00:00:00It's a paper. It's like a one-eyed lily.
00:00:04You know, we're all getting a little bit older.
00:00:06You know, we can all relate at this point.
00:00:08A little bit. Just a little bit.
00:00:11How's your body feeling right now?
00:00:13Body feel good. We actually, okay, see, we play tonight.
00:00:16We play tonight. I'm actually about to go get on the bus for the game, but
00:00:19I think we got like five games left, and we're willing to get to the fun stuff.
00:00:25Chris, what's your favorite NCAA moment?
00:00:29You played two years at Wake Forest.
00:00:31Your second year, you guys balled out top five in the country.
00:00:34What do those moments feel like when you look back on games like this
00:00:37or you'll watch UConn win tomorrow?
00:00:39Like, what feelings do you get?
00:00:41You said, watch UConn win tomorrow. I heard that, DT.
00:00:44It's crazy.
00:00:46I got to the Sweet 16 my second year.
00:00:49Then we danced. We lost to damn West Virginia and damn Pitts Noggle, Mike Gansey.
00:00:54Some bullshit. I still ain't got over that, to tell you the truth.
00:00:57That's a good team.
00:00:59Whatever.
00:01:01It's no intensity like the NCAA tournament.
00:01:05Like, when the kid hit the shot yesterday to win the game,
00:01:08like, if you didn't play it in the NCAA tournament, you feel that emotion.
00:01:12You watch it. That's why the games are so big.
00:01:16Right.
00:01:16I mean, the fact that we're sitting here, and I bet all of us right now, you just talked about West Virginia.
00:01:22I'm going to assume it's losing to Notre Dame in the semis.
00:01:24Same for me.
00:01:25It's like, those are the games you remember.
00:01:28Those, like, epic, terrible losses in the NCAA tournament.
00:01:31Never.
00:01:31They talk about March Madness.
00:01:33It's March Sadness for a lot of people, too.
00:01:35It's very creepy.
00:01:36It's very sad.
00:01:37Y'all know when you watch the One Shining Moment video.
00:01:41You know, it's not hard to celebrate.
00:01:43It's so emotional because they're showing them videos of them teams that lost.
00:01:46And you just work so hard, work so hard, and then that's it.
00:01:52That's crazy.
00:01:53Speaking of sadness, we were talking about when KD twisted his ankle in warm-ups.
00:01:57That was also a very sad.
00:01:58Very sad moment.
00:01:59That's a very sad moment.
00:02:01Chris, has anything happened to you?
00:02:02Something wrong with the both of y'all.
00:02:05You know, listen, so I get the opportunity to see a BT very often, right?
00:02:11I see BT very often at the gym.
00:02:14And when stuff like that happens, man, I used to watch Steve Nash.
00:02:21You know, I watched Tony Parker.
00:02:23Crazy, because then I ended up playing against these guys.
00:02:26You know what I mean?
00:02:27Obviously, Magic Johnson.
00:02:30Probably Isaiah Thomas.
00:02:31But AI, Allen Overson.
00:02:33That was my favorite player.
00:02:34You call him playing guard, shooting guard, I don't care what you call him.
00:02:36I watched everything Allen Overson.
00:02:40Did you ever watch Charles Barkley by any chance?
00:02:44You know what's crazy?
00:02:47He's our next guest, so I'm trying to see.
00:02:50Yeah.
00:02:51Let me tell you, man, what's crazy is there's a picture of me when I was a kid.
00:02:55I actually had like a Charles Barkley, like 76ers outfit.
00:03:01You know what I mean?
00:03:02That was my chubby days.
00:03:06We all had them.
00:03:07Baby fat ballers.
00:03:09Baby fat ballers.
00:03:09It all comes back and forth.
00:03:10Yeah.
00:03:10It's a big circle, Chris.
00:03:12A place of place.
00:03:13How did you end up in a Sixers jersey being from North Carolina?
00:03:17I thought you were going to say how do you know I'm skinny, because we're plant-based.
00:03:20I know you were going to say that.
00:03:21There we go.
00:03:24I wasn't a fan.
00:03:25I was a die-hard Michael Jordan fan.
00:03:27Don't get it twisted.
00:03:27But when you're a kid, your parents buy out what you wear.
00:03:30You don't get to choose.
00:03:32This is very true.
00:03:33This is very true.
00:03:34I mean, being from North Carolina, was like the pressure to go to UNC or Duke?
00:03:39I mean, you ended up going to Wake Forest and putting them on the map and like, but was
00:03:42there any pressure to go to those schools?
00:03:46Carolina wanted me to walk on.
00:03:48They asked me if I could walk on.
00:03:50Yeah.
00:03:51And we couldn't afford that.
00:03:52Was that Dave Smith?
00:03:54No, I was Matt Doherty at the time.
00:03:55Hey, relax.
00:03:56Hey, you've got to be cool over there.
00:04:01I did go to Carolina basketball camp when Dary Smith was the coach, though.
00:04:07That makes sense.
00:04:08You're a fool, DT.
00:04:10I'm like, there shouldn't be any old jokes.
00:04:11I'm the oldest one here.
00:04:12I'm like, you're actually the youngest one.
00:04:14I was cursing there.
00:04:14Yeah, you're actually the youngest one.
00:04:16Yeah.
00:04:16Was there, how did you end up choosing Wake Forest?
00:04:20Man, it was close to home.
00:04:22It was a great academic school.
00:04:24And I was really close with, I mean, close with Coach Skip Brosser, my college coach.
00:04:29He actually passed away my second year in the NBA.
00:04:32He was the realest.
00:04:34Yeah.
00:04:35There's just something, like, like, Caitlin, like, there's just something about when you
00:04:39play for your home state that, you know, obviously, she's from New York, went to Connecticut.
