00:00Two hit super Uttam TTV series, Bunyad and Mahabharat
00:08You made a mother's role
00:11That is why I lost out on a lot of work because I said
00:14How can I play mother at this age and two people who are older than me
00:18You were such a young girl, he is much older than you
00:22So you didn't have any hesitation that he is older or he is married
00:28Yes, it would be married if I was the homebreaker
00:34But I have always got along better with older people
00:37Now we are married, 5 years that before and now married so many years
00:41More than 30 years
00:42I have not heard of any affair that Mr. Sipi has had
00:45He listened to that before?
00:47I don't care
00:48Kiran, you know right from our fairy tales
00:55They are like a witch like a stepmother
00:59But I have never seen you like that
01:01So what is your relationship with these children?
01:04Because you are the stepmother
01:05They all call me by name
01:06Okay
01:07They call me Kiran
01:08I can't take names but I know two actresses
01:13Okay, it will happen
01:14But that is the past
01:15But that is the past
01:17I don't want to talk about it
01:18I would not like to
01:20We all knew about it
01:21I would not even comment on it
01:23I would not even comment on it
01:24I would not expect you to comment on it
01:26I was wondering whether that would make a difference to you
01:28Because if you are such a colourful man
01:30So were you a little apprehensive about getting me?
01:33I told you I am not that kind of person
01:35I am very secure within myself
01:37And if a man doesn't want to live with me
01:41Then I would not want to live with him
01:43It is as simple as that
01:45I am so proud to sit with someone
01:49For what?
01:58Kiran, how wonderful that we are finally meeting
02:02I know Bharti
02:03This is really stretch so long
02:04We are always saying that we will get
02:06We will get
02:08I am so glad that we will get
02:10I know
02:11You had a little accident, right?
02:13Yeah, well
02:14What to say
02:15That is also two months
02:16Two months
02:17Really?
02:18It is okay
02:19Your shoulder fracture
02:21Now there are bruises
02:23Yes, yes, yes
02:24They are there
02:25That is why I am wearing this full sleeved shirt
02:28To hide the bruises
02:30To hide the bruises
02:31Okay
02:32Kiran, tell me something basic
02:35How do you spell your name?
02:37Because I have seen K-I-R-O-N
02:40J-U-N-E-J
02:42J-O-N
02:43What is the correct spelling?
02:44Oh, it has been a struggle my whole life
02:46Because you know even when they take an interview for instance
02:49I gave an interview for a channel
02:51And they sent me the creative
02:53That this is what we are putting on the reels
02:55And I said but
02:56This is not right
02:57I am not O
02:58And I am not U
03:00I am A-K-I-R-A-N
03:02And I am J-O-N-E-J
03:03Which is very unusual
03:04Unusual
03:05I don't know why my father chose to do it
03:07But I have struggled with my whole life
03:08And they said but
03:10They said but
03:11This is on Instagram
03:12This is on the internet
03:13This is on the internet
03:14So we have picked up from there
03:16So you know
03:17They said now it's too late
03:18So it actually went like that
03:19Oh, so actually you are K-I-R-A-N
03:22J-O-N-E-J-A
03:23J-O-N-E-J-A
03:24J-O-N-E-J-A
03:25J-O-N-E-J-A
03:26J-O-N-E-J-A
03:27It's not supposed to be J-O-N-E-J-A
03:28It's J-O-N-E-J-A
03:29J-O-N-E-J-A
03:29I got it
03:31J-O-N-E-J-A
03:33I hope the others got it
03:34J-O-N-E-J-A
03:35I know
03:36J-O-N-E-J-A
03:37deine name J-O-N-E-J-A
03:39J-O-N-E-J-A
03:41J-O-N-E-J-A
03:44J-O-N-E-J-A
03:45J-O-N-E-J-A
03:46I have got into so much trouble
03:48Finally I have to go to my passport office
03:50And get my name changed to
03:52J-O-N-E-J-A
03:53J-O-N-E-J-A
03:54J-O-N-E-J-A
03:56J-O-N-E-J-A
03:58invited for a for a event out of India by the embassy and they sent my visa like
04:05two days before you know they sent a letter and all because it's from the
04:08embassy right and they spelt my name wrong oh they they wrote Sipi and I was
04:15Joneja on my passport and because I was married and my husband's name is Sipi
04:19they wrote Sipi and I was like luckily because it was the embassy they were
04:25able to rectify it and send me another mail immediately and I was able to go
04:29so that's when I realized better change it in my passport so that I never get
04:34stuck in my life again and I use both to my convenience
04:43but when I'm doing acting or doing a role I use Joneja because that's how
04:50everybody knows right right I don't have a secretary I'm not in the new
04:59system I'm not in the casting list so if something comes to me like friends
05:06people who know me will call me and say oh we've got a role for you I do it I'll
05:10be very happy to work I love my work as an actor but I just I don't know I got so
05:19busy with so many things in life that somehow kahi na kahi wo you know
05:25one of the things are bought busy ho gai hai last ek saal se is 50 years of Shole na
05:32that's true yeah because yeh saal 2025 Shole ki 50th year hai na yeh august mein it'll be 50 years
05:4150 years so what are you doing for that a lot of plans a lot of things are in the
05:47thing but we really don't want to talk about them till they are in the move and
05:50also honestly not even giving interviews and all right now because you know today you
05:57can't stretch things see if you're doing it in august and we may not be able to do
06:01it in august so we may do it in september october we don't know so if I start talking we all
06:06start talking about it abhi se it's too long you know so we'll closer to the time we will be
06:13working doing a lot of things together okay how did you meet Shole director Ramesh Suthi
06:21a pali meeting kab hui or kaise hui okay bunyad um so I was really veeravalli but I was still
06:31modeling at that time actually more actively and television had just started so um I got a call
06:39from brachri uh saying that we've got a one episode kind of a thing and we'd like you to come it was a
06:46serial called paying guest right and every episode would have a new paying guest and a story
06:52around that paying guest and I did it and enjoy doing it because I did act from childhood I did
06:58some plays in college and so it was I mean you live in Delhi so you came to Mumbai for that
07:04uh no I was modeling for that and I was living in Mumbai then because I was one of the top models at
07:10that time already and I'd done work for already three four years before television came up and then I
07:16started working in television maybe even a little longer maybe five years and um so I did it and I
07:22enjoyed it and then uh there was a serial called Bhajanab uh which was Shekhar Suman's first yes
07:29not television and mine also yes it was a big hit but unfortunately we didn't go beyond 26
07:35kuki uh it was very urduish you know it was shudd urdu because laknaoika background
07:41and I actually got it because they were looking for a girl jiski zabaan saf ho okay okay and me
07:49being from the north being Delhi I could say that so they were looking for someone who could talk like
07:57that and that's how I got auditioned from for it okay for Bhajanab and that's how I got the serial
08:04okay okay so after Bhajanab Amit Khanna who was working with Ramesh Jion Bunyad behind the scenes
08:10um they were looking for this character they had actually started shooting they'd taken another
08:17actor for this oh and they had shot with her yes yes they had shot two three episodes with her
08:25no name you don't know what is the point what is the point so um um um um uh they were shooting one
08:32actor and then Samha and Rameer was not happy with it okay so they said that they took another
08:44movie and I'm thinking of redoing this so by the time I met him they were in their sixth or seventh
08:52episode. And this character
08:54starts in third. So
08:55this character's scenes, they were
08:58shooting. And so there was a lot of pressure
09:00on them to decide
09:02who to shoot it with.
