Executive Council of Australian Jewry has full faith the anti-semitic plan can achieve a positive result

Executive Council of Australian Jewry, consulted on shaping the recommendations, has welcomed the release.

00:04We have great faith in the Special Envoy Gillian Siegel.

00:07She put an incredible amount of work into this plan.

00:09When she was first appointed to the position a year ago, she foreshadowed the creation

00:14of this national strategy, an all-encompassing plan to deal with anti-Semitism at its root

00:19and really restore our society to what it should be and what it always was, which is

00:24a just, tolerant and respectful place.

00:27The test will be, of course, in the implementation and there's a lot to be done there, both for

00:32the federal government and wider society and we look forward to working both with the Envoy

00:36and with the government and all segments of society in ensuring that this plan becomes

00:41a reality.

00:42Anthony Albanese has been criticised by some for not doing enough.

00:46What do you make of his words today and his general demeanour towards the plan?

00:50Well look, we have been critical of certain things that have been said or done or not

00:54done for a period of time, but I think today marks a new dawn, a watershed when we can move

01:00forward.

01:01And the Prime Minister spoke with great force and great conviction and great emotion about

01:05what anti-Semitism has done, what he has witnessed, how it has torn down the fabric of this great

01:11country. And sitting there and listening to him, I'm absolutely convinced that he's determined

01:16to now fight back against this and we will require his leadership. Aspects of the plan are for him

01:21and his government to implement, but other parts of it, as we've said, are for broader

01:26societies, sports and culture and universities and schools and business to work on. But we

01:31need the leadership of the federal government to say this is the way forward and we want to

01:35see it implemented.