00:04:44I'm from Cali, went to Connecticut.
00:04:46But, like, just seeing a kid like Iowa, like, she has the whole state on her back.
00:04:49Like, and you can feel that passion.
00:04:51You play with a different chip on your shoulder.
00:04:53Y'all saw that video of her family standing in the stands.
00:04:57You know what I mean?
00:04:58Like, not cheering or anything like that.
00:04:59I know my family.
00:05:01Sort of like that.
00:05:02Because they sort of on that journey with you.
00:05:04You know?
00:05:04Right.
00:05:05There she goes.
00:05:09There she goes.
00:05:11Well, it's like they keep asking, like, how do you stop that?
00:05:13Like, hope she misses.
00:05:14Yeah.
00:05:14Like, what are you going to do?
00:05:15She's at the half court.
00:05:17The thing people don't talk about when you play for your hometown is the ticket requests.
00:05:21Oh, yeah.
00:05:21Oh, man.
00:05:22The ticket requests must be insane when you go to a school where you're from.
00:05:26Now they got NIL money so they can afford it.
00:05:30Buy the extra ones?
00:05:31Yeah.
00:05:31This kid's making a lot of money, Chris.
00:05:33Man, so far it's back and forth.
00:05:37Yeah.
00:05:37I'm enjoying this so far.
00:05:38But you know what's crazy?
00:05:38It's on the other side.
00:05:39You got Angel Reefs and all them.
00:05:41You know what I mean?
00:05:42LSU girls, they got a lot of dog in them.
00:05:44You know what I mean?
00:05:45And so you can't discredit that.
00:05:47So this is going to be a good game, if you ask me.
00:05:50Yeah, we were saying earlier, we were kind of like, oh, do you think this is going to win?
00:05:54The thing about LSU that I like is they can win ugly.
00:05:58Yeah.
00:05:58They can win when things don't go their way because, like you said, they scrap, they grind.
00:06:03Iowa needs to hit shots.
00:06:04They need to be a little more finessed in that way.
00:06:07Yeah.
00:06:08There she goes.
00:06:09Although they're more than right now.
00:06:10Finesse in a way.
00:06:13Yeah.
00:06:14And you know what else makes her so tough is that Kaitlin is really good.
00:06:18But y'all know it's a different type of confidence when you can shoot the ball and none of your teammates are like, that's a bad shot.
00:06:26Or why are you shooting that?
00:06:27You know what I mean?
00:06:29Yeah.
00:06:30That's different.
00:06:31That's different.
00:06:33That's a different confidence than when you shoot a three and there's someone in the corner like, uh.
00:06:37Yeah.
00:06:37Right.
00:06:38Right.
00:06:39What's up?
00:06:39And that's the belief of her teammates, right?
00:06:44Like, her teammates, like, damn, Kaitlin, appreciate you getting us here.
00:06:47You know, we're doing our part.
00:06:49You're doing your part.
00:06:50But keep shooting.
00:06:51If she missed, they probably, like, keep shooting.
00:06:53Keep shooting.
00:06:55Yeah.
00:06:56That was what we talked about with Cheryl Swoops two days ago.
00:06:59Cheryl was like, yeah, I will shoot it ten times in a row.
00:07:02And they'd be like, keep shooting, Cheryl.
00:07:03And we're like, Cheryl, you're shooting regardless.
00:07:05All right, we're about to head to another commercial break.
00:07:11Chris, if you want to stick around, we'd love to have you.
00:07:13Valley Boys.
00:07:14Thank you so much.
00:07:15We know you've got a game.
00:07:16I would if I could.
00:07:17I've got to go get ready for this game.
00:07:19Definitely.
00:07:19I have a goal line with the Diana Tarazi Sue Bird Show.
00:07:23They could read restaurant menus or a phone book out loud, and it would be so entertaining.
00:07:27Except if you can't read.
00:07:29What do you do in restaurants?
00:07:31You bring out your flashlight?
00:07:32I do bring out my flashlight.
00:07:33I do the one cock-eyed thing.
00:07:36Yeah, you do it.
00:07:36That's where I'm at in my life.
00:07:37You're the one I will eat.
00:07:38I'm trying to get LASIK, and they just keep rejecting me.
00:07:41I know.
00:07:41That's crazy.
00:07:41That's the story of my life, right?
00:07:43So what about when you're done playing?
00:07:44Will you just do it?
00:07:45Then I'll probably just do it.
00:07:46Then I'll just do it.
00:07:46But like I was saying, Chris is just the best.
00:07:48You know what?
00:07:49Because he actually watches the game.
00:07:50He knows what he's talking about.
00:07:51He's probably following the tournament the whole time.
00:07:55We should ask him if he thought UConn was going to win in the men's.
00:07:57Shout out to Chris.
00:07:59Oh, my God.
00:08:01Still going.
00:08:01This is when, like, if you think one person's going to guard her, you're mistaken.
00:08:11That's why I would run people at her.
00:08:14I would run people at her.
00:08:17Alexis, Laura, LSU.
00:08:18But yeah, she needs 17 points to break Cheryl Zubes' record.
00:08:22Oh, and she'll get that in the first half.
00:08:23Then say a tournament record for points.
00:08:2417 more or?
00:08:25Just 17 points in the game.
00:08:26Okay, so she needs eight more, which she'll get.
00:08:28Yeah, she'll get it.
00:08:29Yeah, where's the post player?
00:08:30Is that not the same play?
00:08:32Yeah, I don't understand that.
00:08:33Is that the same play?
00:08:33This is where I...
00:08:34Or am I drinking too much?
00:08:35I don't understand it.
00:08:36No, you need to drink more.
00:08:37Was that the same play, though?
00:08:38Yes.
00:08:38This is when I don't get all that film and analytics and, like, all this film.