09:05So
09:06I was in Delhi
09:09and I came back from Delhi. My nephew was born,
09:12came from Delhi and at the airport I had
09:13this gentleman who was looking after my work
09:16at that stage.
09:17He said, let's go, let's go.
09:20We have to go to the film city.
09:21I'm like, airport's a film city. And it was like
09:235, 5.30 in the evening. And I'm saying,
09:25why am I going so late now?
09:27You didn't know why you came here.
09:28No, no. That time phones were a problem.
09:31Mobiles were a little bit of a problem.
09:33So my secretary had been told
09:36we want to see her.
09:38So he came to the airport to receive me.
09:40And at the airport he said, let's go.
09:42So my car was waiting
09:44and I'm going to film city.
09:47Where shooting was going?
09:48Where shooting was going.
09:49And at the airport he was saying,
09:50I'm going to shoot Ramesh Sipi Ji
09:52and I'm going to film in Shole style.
09:55I mean, 15-20 days
09:57the car was going on.
09:59When the partition happened
10:00and how they were coming
10:02and the shooting was going on.
10:04And I'm thinking,
10:05why do we have to shoot in 15 days?
10:07I was such a nervous.
10:09In the film industry,
10:10I didn't understand
10:11why do we have to shoot in 15 days?
10:13And what really great creative people do,
10:16I had no clue.
10:17I'm not from the film industry.
10:19My father was a doctor.
10:21I'm from Delhi.
10:22I had no guidance here.
10:25Nobody to tell me,
10:26this is right or not.
10:27I made many mistakes
10:28because of that.
10:29Because I took the decisions
10:31and those decisions
10:32were based on my thinking.
10:34So anyway, we went there
10:36and Ramesh Sipi Ji was shooting
10:37at that time
10:38with Anita Kavar
10:41and Alok and Anita Kavar
10:43and outdoor, open town.
10:46And there was a manji.
10:49So I said,
10:50sit here.
10:50So I put it in the manji.
10:51And I was wearing
10:52this Western dress,
10:53white colored.
10:54Because I didn't have any idea
10:55that I were going to go there.
10:58So I normally
10:58Western clothes I wear.
11:00So I'm wearing it.
11:01I went to the manji
11:03and I was watching the scene.
11:05And when there was a small break
11:07they were doing the relighting
11:08for whatever.
11:09So Ramesh Ji came
11:10and sat on the chair.
11:11Director wrote a chair.
11:13He took it and Ramesh Ji sat.
11:15And so he questioned me a little.
11:18You knew that Ramesh Sipi is.
11:21Yes, but I didn't have any idea
11:23about who is Ramesh Sipi.
11:24To be very honest with you.
11:25I mean, who is means
11:26I knew he directed films.
11:28But I never knew
11:29how big a director was.
11:31I didn't have any idea.
11:33But I'm not from the film world.
11:47So it's such a big hit.
11:49We all think it's such a big hit.
11:52You know, we don't talk like that.
11:53Yes, we talk a little bit about it.
11:56So I knew that
11:57surprisingly, my show
11:58is a very strange memory.
12:01So before I saw that,
12:02my parents
12:03used to be very curating
12:05films.
12:07Right.
12:07If you want to go to the theater,
12:08then you would ask
12:09that there are no scenes
12:11that there are no scenes
12:12that you can watch.
12:13And then we would see
12:15a few films apart.
12:18In the year,
12:18there were 4-5 films in the theater.
12:19It would go a little bit every week.
12:21So I did see Shole.
12:22But memory is not.
12:25But Shole
12:25before,
12:28my irritation
12:28one day Sunday
12:29and I wanted to sleep
12:31in the afternoon.
12:32I had a glass of glass
12:33and I had a glass of glass.
12:33I was in Delhi.
12:34I had a glass of glass.
12:35I had a glass of glass.
12:37And I said,
12:37now I'm going to sleep.
12:38And someone
12:40has recorded
12:41how many people
12:42were there.
12:43Then there was no other light.
12:44And they didn't have a glass of glass.
12:46I didn't have a glass of glass.
12:47I didn't have a glass of glass.
12:48Because they kept playing.
12:49Someday I was in the speaker.
12:50So I didn't have a glass of glass.
12:51I didn't know what was happening.
12:53But I could hear
12:55this record playing again
12:57and again and again.
12:58So this is my first introduction
13:01to Shole
13:02before I saw the film.
13:03Oh!
13:04Okay.
13:05An irritation curve.
13:06It was an irritating reaction.
13:07I was like,
13:08I have to sleep.
13:09Now you have to sleep.
13:10Why are you playing again?
13:11Because I didn't know
13:12how crazy it was.
13:13That's right.
13:14You know,
13:15because we didn't come from that background.
13:16That's right.
13:17So...
13:18When you met Ramesh Ji
13:20and you wanted to ask some questions
13:22what happened?
13:23What happened?
13:24What happened?
13:25Yes.
13:26So they asked some questions
13:27and then asked me
13:28if there are dates available?
13:30I said,
13:31I am modeling.
13:32There are dates available.
13:33We are not booked for...
13:34Correct.
13:35So we have time to time
13:37Yes, I can do it.
