00:30Never before has this scourge been punished with the rigor both agencies apply today.

00:35No longer playing dumb or even complicit, several military personnel and civilians have

00:40already been sentenced to 10 and 15 years in prison for this crime.

00:45The Public Prosecutor's Office, by express mandate of Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso,

00:50has received instructions to request financial penalties and the confiscation of assets from

00:55those responsible.

00:57With these measures, the Dominican government has dealt a decisive blow to the Mafia that

01:01has trafficked Haitians for years, and more.

01:05The justice system now has the responsibility to cooperate in this decisive effort, as it

01:10already has 450 files on traffickers forwarded by the Army.

01:15In its interdiction operations this year, the Army has detained 99,070 migrants and seized

01:211,343 vehicles used for their transportation.

01:25This work is complemented by the systematic and massive operations conducted by the National

01:30Directorate of Migration to repatriate Haitians in an irregular situation.

01:35With the trafficking and smuggling mafias visibly affected in their lucrative and criminal business,

01:40the reactions have not been long in coming.

01:43But it was time to put the brakes on and bring the full weight of justice down on those involved.

01:49Those soldiers and police officers who conspired and still conspire in this crime of treason

01:54against the homeland are betraying the nation and dishonoring the uniform.

02:00Justice can never be lenient with these criminals, nor with those who, protected by power or influence,

02:06use them as pawns in this anti-national scheme.