00:08:43You can't let it come out clean again.
00:08:44A guard's not going to be able to guard Cate's part by herself when Cazano's doing handoffs.
00:08:49I'm just mad, man.
00:08:50There's a bug in here.
00:08:53This isn't with Angel Rees.
00:08:54I just don't think you want to get into, like, the scoring back and forth with Iowa.
00:08:58I don't, but you know what?
00:08:58They can put it up.
00:08:59LSU.
00:09:00Knocked down a corner three.
00:09:01Mid-range jumper.
00:09:03Offensive readout.
00:09:04Yeah, Klaje hit one.
00:09:05That was big.
00:09:05They're getting, like...
00:09:06Like, why is that post player up?
00:09:08You gotta be up.
00:09:08You gotta be up.
00:09:10I think what happens in pick and roll coverage is when a guard...
00:09:13There's a bug.
00:09:14It's driving me nuts.
00:09:15When a guard comes off, hits the roller, hits the roller, I think post players are like,
00:09:18oh no, my man's scoring.
00:09:19It's like, no.
00:09:20Just don't let the guard score.
00:09:22It's not your...
00:09:23It's...
00:09:23Who takes the roller?
00:09:24Who takes the roller?
00:09:25But it's not you.
00:09:25It's not you.
00:09:26It's not you.
00:09:27Somebody else has to worry about that.
00:09:28You gotta tag in the back.
00:09:31Who takes the roller?
00:09:32I don't know.
00:09:33Right for a high-scoring game, which I'm excited for.
00:09:36Like...
00:09:37I think that's entertaining.
00:09:40That's what we want.
00:09:41I mean, at the end of the day, it is basketball.
00:09:43Dribbling, passing, shooting, right?
00:09:44It's not called defensive baskets.
00:09:49But what wins championships?
00:09:51That's a misnomer.
00:09:53You can defend all you want.
00:09:54If you can't put it in the hoop, you only win in a...
00:09:57You're not winning anything.
00:09:58What else is a misnomer?
00:10:00I don't even know what a misnomer is.
00:10:02But I do have a friend that they used to call Mr. Domer.
00:10:05Interesting.
00:10:06What was his first name?
00:10:08You don't want to know.
00:10:09Okay, I thought so.
00:10:11But, you know, I like what they're both doing right now.
00:10:14Even I was having her off-ball a lot.
00:10:18Yeah, it's giving her different options.
00:10:21When you have the ball and someone can pressure you, that's what exhausts you.
00:10:25I still, the minute she caught it, I would be looking to run someone at her.
00:10:28A guard.
00:10:29I'll say, in this final four, they've been letting them play.
00:10:40They've been letting them play for the most part.
00:10:42You think so?
00:10:43That was on number 55 from LSU, Kateri Poole.
00:10:46I'm sure Aaliyah Boston doesn't think that.
00:10:48No.
00:10:49Man, that's tough.
00:10:50I was thinking back about that.
00:10:52Just the idea of senior year.
00:10:53Obviously, Aaliyah Boston declared for the WNBA draft, so let's talk about that a little
00:10:56bit.
00:10:58Senior year, you get in foul trouble.
00:11:00I know.
00:11:01That's tough.
00:11:01That is gut-wrenching.
00:11:04And we were talking about it, that her second foul was...
00:11:06Yeah, that was suspect.
00:11:07That was suspect.
00:11:08You know, two people going after the basketball, just call it out of bounds and keep it moving.
00:11:11Mm-hmm.
00:11:11Five, two, one, two, one.
00:11:12I mean, Katelyn's on pace to have four times 14, carry the two, I mean, she's going to have
00:11:22a lot.
00:11:23I don't even try.
00:11:23That's half a century soon.
00:11:25When people ask me math questions, I literally go blank.
00:11:30You know, Aaliyah is doing things that you haven't seen since you do all year.
00:11:34Trap hard, rotate.
00:11:36I mean, these are schemes that you would do in the WNBA that when we watch college, sometimes
00:11:39they can't get it done.
00:11:41But I just want to all be on the same page.
00:11:44Well, that's what I was saying earlier about buy-in with your coach.
00:11:46I mean, when you're around these teams, I was around Iowa a little bit.
00:11:49With LSU, I haven't been around them personally, but you can just see it on TV.
00:11:53They really believe in their coaches.
00:11:54They play for their coaches.
00:11:55So even if a coach gives not the best game plan, if all players are following it and
00:12:01they're bought into it, you're probably going to execute it.
00:12:04Yeah, absolutely.
00:12:04If you're all doing the wrong thing, you're going to be okay.
00:12:06Yeah, and that's what was impressive about Iowa against South Carolina.
00:12:08I mean, they packed in that paint.
00:12:11Even when South Carolina hit a couple shots, didn't faze them, they stayed with it.
00:12:15And I was actually talking to some other coaches in college.
00:12:17And what they struggled with against South Carolina is having that game plan and really
00:12:22sticking to it.
00:12:23They did it like 80, 90%.
00:12:25And it sounds like we've finally got someone's Zoom working.
00:12:29So we're now connecting with Charles Barkley, brought to you by AT&T.
00:12:34Chuck, welcome to the show.
00:12:37Hey, ladies.
00:12:38How y'all doing?
00:12:39What's going on, Chuck?
00:12:40We're chilling, man.
00:12:42This is a nice little life.
00:12:43We've watched the basketball games.
00:12:45Hey, Chris Paul had a Charles Barkley jersey growing up.
00:12:48We did.
00:12:50You learn something new every day.
00:12:52It fit him with a dress.
00:12:53It fit him like a dress.
00:12:56Hey, it was a big dress, too.
00:12:58Big dress.
00:12:59I feel good about this game if I'm LSU at slower pace.
00:13:07I really do.