13:38The next thing he asked me
13:40would you...
13:41How old are you?
13:42I was like,
13:43why does he want to know?
13:44So I said,
13:45as old as I look.
13:46You know,
13:47I did not answer that question.
13:48Okay.
13:49So then he said,
13:50no.
13:51I am asking,
13:52would you be comfortable playing
13:53from young to old?
13:54Yes.
13:55Yes.
13:56And I am so excited in my mind
13:57that I am so excited
13:58that I will get the chance of
13:59showing talent to me.
14:00Correct.
14:01Young to old.
14:02Wow.
14:03Beautiful.
14:04I did not think that
14:05there are perceptions in India
14:07in the film line.
14:08If you play one time,
14:09then you start to have
14:10old roles.
14:11Yes.
14:12And I started to have
14:13bad luck in the world
14:14and my mother
14:15both played.
14:16Yes.
14:17But the last memory
14:18then keeps old.
14:20That's right.
14:21Because what you see
14:22at the end,
14:23you see the person as old.
14:24Right.
14:25So,
14:26in the end,
14:27I played the role of
14:29the big heroes
14:30of the mother.
14:31I mean,
14:33let's just go back a little.
14:34In the age,
14:35two hit,
14:37one of the super
14:38Uttam
14:39TV serials
14:40after the age of
14:41Bunyad
14:42and Mahabharat
14:43you played the mother's role.
14:45Mother's role.
14:46That is why I lost out
14:47on a lot of work
14:48because I said,
14:49how can I play mother
14:50at this age?
14:51And two people
14:52who are older than me.
14:53Correct.
14:54They are more than 10,
14:5512,
14:5615 years old
14:57and I will play mother
14:59as a mother.
15:00But they have seen me
15:01as a mother.
15:02So,
15:03as far as cinema is concerned.
15:06As far as cinema is concerned.
15:09But,
15:10shall we go back to
15:12when you met Ramiya Ji?
15:14Okay.
15:15What was it like?
15:16Did the sparks
15:18that sparks
15:19started?
15:20No,
15:21no.
15:22It happens.
15:23It happens.
15:24It happens.
15:25It happens.
15:26No.
15:27Like I told you,
15:28I didn't even know
15:29how big he was.
15:30It was like,
15:31no,
15:32no.
15:33no.
15:34Later,
15:35when I started working
15:36with them,
15:37and when I saw
15:38people's behaviour
15:39on their side,
15:40and how many people
15:42came to their feet
15:43and how they were
15:44scared.
15:45You know?
15:46So,
15:47then I understood
15:48how big this man
15:49was in the industry.
15:50Right.
15:51Then I knew
15:52that.
15:53So,
15:54he said,
15:55okay.
15:56I said,
15:57yes, yes, of course,
15:58I will do it.
15:59So, he said, okay.
16:00And this was probably
16:01a Wednesday or a Thursday.
16:03He said,
16:04Friday,
16:05my
16:06Ratti,
16:07a
16:08dress designer
16:09assistant,
16:10he said,
16:11she will take
16:12your measurements.
16:13Saturday,
16:14you will take
16:16the trial
16:17and Monday morning
16:18I want you on the sets.
16:19So,
16:20it literally happened
16:21between like
16:22three days later
16:23I was actually
16:24shooting for Bunyan.
16:25Bunyan.
16:26Yeah.
16:27That's how it happened.
16:28Okay.
16:29And then,
16:30you know,
16:31people have told you
16:32that now
16:33I've got a break
16:34with Ramesh Sipi.
16:35Yes, I told you,
16:36but I felt more
16:37than that.
16:38Because when you work,
16:39you see
16:40how the rest of the actors
16:41are behaving,
16:42how they react
16:44and I could see
16:45the immense respect
16:46that was in the
16:47people's minds
16:48and the way
16:49they would listen
16:50to Rameji
16:51so intensely.
16:52Right.
16:53So, I am
16:54a very observant person.
16:55So, I have noticed
16:56that I have done
16:57a lot of work
16:58before.
16:59I have done a lot
17:00of television
17:01but I didn't see
17:02any director
17:03giving so much respect.
17:06So, I knew
17:07that he was
17:08somebody who was
17:09not just a big director
17:10but his respect
17:12was in the industry.
17:13He was on a pedestal.
17:16Yes, he was on a pedestal.
17:17Always was.
17:18Now he did.
17:19Yes, he did.
17:20Because I think
17:21he was very graceful.
17:22I have never been
17:23in life.
17:24He has never misbehaved.
17:25He has never done
17:26anything out of line.
17:27He has never said
17:28anything about anyone.
17:29So, you know
17:30there is a certain
17:31personality
17:32that attracts
17:34that respect.
17:35Correct.
17:36So, you got attracted to each other?
17:42I think
17:43work
17:44happens sometimes.
17:45Because we were
17:46listening to each other.
17:47Yes.
17:48the funny part is
17:49that
17:50the journalist
17:51knew
17:52before us.
17:53I didn't know
17:55that.
17:56I didn't know
17:57that.
17:58But I read
17:59a little article
18:00saying something
18:02happening
18:03brewing between
18:04nothing was brewing
18:05at that time.
18:06Believe me.
18:07Nothing was brewing.
18:08But the press
18:09doesn't know
18:10when we first
18:11know
18:12what to do
18:13in life.
18:14So, I read this article
18:15and I just laughed at him
18:16and said, how silly.
18:17You know.
18:18But yes.
18:19Happened during work.
18:20Yeah.
18:21And by then
18:22he was already single.
18:23He was already
18:24divorced.
18:25No.
18:26No.
18:27But there was
18:28an understanding
18:30and there was
18:31not a separation
18:33because
18:34Rohan was very young
18:35and
18:36his final year
18:38and they did not
18:39want to disrupt
18:40his thing.
18:41But life
18:42doesn't happen
18:43but they did
18:44finally separate
18:45even before
18:46he gave his exams.
18:47But
18:48that time
18:49there was an effort
18:50being made
18:51that
18:52let him
18:54give his exams
18:55and then
18:56we will do
18:57whatever we need
18:58to do.
18:59So, that is what it was.
19:00Okay.
19:01What was it like
19:02working in a
19:03big, big
19:04mega
19:05serial-like
19:06bunyad?
19:07I think
19:08it was
19:09like
19:10a school
19:11for me.
