00:00A housewife pleaded not guilty in the sessions court in Shah Alam on Monday to a charge of
00:07improper use of network facilities by knowingly making and initiating the transmission of
00:12offensive comments against His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, on Facebook.
00:1939-year-old Suhaila Abd Halim was accused of knowingly posting the remarks under the profile
00:24name Suhaila Halim, with the intent to annoy others. The alleged offence took place at Sungai Bulo
00:30Hospital in the Pertarling District at about 8.30 a.m. on January 5, 2025. The mother of six was
00:38charged under Section 233, Subsection 1, Subsection A of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,
00:47which carries a maximum fine of 50,000 ringgit, imprisonment of up to one year or both upon
00:53conviction. An additional fine of 1,000 ringgit may be imposed for each day the offence continues
01:00after conviction. Judge Noraslin Othman granted bail of 10,000 ringgit with one surety. The court
01:07also ordered Suhaila, who was unrepresented, to report to the nearest police station once a month
01:13and not to contact prosecution witnesses. The case has been fixed for mention on September 17
01:19for document submission and the appointment of legal counsel.