00:13:08This is going to be a heck of a game.
00:13:09Yeah, I mean, well, let's talk about real quick.
00:13:14You were at the men's tournament yesterday's games.
00:13:16Your reaction went viral on that last second shot.
00:13:20What were you thinking in that FAU game?
00:13:23Well, first of all, FAU had a magnificent season.
00:13:28Them getting to the Final Four was incredible.
00:13:32I didn't think the kid was going to get the shot off in time.
00:13:35I'm looking at the club and I'm like, three, two.
00:13:40Man, he's got to get this ball up.
00:13:43And the kid made a heck of a shot.
00:13:45It was a great game.
00:13:47I've said many times, Saturday at the Final Four is the greatest day of course for me,
00:13:51other than me going to the Olympics.
00:13:54I've been blessed to go to the Olympics twice.
00:13:57But Saturday at the Final Four is the next best thing, in my opinion.
00:14:01It's just, it's one of those great days in sports where you can sit on the couch and
00:14:07we have couches here in studio, which is kind of nice.
00:14:09I'm not going to lie about that, Charles.
00:14:11But, you know, it feels like every time someone goes for that pull-up jumper, it's going in.
00:14:15Like, people fall in love with the long-range three, but when they get to that little sweet
00:14:18spot, I feel like that game winner always goes in.
00:14:22Of course, it seems like you've been a lot.
00:14:23Yeah, it was incredible.
00:14:24You know, when you get 80,000 people there on that Saturday, and you get a game, because
00:14:30the UConn game, you know, shout out to Miami, who had a hell of a season also.
00:14:35Yeah.
00:14:35You know, Connecticut just looks like they're the team to beat.
00:14:39But, man, what a great day of basketball it is.
00:14:44Absolutely.
00:14:44We're having a very similar experience in this building.
00:14:48The environment's been amazing.
00:14:49Iowa is on.
00:14:50It's like that Cinderella.
00:14:52Even though they're a two-seed, it feels a little bit like a Cinderella, because they're
00:14:58that team.
00:14:58All these players are from Iowa.
00:15:00I don't think you can have Caitlin Clark on your team and be a Cinderella.
00:15:05I mean, watching that young lady play is amazing.
00:15:10Her range is incredible.
00:15:12Her eyesight is incredible.
00:15:15The way she, and the thing I like about her, other than her sport ability, her ability
00:15:20to push the ball up the floor, the only man I've ever seen do that, consistently, was
00:15:25Jason Kidd.
00:15:27She always kicked the ball way ahead.
00:15:29A lot of point guards, they kind of got a little stuff in the bones.
00:15:34They don't want to pass the ball ahead, because they want to hold it so they can get to the
00:15:38fish.
00:15:39Jason Kidd and Caitlin are the two best I've seen.
00:15:42They don't care about giving me a fish.
00:15:45They keep you way, way ahead.
00:15:47It just makes it easier for the person who catches the ball, but they don't have to go
00:15:51against the defense.
00:15:53Back in for the Tigers now, number four.
00:15:55I mean, we keep talking about, like, how do you stop a Caitlin Clark?
00:15:58And, I mean, you see a lot of it in the NBA, in the WBA.
00:16:01How do you, like, what would you do, like, to see where a defensive stopper also in your
00:16:04long NBA career?
00:16:06Well, the first thing I would do, I would push up on her.
00:16:10You know, I want her shooting twos instead of threes.
00:16:15Because she's going to win the game shooting threes, not shooting twos.
00:16:19So, I would push up on her and make her go by me.
00:16:22And the second thing I would do, any time she came near another player, I would double.
00:16:28And if one of those other girls make a play, I'd shake their hand out of the game and say,
00:16:32get up.
00:16:33But that's the way I would do it.
00:16:34I'd push up on her and make her shoot twos.
00:16:36But any time she ran a pick and roll, I'm going to double her immediately.
00:16:43Oh, I couldn't agree more.
00:16:45I've been saying that the entire time.
00:16:46Even right now, she's dribbling the ball off the court, chilling.
00:16:49The minute she tried to get into any kind of attack, like right now, number four, Flau'Jay,
00:16:53run at her.
00:16:54Run at her.
00:16:55Make her pass it.
00:16:56Make those other players playmakers.
00:16:57I feel like any time you can make players who aren't used to being playmakers, and you
00:17:03force them to do that, you're setting yourself up for success.
00:17:07Well, you know what's interesting about that, too?
00:17:11One of my favorite coaches is Rick Patino.
00:17:14I think he's one of the best to ever do it.
00:17:17And one of the reasons he's always been successful in college, there's normally only one person
00:17:23on the college team can dribble, and he had great success in college, wherever he's been.
00:17:29He's an amazing coach.
00:17:31But when he tried to do that in the NBA, everybody can dribble.
00:17:36That's one of the reasons I personally don't think he had great success, because if you get
00:17:41the ball, then guys who can dribble, you're always at an advantage of three-on-two or two-on-one.
00:17:47You're going to score every time.
00:17:48But in college, it's only one person on the college team can normally dribble.
00:17:54And if you take the ball out of their hand and make those other players playmakers, that's
00:17:59one of the reasons I think he's struggling in the race.
00:18:02I would play Kaitlin Carter in the track the same way.
00:18:05Some other girls will have to make plays.
00:18:07If they make plays, you know what?
00:18:09You say, hey, y'all were better than we were.
00:18:1122.
00:18:13Right.
00:18:13All right, George, we're going to go on a break, but hopefully you stay with us.
00:18:17You guys are all in your prime.
00:18:18You were a bunch of badasses like, that just must have been insane.
00:18:23It was by far and away the craziest thing I've ever done in my life.
00:18:27It has to be.
00:18:29You know, and be honest with y'all, we didn't know how big it was going to be.