19:12I learned a lot
19:13of bunyad
19:14and I
19:15learned angles.
19:16I was not an actor.
19:17I didn't have any
19:18training.
19:19I didn't have any
19:20training.
19:21I didn't have any
19:22classes.
19:23I didn't have any
19:24classes.
19:25I think I had three
19:26classes.
19:27And I gave up.
19:28I didn't have any
19:29classes.
19:30I didn't have any
19:31classes.
19:32So, it was like a
19:33school.
19:34I learned a lot
19:35during bunyad
19:36and I learned
19:37angles.
19:38some scene
19:39or something.
19:40Tell me
19:41something.
19:42So, one scene
19:43was like
19:44that
19:45this is much later
19:46though.
19:47But I never forget
19:48this scene
19:49because I was already
19:50in that
19:51house dress
19:52and all.
19:53And
19:54I am looking
19:56through
19:57bars of a window.
19:59And
20:00I cry.
20:01And that tear
20:02is falling
20:03like a camera
20:04is going
20:05on the trolley.
20:06And when it crosses me
20:08that bar
20:09should get
20:10tears.
20:11Okay?
20:12Okay.
20:13It is very difficult
20:14because you add glycerine
20:15in the eye.
20:16And to manipulate
20:17when the eyes
20:18will fall.
20:19It's very difficult.
20:20And
20:21my perfect eyes
20:23should be
20:24under it.
20:25So,
20:26there was
20:27a lot of coordination
20:28involved.
20:29In one shot.
20:30In one shot.
20:31I think
20:32that shot
20:33will be
20:34re-takes
20:35by the end of it
20:36my nose was red.
20:37I was
20:3816 times
20:39glistening
20:40in the eye.
20:41And
20:42it was never
20:43bad.
20:44It was never
20:45bad.
20:46It was never
20:47bad.
20:48It was never
20:49bad.
20:50But
20:51I learnt
20:52patience.
20:53I learnt
20:54that
20:55that
20:56you should
20:57irritate
20:58on the set.
21:00You should
21:01take it seriously.
21:02Because at the end
21:03of the day
21:04the screen
21:05is true.
21:07it's true.
21:08So,
21:09no one knows
21:10that you have
21:1116 takes
21:12for the short.
21:13In this case
21:14there were many
21:15problems.
21:16But
21:17sometimes
21:18you don't give
21:19your best.
21:20And
21:21if the director
21:22is insistent on
21:23Rameji
21:24perfectionist
21:25whatever he needs
21:26he needs
21:2710 times
21:285 times
21:2925 times
21:30he doesn't care.
21:31But he needs it.
21:32So, I also learnt
21:33this.
21:34You have to
21:35satisfy the director.
21:36Okay.
21:37His vision
21:38that he is
21:39seeing
21:40you have to
21:42match his
21:43expectations.
21:44You cannot
21:45say
21:46that
21:47you know
21:48I
21:49learned a lot of things.
21:53Okay.
21:54Kiran,
21:55the world
21:56and the mother
21:57were almost
21:58together.
21:59How did you manage
22:00this?
22:01This is a strange
22:02story.
22:03So,
22:04Chopra
22:05knew me
22:06and met him
22:07a few times.
22:08So,
22:09he had to call me
22:10personally.
22:11He told me
22:12that
22:13you have a great role
22:14for me.
22:15He offered me
22:17not Ganga.
22:19No.
22:20Gandhari.
22:21To begin.
22:22So,
22:23this is a story.
22:24So,
22:25when he said
22:26to me,
22:27Chopra Ji,
22:28I am shooting
22:29every day.
22:30So,
22:31I am shooting
22:32every day.
22:33So,
22:34I need to be there.
22:35So,
22:36I said,
22:37yes,
22:38this is a problem.
22:39Okay,
22:40let me think.
22:41They called me
22:42after 15 days
22:43and he said,
22:44I have got the
22:45perfect role for you.
22:46So,
22:47you will shoot
22:48three,
22:49four episodes
22:50and you will shoot.
22:51After that,
22:52you will go.
22:53So,
22:54I was very excited.
22:55I said,
22:56okay,
22:57I will do this.
22:58Now,
22:59my role in the world
23:00became very popular.
23:01Correct.
23:02And,
23:03they loved Ganga.
23:04Ganga.
23:05So,
23:06when Ganga
23:07liked it,
23:08I may not have gone into the old.
23:11If you see,
23:12I went away.
23:13And,
23:14if you see,
23:15I went away.
23:16And,
23:17then,
23:18I went away.
23:19And,
23:20then,
23:21I went away.
23:22And,
23:23then,
23:24I came back as old.
23:25So,
23:26Chopra Ji said,
23:27I went away.
23:28And,
23:29I went away.
23:30And,
23:31I went away.
23:32and,
23:33I went away.
23:34I went away.
23:35So,
23:36I came back.
23:38And,
23:39we want to bring you back.
23:40So,
23:41I said,
23:42I went away.
23:43I said,
23:44you come from heaven every time.
23:46And,
23:47you talk to him.
23:48So,
23:49I don't want to be old.
23:51I said,
23:52I don't want to be old.
23:53I said,
23:54but I don't want to play old.
23:55I mean,
23:56here,
23:57I will do it.
23:58I literally said,
23:59I don't want to do it.
24:00So why would you say, you are Ganga, you will see exactly the same thing.
24:05Ganga will remain Ganga.
24:06Ganga will remain Ganga.
24:08So I said, okay, I will do it.
24:10First day when I went, I saw Bhishpapitama, Dadi and everything.
24:14I was like, oh God, I am looking the same, but my son is now.
24:19So what's the age of son's age?
24:21But now I have a commitment, I have to do it, then I have to do it.
24:25So I did it and I did it to my best.
24:28Right. And don't know him, they were super hit serials.
24:32Don't know.
24:33Actually, it was all your serials, because you did Vajana.
24:36That was a very good one.
24:38And then you did, you know, you did a lot.
24:42I did a lot, I did a lot.
24:43Most of your things were very popular.
24:46Popular, yeah.
24:47But that was also what is your life?
24:49Yes, that was before, in fact.
24:51Before.
24:52So even that was a hit.
24:53That was a hit.
24:54Paying guest was also a hit.
24:55But that was my entry very late.
24:57So already serial was running.
24:59It was running.
25:00And then they were adding characters.
25:02Because it was running.
