U.S. dollar continues to slide

The dollar had its worst first half of the year in more than five decades.

00:00The U.S. dollar is having a rough year.

00:03The greenback dropped more than 10% against a basket of global currencies through June.

00:08It's a worse start to a year since 1973.

00:11And analysts say the slide may not be over.

00:14What's driving the decline?

00:16A combination of slower U.S. growth,

00:18growing concern over the federal debt and deficit,

00:21and expectations the Federal Reserve may start cutting interest rates.

00:25Lower rates typically mean lower returns for investors,

00:28which makes the dollar less appealing on the global stage.

00:31As for the outlook, Oxford Economics says the dollar's weakness could stick around until 2027.

00:37But don't count it out just yet.

00:40While weakness may persist,

00:42experts mostly agree that the U.S. dollar is not at serious risk of losing its reserve currency status.