00:18:33I mean, we knew it was going to be the Olympics.
00:18:35When we got there, we had 5,000 people outside the hotel every day watching us get on the bus.
00:18:42We had thousands of people on the highway, and we were driving to the game just holding
00:18:49up signs.
00:18:50And most of them had Michael, Magic the Purge.
00:18:53There was a couple guys having a sign, but most of them were buried, Magic, and Michael.
00:18:58And we had a police car and motorcycle in front of the car, behind the bus, two on the side
00:19:07with machine guns.
00:19:09We had a helicopter above the bus.
00:19:11It was one of the craziest things I've ever been a part of.
00:19:16But I tell people, represent your country.
00:19:20It's the coolest thing I've ever been blessed to do.
00:19:22And I'm thankful I got to play in two Olympics, and that's the best thing that ever happened
00:19:28to me in my life.
00:19:31So, the best game that no one ever saw, that inter-squad scrimmage that you guys had that
00:19:38year.
00:19:38What side were you on?
00:19:41And was it true?
00:19:43Well, first of all, Brent Hill talked all the time.
00:19:47He hit us with the first of all.
00:19:48Hey, so, they were like little kids, okay?
00:19:56So, we did not want to hurt these little kids.
00:20:00They were playing like it was game seven.
00:20:03And we were like joking around.
00:20:06And before we knew it, we were down 20.
00:20:08And then, if you guys start screwing around, y'all know if we lose in the Olympics, it's
00:20:17going to be the most embarrassing thing that ever happens in the United States.
00:20:22So, then, you're like, okay, guys, we're going to take these kids serious.
00:20:28And then, we go on like a 20-zip run to tie it up.
00:20:32And then, Chuck calls the game.
00:20:34So, the truth is in there somewhere.
00:20:39But, you know, ladies, these guys were like 18, 19 years old.
00:20:45And we were like, gosh, let's go hurt these little kids.
00:20:48Like I say, they were playing like it was game seven.
00:20:52But when we saw it turning up a notch, we saw it like 23 points and get it tied.
00:20:57Chuck called the game.
00:20:59And that's the true story.
00:21:01Okay, so we actually have, it's funny you say it like that.
00:21:05We have our own version of that.
00:21:07When we were first on the Olympic team, 2004, I'm 23, Dee's 21.
00:21:14So, we're the young ones.
00:21:15And we're playing against Lisa Leslie.
00:21:16And we're playing against Dawn Staley and Cheryl Swoops.
00:21:19And we would whoop their, oh, every scrimmage.
00:21:23We would just kill them every scrimmage.
00:21:25And we were like, what is this?
00:21:26Stalke may be a freshman, but she runs the floor incredibly well.
00:21:32Williams spins in and finishes over Clark, who had to be careful already with one foul.
00:21:38It is who Williams is very capable when she catches the ball, both facing the basket and with her back to it.
00:21:44Good decision there.
00:21:45Clark, what a feed.
00:21:46And the finish from Marty.
00:21:48A gorgeous lead pass from Caitlin Clark.
00:21:59Here is Smith.
00:22:01Clark backs off.
00:22:02Smith finishes.
00:22:04Smart awareness by LSU on these mismatches in the post.
00:22:08Stalke makes the catch.
00:22:10Can't wrap it in.
00:22:11Nice job defensively by the Dallas native Smith.
00:22:15Here's Morris into the corner.
00:22:17Carson, again.
00:22:21Jasmine Carson delivering huge minutes off the bench for the Tigers.
00:22:27We are being treated to elite shot making in this game right now.
00:22:31Both teams over 50%.
00:22:32And a foul here is going to go against Morris.
00:22:36That will be her second.
00:22:37Kate Martin looking at Caitlin Clark, but instead delivers to Stalke as she's running the floor.
00:22:44And then on a beautiful dive as Martin gets the back door cut.
00:22:49And here, Carson, again, elite shot making we've had so far in this game, Ryan.
00:22:54Morris just picks up her second.
00:22:57So she very frustrated heads to the bench.
00:22:59Last year, Poa into the game for LSU.
00:23:04Clark trying to flag it down.
00:23:06She does.
00:23:07There's plenty of time to operate.
00:23:09That's going to be a foul on Poa.
00:23:11And it'll stay right here with Iowa.
00:23:18That was on Poa.
00:23:21Foul called on Poa.
00:23:22I think she blocked before Clark extended.
00:23:26You see Clark has scored her assisted on 64% of Iowa's points in the NCAA tournament.
00:23:31We know she did it on every point of the fourth quarter in the win against South Carolina.
00:23:36Clark?
00:23:37You're going to get Clark for a foul there.
00:23:39And that is her second.
00:23:43That's the right call.
00:23:44No, Ryan, that's the right call as she comes off dribbling with her right hand.
00:23:48Andrea Carter demonstrated this in our pregame show.
00:23:51You see her with the left grabbing, getting around.
00:23:54That is a foul.
00:23:55That is the right call.
00:23:56So two on Clark who will stay on the floor.
00:24:00Unlike everybody else who has two who has headed to the bench.
00:24:03Johnson over to Poa and she will fire.
00:24:07And it's hit from three.
00:24:09How about this shooting from LSU?
00:24:12Largest lead of the game at seven.
00:24:15Clark looking for an answer.
00:24:17Short.
00:24:18O'Grady is fouled.
00:24:20An 8-0 LSU run.
00:24:29Shot making is contagious.
00:24:32And Poa steps right into it with confidence and drains it.
00:24:37Wow, this is an LSU team absolutely on fire.
00:24:41It's already equaled there.
00:24:43Makes per game average on the season from three.
00:24:45Five for eight in this first half.
00:24:47And Clark gets denied but fouled.
00:24:50Poa fouls.
00:24:51Clark shooting three.