25:03And I knew Obi Oberoi who was doing, they were producing it also.
25:08And he was not directing.
25:09Raman Kumar was directing.
25:11Right.
25:12He was producing it.
25:13But I had done ads with him.
25:15Okay.
25:16So that is how he knew me.
25:17And when this character came in Vajana, he said, Abhidam.
25:20Yeah.
25:21Yeah.
25:22Yeah.
25:23He said, Kiran will be right for it.
25:24And that's how I got it.
25:25That's how you got it.
25:26That's how I got it.
25:27But you will see Vajana, Vajana, Vajana, Bunyad, Maa Bharat.
25:31They're all super hit series.
25:33Yeah.
25:34Super hit series.
25:35Super hits.
25:36And then what did you do?
25:37You went and got married.
25:38Then just that happened.
25:39Before marriage, I told you that after Munyad, I was not happy with it.
25:48Obviously, I didn't want to play mother at such a young age.
25:51So, and then Ramay Ji, even before marriage, everyone knew that this is going to be a marriage.
26:00So, first, people would have to go back.
26:04Coming back to Ramesh Ji, you were such a young girl.
26:11He's much older than you.
26:13So, did you not have any hesitation?
26:16He's older.
26:17I think people might.
26:18Or he's married.
26:19He's married if I was the homebreaker.
26:25But I already knew what the situation was.
26:28So, it's not like I broke a home.
26:30So, I was okay with that.
26:32That was not my worry.
26:33But I've always got along better with older people.
26:36Somehow.
26:37Okay.
26:38Men or women.
26:39I don't know.
26:40Maybe I was too mature for my age.
26:41What was it?
26:42Young, at my age, boys were not mentally tuning in.
26:48Tuning in.
26:49Okay, okay.
26:50So, yes, he was, I mean, he was a little much older.
26:54But I didn't face it.
26:56I didn't face it.
26:57No.
26:58I didn't feel easy.
26:59Okay.
27:00And what is it about Ramesh Ji that really attracted you ultimately?
27:03His personality.
27:05He's a very lovable, very likable person.
27:09Any woman would be attracted to me.
27:11So, I saw a man who was so big, so huge.
27:16And this was commendable because, you know,
27:22He was a spot boy.
27:24He was a spot boy.
27:26I told Ramesh ji,
27:28or misbehave,
27:30or give respect to him.
27:32And this was commendable.
27:34Because, you know,
27:36people change with success.
27:38They change a lot.
27:40If one film hits,
27:42there are so many airs.
27:44Like, we have arrived,
27:46and here was a man who had given hit after hit.
27:48You know?
27:50He was very humble.
27:52And he was so polite,
27:54so proper.
27:56You know, ladies are standing.
27:58He was very friendly.
28:00I liked him as a human being.
28:02You got attracted to him.
28:04I got attracted to the personality,
28:06to the person he was.
28:08So, did you
28:10say the first thing,
28:12or did he approach you,
28:14or was it mutual?
28:16I don't know. It just happened.
28:18I don't have any clear memory.
28:20How did it happen?
28:22Because you can't time it.
28:24But tell me,
28:26your parents are not from this industry.
28:28You have no relationship with the film industry.
28:30So, how did they take it?
28:32Because they all wrote about it.
28:34But they knew,
28:36but they knew that marriage was on the card.
28:40They knew that.
28:42For a while,
28:44they didn't talk about it.
28:46Because they didn't know how to talk about it.
28:48But finally,
28:50he went and he met them,
28:52and proposed marriage to me.
28:54and with my parents' consent,
28:56and with my parents' consent,
28:58that I want to.
29:00Then they decided.
29:02I think it was difficult for them,
29:04but they never said that.
29:06They were good parents.
29:08And tell me,
29:10what's it like to be married to a man older than you?
29:14Nothing.
29:16There's nothing you'd like to tell any girl.
29:20No.
29:21See, like I said,
29:22it depends on what your personality is.
29:26If you are not mature enough,
29:29then marrying a mature person could be a problem.
29:32Intelligence level and thinking level
29:35will not match.
29:37But luckily for me,
29:38he and I are on the same page for everything.
29:41And I come from a family where
29:43they had a lot of values.
29:45And I find Rameji has a lot of values.
29:47Definitely.
29:48So for me,
29:49that transition was absolutely not.
29:50I mean,
29:51it was a comfort zone for me.
29:53We also know him,
29:54and we know him.
29:55And he has remained consistent.
29:58Consistent.
29:59Consistent gentleman.
30:00Absolutely.
30:01Yeah.
30:02Did your life change
30:04after you became Mrs. Ramesh Satti?
30:07Of course.
30:08Very change.
30:09Absolutely change.
30:10You know,
30:14for me,
30:15marriage was,
30:17I am a little different.
30:20I am an aquarium.
30:21So,
30:22the aquariums are very ahead.
30:25So, for me,
30:26marriage is just a paper.
30:28Okay.
30:29Commitment is important.
30:31So,
30:32for me,
30:333-4 years,
30:34we were dating.
30:35And,
30:36it's a long period.
30:38So,
30:39you came from home.
30:40You came from home.
30:41You came from home.
30:42You came from home.
30:43And,
30:44my friends,
30:45I told my friends,
30:46what are you doing?
30:48What are you doing?
30:49What are you doing?
30:50What are you doing?
30:51We believe you.
30:52There are such attractive,
30:53lovely other girls also.
30:54Men tired.
30:55You know,
30:56tired.
30:57Now,
30:58you are 3-4 years old.
30:59What are you doing?
31:00And,
31:01I was like,
31:02hey,
31:03if we want to leave,
31:04we better leave now.
31:05Why do we need everything after marriage?
31:07No.
31:08It's okay.
31:09I am very secure.
31:10If it happens,
31:11if it happens in life,
31:12it will happen.
31:13And,
31:14if it happens,
31:15then,
31:16I don't need it.
31:17It has to be on mutual terms.
31:18Yeah.
31:19He should want to be with me,
31:20and I want to be with him.
31:22So,
31:23that relationship works.
31:24If one party is interested in other women,
31:27then,
31:28then,
31:29then,
31:30there is no difference.
31:31And,
31:32touch wood,
31:33now we are married,
31:345 years that before,
31:35and now married,
31:36so many years.
31:37More than 30 years.
