to engage in drug-fueled sex performances with
02:24male escorts called freak-offs or hotel nights. Combs pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyers
02:30argued the so-called freak-offs were consensual given his long-term relationships with both Ventura and
02:36Jane. Combs also faces dozens of civil lawsuits for which he has denied all wrongdoing. Source, CNN.
02:47Sentencing date, a hearing unexpectedly adjourned following the conviction of Sean Diddy Combs last
02:53week. In fact, defense attorneys and federal prosecutors initially agreed to a September 22nd
02:58sentencing date for Combs. This is ahead of a remote hearing that was set for this afternoon.
03:03But shortly before the hearing, attorneys from both sides sent a joint letter to the judge saying
03:09that they had agreed to the original proposed sentencing date of October 3rd. Combs was acquitted
03:16of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, but convicted on two counts of prostitution-related
03:22charges. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison on those counts. And our ABC News chief
03:28investigative correspondent, Erin Katursky, has the latest.
03:32Hey, Deshaun Combs is going to be sentenced this fall after he was convicted of two counts of
03:36prostitution-related charges that together carry a maximum prison term of up to 20 years. He is
03:43unlikely to get that much, but federal prosecutors are expected to ask for at least five years.
03:48Combs will receive credit for time served, which will subtract about a year from the ultimate sentence.
03:53His acquittal on sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges took away the possibility of
03:58life in prison for Combs, who is preparing to ask for leniency. The defense has already argued Combs
04:04has taken steps to address what the judge called a propensity for violence, as seen on 2016 hotel
04:09security camera footage. And his attorney said Combs began a batterer's program in New York prior to
04:14his arrest. The defense has also argued Combs did not make money from prostitution, but rather
04:20was the primary client of the male escorts he was convicted of transporting. His attorneys were
04:27prepared to ask for an expedited sentencing. They backed off that at the last minute. And so the
04:33judge has set Sean Combs' sentencing for October 3rd. Kena? Interesting. All right, Erin Katursky,
04:39what has happened to Combs' business empire? Before Combs was arrested and charged, his major
04:51business ventures had collapsed. He stepped down and later fully divested from Revolt TV,
04:56which was founded in 2013. The network offered a mix of programming focused on hip-hop culture,
05:03R&B music, social justice, and documentaries. He also reportedly lost a Hulu reality series deal
05:10and saw his once-iconic fashion brand Sean John vanish from Macy's shelves. After surveillance
05:16footage surfaced last year showing Combs physically assaulting singer Cassie, his then-girlfriend,
05:21in 2016, consequences mounted, New York City revoked his ceremonial key, Peloton pulled his music,
05:28back, Howard University rescinded his honorary degree and his charter school in Harlem cut ties.
05:34Last year, Combs settled a legal dispute with Diageo, withdrawing a lawsuit filed as part of a
05:40settlement with the London-based Spirits Giant, making the company the sole owner of Sorok and
05:44De Leon. While many of his ventures have unraveled, his music catalogue, for now, remains intact.