00:24:53And now Clark right to the line number two on Poa.
00:24:57Hey, don't forget the 27th annual WNBA draft is upon us.
00:25:01The Indiana Fever has the first pick this year, followed by the Minnesota Leagues.
00:25:05The WNBA draft Monday, April 10th at 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.
00:25:09And the ESPN app.
00:25:10Aaliyah Boston declaring.
00:25:12Yes, expected to be the first pick of the draft.
00:25:15As Clark misses the first free throw.
00:25:19She's having to do a lot.
00:25:21She is having to do a lot.
00:25:22And we wonder if fatigue will play any part for Caitlin Clark down the stretch of this one.
00:25:27The last three-point attempt was strong room.
00:25:29That first free throw was strong room.
00:25:31Warnock and Sonato on the bench with two fouls.
00:25:33For LSU, they now have four players with two fouls.
00:25:36Poa, Reese, Morris, and Cool.
00:25:39Poa stays on the floor, as does Clark, who has two as well.
00:25:45Looks like Alexis Morris is ready to go back and spend.
00:25:48She has been a total gamer for the Tigers.
00:25:53Carson.
00:25:54Wow.
00:25:55How about this first half?
00:25:57Jasmine Carson trying to be a hero for LSU today.
00:26:01Timeout, Iowa.
00:26:02To that, do you continue to invite them?
00:26:11I think they're somewhere in the middle.
00:26:13I don't think you can completely leave them as wide open as you have been.
00:26:16But also, for a player like Caitlin Clark, you can only be so aggressive defensively because of the foul trouble that you're in.
00:26:23Sonato as well.
00:26:24Sonato back in.
00:26:25Marshall's foul by Carson.
00:26:27That will be the first on Carson, who's been terrific off the bench.
00:26:35Iowa in the bonus, so free throws coming with still 5.23 to come in this second quarter.
00:26:42Most points scored in a single NCAA tournament all time.
00:26:45Caitlin Clark has tied.
00:26:47Cheryl swoops his record from 1993, that incredible Texas Tech run.
00:26:53And Cheryl was on our colleague in the China Robinson's podcast, the Around the Rim podcast.
00:26:59And she said that she mentioned to the LSU coaching staff, hey, we know you can't stop Caitlin Clark.
00:27:04You just got to keep her under 47 in this game.
00:27:08The championship game record is swoops is 47 and 93.
00:27:13And worth noting that Cheryl swoops got all of those points in just five games because that was back in the day when only 48 teams made the tournament.
00:27:20And some teams got a bye in the first round.
00:27:23Sonato in with those two fouls, as Rebecca mentioned.
00:27:25Here's Koa, the runner is short, followed up by Johnson.
00:27:29Another chance for Carson.
00:27:32She dumps it down, and Williams lays it in.
00:27:35Big second chance points there for LSU.
00:27:39Mark looking for some space.
00:27:43Finding Marshall.
00:27:45Marshall around the Sonato screen.
00:27:48Stokey putting it on the deck, and she traveled.
00:27:51The freshman having a little trouble there.
00:27:59LSU already with 11 assists on the day.
00:28:01They've done a good job.
00:28:02We've mentioned it against the zone.
00:28:04Dribble penetration touches in the paint.
00:28:06Make the zone shift, and then finding open teammates.
00:28:09Stokey will check out, and now Warnock in with those two fouls as well.
00:28:17So Clark, Sonato, Warnock all in with two fouls.
00:28:21You asked about the defense, Ryan, Iowa, and a man-to-man a little bit closer.
00:28:24Wow, how about this first half?
00:28:28Jasmine Carson again.
00:28:31She's three for three from three.
00:28:35Clark through the lane, got bumped.
00:28:37No call, rebound Johnson.
00:28:41LSU is a ten-point lead here.
00:28:43Carson, you bet!
00:28:45Jasmine Carson electrifying the LSU fans as Marshall lays it in.
00:29:05What a first half from Carson in LSU.
00:29:10Seven of ten from three.
00:29:12Is Carson going to go Caitlin Clark now with a heat check?
00:29:17She was certainly begging for the basketball the second she got over midcourt.
00:29:20Paula bounces.
00:29:22Williams can't finish it.
00:29:24Rebound knocked around, and it's going to be a tie-up in Iowa basketball.
00:29:29I am so impressed by the players from both of these teams and their ability to step in, meet the moment, hit big shots.
00:29:38Jasmine Carson is one of them.
00:29:39This one was deep.
00:29:41How did Kim Mulkey feel about it?
00:29:45Well, Jasmine Carson was pretty happy.
00:29:49So was the LSU bench.
00:29:50Drea?
00:29:52Well, Ryan, they're excited for Jasmine Carson because she was four of 25 from three in March.
00:29:59Wow!
00:30:00A foul just called against either Clark or Sonano.
00:30:05It is Caitlin Clark, and it is her third.
00:30:12And it's Clark going to come out of this game.
00:30:15And Caitlin Clark, I think, is frustrated with the physicality of LSU here.
00:30:23Might need another look at the extension.
00:30:26And Poa getting up into Clark.
00:30:28So two offensive fouls called on Clark in this first half.
00:30:32And three personals on Clark now.
00:30:35How does Iowa navigate without her?
00:30:39Smith rims out.
00:30:41Sonano to rebound.
00:30:45I think right now, without Clark on the floor, the best-case scenario for Iowa is you tread water.
00:30:51And a foul here against LSU on Smith.
00:30:56And coming up at halftime, the degree halftime report.
00:30:58Becky Hammond on set.
00:31:00Headed to the Hall of Fame.
00:31:02Congratulations to the Aces, coach.
00:31:04And the officiating in the opening quarter certainly is going to be a story.
00:31:09You always hope that it's not on a stage like this, but impossible for it not to be with the fouls that have piled up for both teams.