31:38I have not heard of any affair
31:40that Mr. Sippy has had.
31:41I don't care.
31:43But,
31:44see,
31:45I have to tell you.
31:46I have to tell you.
31:47I have to tell you.
31:48I have to tell you.
31:49Okay.
31:50But,
31:51I know this much.
31:52But,
31:53I know this much,
31:54that after meeting me,
31:55I don't know of any,
31:56any affair,
31:57till today.
31:58Or,
31:59anything,
32:00anything,
32:01I have to tell you.
32:02But,
32:03I don't know that.
32:04But,
32:05that is the past.
32:07But,
32:08that is the past.
32:09I don't want to talk about it.
32:11I would not like to.
32:12You all knew about it.
32:13I would not even comment on it.
32:15I don't know.
32:16I don't expect you to comment on it.
32:17I was wondering whether that would make a difference to you,
32:19that,
32:20he is such a colourful man,
32:21so,
32:22were you a little apprehensive about getting...
32:24I told you,
32:25I am not that kind of person.
32:27I am very secure within myself.
32:29And,
32:32if,
32:33a man would not live with me,
32:34then,
32:35I would not live with him.
32:37It's as simple as that.
32:38Yeah.
32:39Yeah.
32:40If,
32:41a man would not live with someone,
32:42for what?
32:43Correct.
32:44I don't believe in that.
32:45And,
32:46no regrets.
32:47No regrets at all.
32:48Not at all.
32:49That's right.
32:50And,
32:51I have seen the two of you.
32:52Oh,
32:53it's been wonderful.
32:54It's been wonderful.
32:55I don't know,
32:56how will life happen,
32:57I don't know.
32:58To be honest.
32:59Kiran,
33:00you know,
33:01our,
33:02right from our fairy tales,
33:05in our lives,
33:06they make a witch like a stepmother.
33:10But,
33:11I have never seen you like that.
33:12So,
33:13what is your relationship with his children?
33:15Because you are the stepmother.
33:16They all call me by name.
33:17Okay.
33:18They call me Kiran.
33:19Okay.
33:20Nobody calls me anything else.
33:21Okay.
33:22So, Ronan,
33:23and Sheena,
33:24everybody.
33:25All three children.
33:26Sona also.
33:27It's a wonderful relationship.
33:29I go to office.
33:30Rohan comes to office all the time.
33:31We work together.
33:32Hmm.
33:33And,
33:34when Sheena's here,
33:35I meet her.
33:36We went and stayed with Sona.
33:38Hmm.
33:39I think,
33:40if you know your boundaries,
33:42then the relationship is not sour.
33:44Okay.
33:45You need to know,
33:46that this is,
33:47I can say this,
33:48or I can't say this.
33:49This is not my area.
33:50I don't want to go here.
33:51Correct.
33:52If you know your boundaries,
33:53then the relationship is not bad.
33:55I will not go into that area,
33:57where there is no need for my comments.
34:00Right.
34:01I will only comment on something,
34:02where I think,
34:03yes,
34:04there is some value in this thing.
34:06Right.
34:07Hmm.
34:08I don't know.
34:09It's been great.
34:10I've never had a fight with any of them.
34:12Never had any argument.
34:13Yeah.
34:14Never had anything like that.
34:15Events, occasions,
34:17we spend it together.
34:18Even the next wife,
34:19I've never heard you say anything against this wife.
34:21I don't have any problems.
34:22Yeah.
34:23That's what I have noticed.
34:24Hmm.
34:25And so I just thought that,
34:26you know,
34:27we're breaking the myth of the stepmother,
34:28really.
34:29Ah,
34:30but age-wise also,
34:31I'm somewhere in between.
34:32So it's not like the kids are really kids for me.
34:35Yeah.
34:36You know?
34:37That's right.
34:38So,
34:39that also makes a difference.
34:40I've insisted that you've taken a mother's place and said,
34:42now I'm beyond your mother.
34:43That's nothing.
34:44I don't want to be their mother.
34:46They have a mother.
34:47They have their mother.
34:48That's true.
34:49That's true.
34:50Did your career change after marrying Ramesh Ji?
34:54And after being involved with him?
34:55It wasn't before.
34:56Like I told you,
34:57I mean,
34:58I mean,
34:59I knew that I was going to get married before 2-3 years.
35:02So,
35:03it's not like,
35:04my career was taking off very much.
35:06And actually,
35:07I also took a back seat.
35:09I mean,
35:10my priorities were right.
35:12That the marriage is important to me.
35:14Everything else,
35:15or my husband is important to me.
35:17Everything else takes second place.
35:19So,
35:20I didn't give my career first place in life.
35:23It's always been the second place in my life.
35:26So,
35:27whatever came to me,
35:28came to me,
35:29came to me,
35:30came to me,
35:31came to me without disrupting my personal life.
35:36So,
35:37there was a lot of work in that time,
35:40which involved,
35:41like,
35:42serials,
35:43long shootings,
35:441-2 years,
35:45commitment.
35:46And there were serials,
35:47which were being shot out of Bombay,
35:49which meant,
35:50every month,
35:51every month,
35:52it was not acceptable to me.
35:54So,
35:55I turned down work very often at that time.
35:57So,
35:58I turned down work very often at that time.
36:00I thought,
36:01no,
36:02I can't do so long.
36:03Films,
36:04I'm okay with,
36:05because it's one-time commitment.
36:06For instance,
36:07today,
36:08OTT would be the right platform for me.
36:10Yes.
36:11Because,
36:12it is independent.
36:13And,
36:14you have to do it in the middle,
36:15and then,
36:16it will end up.
36:17Then,
36:18when the next season comes,
36:19you will shoot.
36:20You will get long gaps in the middle.
36:22Because,
36:23I'm not doing television for many years.
36:26Because,
36:27now,
36:28it's time for daily soaps.
36:29So,
36:30whenever they call me,
36:31I always get calls.
36:32No one doesn't go away,
36:33I don't get calls for television.
36:35But,
36:36it is always that,
36:37I need 20 days.
36:39I can't give 20 days,
36:41because,
36:42their shooting is long.
36:43For a TV series,
36:44you shoot,
36:45at 9am to 10am.
36:47Then,
36:48you will reach 11am,
36:4911am.
36:50Then,
36:51what is your life?
36:54Life.
36:55So,
36:56you like your life as Mrs. Ramesh.
