Raquel Laguna/ SUCOPRESS. Malachi Barton and Freya Skye star in ZOMBIES 4: Dawn of the Vampires, which premieres July 10 on Disney Channel and the next day on Disney+. In this interview, Malachi and Freya talk about their characters, Victor and Nova. In the first three ZOMBIES movies, Zed and Addison brought human and monster kind together in their hometown of Seabrook. Now, a new adventure dawns for the duo when their summer road trip takes an unexpected detour, landing them in the middle of yet another monster rivalry: Daywalkers vs. Vampires. Tensions flare when Zed and Addison find themselves acting as camp counselors between the two opposing supernatural factions. With the help of Eliza and Willa, they must convince sworn enemies Nova and Victor to try to unite their warring worlds before an even greater threat endangers them all. Actors Chandler Kinney, Sway Bhatia, Julian Lerner and Mekonnen Knife also star in the movie.

00:00Our characters, my character, his name is Victor.
00:02He's a vampire. He harnesses the power of the wind.
00:06He's a very adventurous, curious kid.
00:10He loves his vampires, but he also really would love to see what else the world has to offer.
00:18And I think he fits this rivalry that they have, or that they've been taught to have their entire lives,
00:24between the vampires and the daywalkers.
00:26Because that's kind of all he's known, but it is also not what he feels is right.
00:31He really, really believes that he has these visions of some girl that has these daylight features of where he doesn't know if it's a daywalker or not.
00:46And then he ends up finding out that this girl he's been dreaming of is a daywalker.
00:49So he kind of has to make it work and not hate them as much.
00:53But, you know, over the course of the movie, he kind of breaks out of his shell a little bit once he meets Nova.
01:00And then, yeah, the rest is history.
01:04She is a daywalker who can harness the powers of the sun.
01:07She's next in line to be the leader of Sunnyside, of all the daywalkers,
01:11because her dad is Commander Bright, who is the leader right now.
01:15The routes will be small.
01:16So I think she's just very convicted in this movie, to be honest.
01:20And I think a lot of the rivalry between the daywalkers and the vampires is something that she's questioned.
01:24I think they have no real reason that's really explored in Zombies 4 that they hate them.
01:30It's more like something that historically has happened.
01:33But I think it's more something that's been taught rather than something that people truly feel.
01:37And I think she's the only one to really question it.
01:39And I think she doesn't believe that the rivalry needs to happen.
01:45I think that's something that she feels really passionately about changing and building upon when she becomes leader.
01:51And I think that's something we kind of build upon throughout Zombies 4.
01:55I have never done a musical before.
01:58So it was definitely a first for me.
02:00I really enjoyed it.
02:02I genuinely did love it.
02:04But just getting to experiment with my voice and my getting to dance, it was just so much fun.
02:10I've always loved a challenge and I've always loved new experiences and stuff like that.
02:15I think that's something that me and my character Victor have in common.
02:18So I immediately, when I got the opportunity, I immediately jumped in and I was like, okay, let's do this.
02:23I'm going to go full out and I'm going to try and integrate the vampires into the dancing and into the music and all this type of stuff.
02:33So I had a great time and I think that it shows pretty well on screen too.
02:37So excited for everybody to see it.
02:40Zombies 4 was something different to anything I've ever done before.
02:43I feel like I'd had the most experience in the musical kind of department compared to like the dancing world and the acting.
02:52So going into it, I was trying to bring as much knowledge as I had.
02:55But it's so different getting to sing as a character and really carry the storyline through with the song.
03:02It's so different to singing a pop song and with all the choreography and everything.
03:07So it was something different.
03:08But I feel like I learned a lot through it, really conveying the emotion through your voice.
03:13Yeah, and really letting the character shine through all of the songs.
03:18Mm-hmm.