00:31:16As Warnock misses the free throw.
00:31:20So Clark on the bench with three fouls.
00:31:29Reese has been on the bench the entire second quarter with two.
00:31:33Sonano and Warnock sat much of this first half with two.
00:31:37Alexis Morris on the bench with two for LSU.
00:31:40We talked to our premium show about how important it was for the Stars to stay out of foul trouble.
00:31:45And that box has not been checked.
00:31:49Here's Johnson.
00:31:51Now, Drea was talking about the struggles of Jasmine Carson, her shooting struggle.
00:31:54In this tournament, she had been four for 19 total.
00:31:58Bola knocks down the three.
00:32:01An absurd display from deep from the LSU bench.
00:32:05Barry plus 22 in bench points.
00:32:13Kate Martin kicks.
00:32:14Sonano's face up.
00:32:16Throws off.
00:32:17Offensive rebound.
00:32:18Warnock gets fouled.
00:32:20And McKenna Warnock is going to the line.
00:32:27Four different players for LSU have made a three.
00:32:31And Poa lands on her tush, but she's going to celebrate no matter what.
00:32:36Going the other way.
00:32:39Angelique is quieting the crowd even from the sidelines.
00:32:43This has been an incredibly unexpected shooting performance from LSU.
00:32:51But they mostly told us yesterday.
00:32:53She said, South Carolina did not shoot it.
00:32:56We will.
00:32:57If they're going to give us face like that, we're going to take it.
00:33:00And the fearless nature with which they've taken it and had success doing it is what is the surprise.
00:33:08They had three made threes in their semifinal win.
00:33:11They've made eight in this first half.
00:33:14A 12-point LSU lead.
00:33:17Williams.
00:33:18And a travel.
00:33:22But smart.
00:33:23Go out tonight.
00:33:24See if you can pick up a third on her as well.
00:33:26But how about if you're LSU, Angel Reese and Alexis Morris, who are your two stars, have been on the bench the entire second quarter and your lead has only grown.
00:33:37Incredible.
00:33:37Sonata trying to find space.
00:33:41Dumps it out to Davis.
00:33:43Davis to the corner.
00:33:45So it's time to operate here for Iowa.
00:33:49Sonata turns and finishes.
00:33:51That is a beautiful finish for Monica Sonata.
00:33:55Over 2,400 points in her Iowa career.
00:33:57The Iowa faithful trying to spur on this team.
00:34:07Down 10 with Kittlin Clark on the bench with three fouls.
00:34:11Carson again.
00:34:13Jasmine Carson has not missed.
00:34:17And for LSU, it hasn't mattered what defense Iowa has been in, Ryan.
00:34:21And whether it's the triangle, a zone, it's been man to man lately, they have been able to find their advantage and go to it time and again.
00:34:28They are shooting 57.5% from the floor.
00:34:32Carson has 18 points.
00:34:35Sonata barrels in.
00:34:37Can't finish.
00:34:38Out of bounds.
00:34:39It will be LSU basketball.
00:34:41Ryan, can we commemorate the moment?
00:34:44Monica Sonata just dribbled.
00:34:46The second time in the NCAA tournament, she's put the ball on the floor.
00:34:49Desperate times call for desperate vengeance.
00:34:53That's right, my friends.
00:34:5812-point LSU lead.
00:35:00Johnson into the paint.
00:35:02Can't finish.
00:35:03And Warnock the rebound.
00:35:06And Iowa down 12.
00:35:1014-second difference game and shot clock.
00:35:13Sonata bounces in traffic.
00:35:16Here comes Johnson off the steal.
00:35:18Blaget jumps and serves it in.
00:35:25And Iowa can hold for a final shot.
00:35:34Ten first half turnovers from the Hawkeyes.
00:35:37Davis hands it off.
00:35:44Martin traveled.
00:35:48And LSU still with some time here.
00:35:58The 56 points for LSU.
00:36:00The most ever in a championship game in a single half.
00:36:08This is a treat.
00:36:10This has been 20 minutes of a treat of a basketball game to watch.
00:36:14Here's Kola.
00:36:16Kola hands it off.
00:36:18Carson banks it in.
00:36:21My goodness.
00:36:23It's wizardry.
00:36:29Missed shots in the first half in order to get offensive boards.
00:36:32I'm interested to see if she will be a little less relentless on the offensive blast.
00:36:36At least early because of those fouls.
00:36:38Look at what the bench has done for LSU.
00:36:41Katelyn Clark in Iowa have a comeback in there.
00:36:46Here's Poole.
00:36:47Guarded by Marshall.
00:36:52Boris.
00:36:55Draves away.
00:36:57On the attack.
00:36:59Catching fire for Johnson.
00:37:01Back iron no.
00:37:02And Johnson follows it up.
00:37:04Laje Johnson has it knocked away.
00:37:07Sinato got her hands on it first and then controlled.
00:37:10Iowa in a 1-3-1 on that possession.
00:37:12Clark.
00:37:13And it's a three.
00:37:14A little short.
00:37:15Wornock the offensive rebound.
00:37:17Had it stripped.
00:37:18And out of bounds.
00:37:19It's going to stay with Iowa.
00:37:22Iowa's going to have to rely a little bit on that on the defensive end.
00:37:26And that's just hoping that LSU misses.
00:37:29Deja Williams lost her sneaker.
00:37:31That happens a lot in LSU games.
00:37:33I think it's one of the Grinch pokies that Vanessa Bryant sent as well.
00:37:37They want to treat that shoe with care.
00:37:38They certainly do.
00:37:40Let's check in with Holly Rowe.
00:37:41Listening into Lisa Bluter of Iowa.
00:37:43She wants her team to get the ball inside.
00:37:45A lot of cross screens.