36:57I like it.
36:58I want to spend time with her.
36:59You want quality time with her.
37:00I need quality time.
37:01I will love to work,
37:03and I love my work,
37:04and I'm good at my work.
37:06But,
37:07priority is for family.
37:09I mean,
37:10my personal life.
37:12That's right.
37:13And,
37:14how is Ramesh ji about your work?
37:16I mean,
37:17was he always okay?
37:18He's cool.
37:19I met him,
37:20I mean,
37:21I met him on work.
37:22But,
37:23people say,
37:24mention after marriage.
37:25I think it was a thing,
37:26we sorted out before marriage only.
37:27That,
37:28I will continue working.
37:29I told him,
37:30that,
37:31I am not,
37:32my personality,
37:33that,
37:34I will not be happy.
37:36I will not be happy.
37:37And,
37:38my thing is,
37:39that,
37:40if you are not happy in life,
37:41you cannot give others.
37:43So,
37:44I need to be me.
37:45If I am happy,
37:47I will expand it onto you,
37:49pass it onto you.
37:50If I am happy,
37:51then,
37:52how will I be happy?
37:53Correct.
37:54So,
37:55I am very clear about that.
37:56But,
37:57that,
37:58I have reduced my work.
37:59But,
38:00it was my choice.
38:01Right.
38:02Yeah.
38:03It was not his choice.
38:04I mean,
38:05I never ever overstepped on anything in my life.
38:08that,
38:09that,
38:10that,
38:11I have set boundaries for myself.
38:13Kiran,
38:14are you also very aware,
38:15that,
38:16I am Mrs. Ramesh Suthi,
38:17and I am Kiran.
38:18So,
38:19I will not do such roles,
38:20by saying,
38:21anything.
38:22I will not do such roles.
38:23People will not do such roles.
38:24People will not do such roles,
38:25because they know who you are.
38:26No,
38:27not because of who I am.
38:28My image on the screen,
38:31is not the same.
38:32Okay.
38:33In my personal life,
38:34I wear clothes like this,
38:35but on the screen,
38:36I have always played,
38:37a very sober roles in the screen.
38:39So,
38:40I am sure that,
38:41that,
38:42I know that it won't come out.
38:43Because,
38:44I have said,
38:45that,
38:46that,
38:47that,
38:48that,
38:49that,
38:50that,
38:51I have,
38:52that,
38:53that,
38:54that,
38:55that,
38:56that,
38:57that,
38:58that,
38:59that,
39:00that,
39:01that,
39:02that,
39:03that,
39:04that,
39:05that,
39:06that,
39:07I've been like a Punjab or a Mrs. somebody or something, or mother to somebody, etc.
39:13Whether it is Krish, or whether it is Khosla Khaghusla, whatever.
39:18Do you remember any role?
39:23Any role that you would really say, I'm so happy with it.
39:27But I'm happy with all the roles I did.
39:29I'm sure.
39:30No, but what I chose, I chose what I liked.
39:34And I'll say one thing, Bharati, I've never seen the length of the role.
39:39There are only five scenes.
39:42Okay?
39:43I just feel the pulse of the role.
39:47For instance, when I was a Khosla Khosla director,
39:51it was his first film.
39:53Jai Deep was the first film as a writer.
39:56Dibhakar Banerjee's first film.
39:59Jai Deep as a writer, first film.
40:01And he called me and he came home to narrate the role to me.
40:05And the role was so big.
40:06He told me, ma'am, you will be remembered.
40:08The role is small, but it is.
40:10I heard those few scenes and I was like, yes, I'm doing it.
40:13Okay.
40:14So I have never seen the length, but maybe I have that instinct.
40:18I can feel that this role, you know, there's something in it.
40:22Okay.
40:23So…
40:24And you're not bored of playing the Punjaban?
40:27Because you are a natural choice.
40:30You and Kiran Kher.
40:32We aren't from Punjab.
40:34What are you doing?
40:35I'm not from Punjab.
40:36I'm from Delhi.
40:37But I am Punjabi.
40:38I'm from North.
40:39You know, people know that the face of Gora, the way they want.
40:42You know, it's a Punjabi face.
40:43It is.
40:44Not really, because it may be Punjabi, but every role was different.
40:49Okay.
40:50The character may be Punjabi, but the role was different.
40:54So I enjoyed it.
40:55Okay.
40:56Where are you at right now?
40:57I feel like you want to be a director.
40:59I don't know why I feel like it.
41:00I know you have made a documentary.
41:01I am making it.
41:02I am making it.
41:03I am making it.
41:04I am making it.
41:05I am making it.
41:06I am making it.
41:07I am making it.
41:08I am making it.
41:09I am making it.
41:10I am making it.
41:11This is my third, fourth documentary.
41:13I did two documentaries for Films Division.
41:17Okay.
41:18I have done it before.
41:19So I am experienced in it.
41:20I don't talk about these things.
41:22I never tom-tom.
41:23I don't put it on social media.
41:24I am doing this.
41:25I am doing that.
41:26I am doing that.
41:27I just quietly go about my work.
41:29What is important is that my work should be good.
41:31I should be happy with it.
41:32I should be released.
41:33I should be able to show.
41:35That is what is important to me.
41:37So I have never thought about these things.
41:40Yes, I would love to direct.
41:42I will definitely do something.
41:44But I would love to act also.
41:46Because you are making a documentary on Ramir Ji.
41:49You have interviewed half the industry for this.
41:51Yes.
41:52No, no.
41:53It is not so much.
41:54But yes.
41:55You are making a documentary on Ramir Ji.
41:56Yes.
41:57I have.
41:58Yes.
41:59I have.
42:00Yes.
42:01I have.
42:02So I suppose that you are making a documentary on the 50th year.
42:03Yes.
42:04Somewhere.
42:05Somewhere in that celebration.
42:06Yes.
42:07Somewhere in that celebration.
42:08Yes.
42:09Yes.
42:10Yes.
42:11So I am very active.
42:12Actually, I am very active.
42:13I sit on the story sessions.
42:16I contribute as a writer.
42:17Literally.
42:18And.
42:19Yes.
42:20Yes.
42:21Yes.
42:22Yes.
42:23Yes.
42:24Yes.
42:25Yes.
42:26Yes.
42:27Yes.
42:28Yes.
42:29Yes.
42:30Yes.
42:31Yes.
42:32Yes.
42:33Yes.
42:34Yes.
42:35No.
42:36It is not like anything will happen.
42:37It will not happen.
42:38And we do work together but in different capacities.
42:41Like I am also an admin.
42:43There are a lot of areas where we sit together and discuss things and I also handle those things.
42:48But creatively, I sit on sessions.
42:52I go and sit and listen to the sessions.
42:55And I also hear comments.
42:57that I am totally out of it.
42:59But I am not actively,
43:01I mean, project,
43:02I am not doing this.
43:04Correct.
43:05Yeah.
43:06Would you like to assist Ramesh ji?
43:10Is he going to make a picture?
43:12He's working on one or two ideas.
43:14He wants to do one film.
43:16Okay.
43:16One more.
43:18Actually, he's quite excited about OTT also.
43:20You know, Mr. Sippy.
43:21When he came to television,
43:22he had serial.
43:24So, that is a medium he's been exploring.
43:28There is a serial he has worked on.
43:31And it's quite ready.
43:3370-70% ready hai.
43:35On paper.
43:35The writing part of it.
43:38When it's ready,
43:38I think he might shoot that also.
43:40But film, yes, definitely.
43:43It's more containable.
43:44It's easier to do a couple of things.
43:47Actually, film is still not happy
43:49with the scripts that he's been getting,
43:51honestly speaking.
43:53And he is the kind of man,
43:56and if it's good for him,
43:58then he will do it.
43:59No, he will do it.
44:00Why do it?
44:01Yes, so why do it?
44:02So, as soon as he's got it,
44:03this is what I want to make.
44:05So, then he will do it.
44:06Okay.
44:08And I just wanted to ask you,
44:10after all these years of being with Ramesh Sippy,
44:13what are the films of his that you really like?
44:16You know, all his films are unique,
44:25if I look at it.
44:27When I look at it,
44:28it was so ahead of its time.
44:30Hmm.
44:31Very.
44:31And the romance is so beautiful.
44:42Some scenes of Kamal Hassan,
44:45I can't get over.
44:46I mean, I've cried literally.
44:48I can't.
44:48When they come to a couple of scenes,
44:50I have cried.
44:51Okay.
44:54Shakti.
44:55My God.
44:56Unbelievable.
44:57Yes.
44:57Yes.
44:57So, I don't know.
44:58It's very difficult to choose,
45:00if you say,
45:00which film is.
45:02I don't know.
45:03Every film,
45:03Mr. Sippy,
45:05never repeated.
45:07Yes.
45:07See,
45:08normally directors
45:09ka kya hota hai,
45:10ki agar ek hit ho gai,
45:12agar woh historical hai,
45:14to phir woh historical hi bana te rah jate hai.
45:17Because woh ek comfort zone ban jate hai,
45:19ki ye wali meri achchi chalti hai,
45:20to chalo mein ye ye bana ta hou.
45:21You know,
45:22thriller hai,
45:23to woh thriller hi bana.
45:24Aap agar Ramesh Sippy ka dekhinge,
45:26film,
45:27unka dekhinge,
45:29to you will see every film was different.
45:31Anzaz,
45:31Sikta aur Gita,
45:32alag,
45:33shole,
45:35shakti,
45:36all of them,
45:38all of them,
45:39aap tekhi,
45:40unki jo,
45:41big successful films rehi hai,
45:43wo ap sari dekhiye.
45:46A couple of them were not successful also,
45:49which is fine.
45:49Koi bhi director,
45:51100% hits nahin de sakta life me.
45:54So,
45:54ho hota hai kabhi kabhi,
45:55but,
45:56making me kabhi bhi aap compromise nahin dekhi hai.
46:00You know,
46:00you will always find,
46:01the emotions are right,
46:03ar har alag film hai,
46:04lekin mahan bhi emotions right hoti hai.
46:06Correct.
46:07Jibki alag subject hai,
46:08it is challenging,
46:10to Mr. Sipi challenge runate hain.
46:13Who are your friends,
46:14who are comfortable with Ramesh ji and you?
46:17Matlab,
46:17film industry,
46:18film industry has become your family now.
46:21I am most comfortable,
46:23when I am with film industry,
46:24for the reason ki,
46:27honestly speaking,
46:29meri sab type ke friends hain,
46:31ar saare industries ke friends hain,
46:34ar mein milti ho sabko.
46:35lekin,
46:36in spite of being celebrities,
46:41loog kahein,
46:43ke yeh celebrity hai,
46:43in ki toh bari airs honi chahi hai,
46:45yeh toh,
46:46you know,
46:47honestly,
46:49I think we are very simple and basic,
46:51within the film industry.
46:53Mujhe na zyada phoomfaan yeh hawa,
46:57dousre industries mein lagti hai.
46:59Bohut hi,
47:00kaun teind,
47:02or ho na,
47:03unki ek image,
47:04yeh ki is corporate mein hain,
47:06toh humari yeh image honi chahi.
47:07Hunna apne image yeh jihate rate hain.
47:09I think film industry mein,
47:10hum nahi dhekhte kohon bada hai,
47:12kohon chhota hai,
47:13kiska background kya hai,
47:14kohon kaha se aya hai.
47:17Hum uske art ko appreciate karete hain.
47:20Toh hum jab ek party mein jate hain,
47:23humari film party mein,
47:24ya close parties mein,
47:25jah bies, pachis loog hote hain,
47:28aap diverse loogon se milte hain.
47:30Lekin ek chiz common hooti hai,
47:32interest,
47:33in creativity.
47:35Toh aapke baas bohut kuch hoota hai,
47:36share karne ke liye.
47:38Toh jab,
47:39aap film line ki party se,
47:40mein ghar jate hoon,
47:42toh mein kuch leke jate ho aapne saath.
47:44I have learnt something that day.
47:47Paakki parties mein kai baar,
47:49mein har party ke baar mein nahi kaoongi,
47:51lekin baakki socializing mein,
47:53mein bohut baar dekhte ho,
47:54itini frivolity hooti hai,
47:56frivolous hote hai loog.
47:57ki aap ghar kuch nahi leke jate hain.
48:00Aap sirif kapde,
48:01bags,
48:03you know,
48:04aasi chizah ki baat karte hain.

49:14kisi bhi rishte mein,
49:15agar respect nahi hai,
49:18to woh nahi chal sakta.