00:37:46Set up Monica Sinato.
00:37:47And then when they get stopped.
00:37:49Push in transition.
00:37:50You stop right there.
00:37:51And they got a good look for Clark.
00:37:52Even though she didn't hit it.
00:37:53They want to be a little bit more aggressive here in the second half.
00:37:56Especially how tight the game's being officiated inside.
00:37:59Sinato can't finish it.
00:38:00Nice job there from Williams.
00:38:03So a couple of looks that Iowa would sign for on that trip down.
00:38:08Apart from Cleese and Otto inside.
00:38:10Neither bears fruit.
00:38:12Reese pops it back to Poole after the trap.
00:38:17Some Ray Guy hang time on that pass.
00:38:20Here's Morris looking to take Marshall.
00:38:28Williams and Reese got jumbled up.
00:38:30Didn't matter.
00:38:31I think it Williams and Johnson who were both there.
00:38:33And Williams hits the jumper.
00:38:35And a great balance offensively for LSU.
00:38:37You shot the ball so well in the first half.
00:38:39But you don't want to just rely on that.
00:38:40That's not necessarily your identity.
00:38:42Good job by...
00:38:43Warnock misfires on the three.
00:38:46Good job by Morris.
00:38:47Sealing that, dribbling in.
00:38:49One of the things Alexis Morris talked to us about how every game presents something different
00:38:53to what her team needs from her.
00:38:55Both offensively and defensively.
00:38:58She's been an elite decision maker for the Tigers all season long and especially in this tournament.
00:39:03Here's Reese.
00:39:08Reese patiently backs in and gets a whistle.
00:39:11Who's it going to be on?
00:39:12It's on Sinano and it is her third.
00:39:16The NBA Wednesday on ESPN starts in Milwaukee this week as the Bucs host the Bulls at 7.30 Eastern and then at 10.
00:39:22Nothing further.
00:39:24And obviously that is a tough reward for Sinano after taking the elbow.
00:39:33Reese was in foul trouble in the first half as the majority of both rosters have been.
00:39:44Reese hits both.
00:39:47A 21-point LSU lead.
00:39:53Not only have they shot it well from the floor, they have shot it well from the free throw line.
00:39:5710 of 11.
00:39:58That is not characteristic of them.
00:40:00Clark knocks down a three.
00:40:03That time LSU is switching out on the on-ball screen, which we hadn't seen in the first half and it didn't matter.
00:40:14Screen by Sinano.
00:40:15Williams switches out but then retreats too quickly.
00:40:18You cannot retreat until Morris gets there.
00:40:23And Kaitlin Clark with that make has set the record for most points in a single tournament in NCAA history.
00:40:30And she will come back for the Hawkeyes.
00:40:39Williams surrounded, goes up, can't finish.
00:40:42Reeves underneath, lost it.
00:40:44Martin has it.
00:40:45And a tie-up will give Iowa possession.
00:40:48Angel Reeves does such a great job with her lower body to try to get offensive rebounding position.
00:40:53Stays low and strong.
00:40:55Didn't come up with it there, but she was in the mix.
00:40:58If you're Iowa, how do you crawl back into this game?
00:41:02Well, you've got to keep getting stops on that end of the floor.
00:41:04And they've done a fair job of that.
00:41:06But you have to score on all of your possessions.
00:41:08They're a great percentage of them.
00:41:12Sinano looking for some space.
00:41:14Able to finish.
00:41:15Plus the foul.
00:41:17Williams gets whistled to the personal.
00:41:21And Sinano has a chance at three.
00:41:23And it looks like Williams might have taken a shot for the face.
00:41:30Yeah, with Sinano's left arm as she's getting hit on the right,
00:41:34came down and got Williams right in the chops.
00:41:37It's gotten very physical on the interior.
00:41:39As Williams and Sinano have both taken elbows now in this third.
00:41:46It's a 6-0 Iowa run.
00:41:48This would be the largest comeback in championship game history.
00:41:55The record was 15 points as Johnson travels.
00:42:04Anytime you have a big deficit,
00:42:06you try to break the game up into smaller, more manageable pieces.
00:42:09I mean, whether it's two stops in a row or three stops in a row,
00:42:13that's how Iowa has to look at this game.
00:42:16Johnson checks out.
00:42:18And Jasmine Carson, even for LSU.
00:42:21My God, Carson off the bench, 21 points.
00:42:25In that first half, Warnock, they need it.
00:42:28They have it!
00:42:28A 9-0 Iowa run.
00:42:41Nearly turned over.
00:42:43Williams lost it momentarily.
00:42:47Goes back to work.
00:42:48Can't finish it.
00:42:49Sinano has it.
00:42:51A chance for Iowa to creep closer.
00:42:53Clark, a bomb!
00:42:55Off the mark.
00:42:57And maybe a bit too ambitious.
00:43:00Although nothing has been for Clark in this tournament.
00:43:04Clark playing with three fouls.
00:43:06So is Sinano.
00:43:07Williams off the mark.
00:43:09Lease underneath is fouled by Warnock.
00:43:12And that will be number three on McKenna Warnock.
00:43:15And that last three-pointer for Iowa.
00:43:21This is what happens when you gamble on the defensive end.
00:43:24Jasmine Carson goes for the steal.
00:43:25Angel Reese just has to step up to stop the ball.
00:43:27What happens?
00:43:28You stick to the three-point shooter, McKenna Warnock, and she knocks it down.
00:43:31LSU has to be careful with their gambling on defense.
00:43:35Sinano.
00:43:36Off the rebound.
00:43:36Thank you, Dre.
00:43:37Here's Clark.
00:43:38Marshall alone connects.
00:43:40A 12-0 run for Iowa.
00:44:02Morris can't get it to go.
00:44:04But the foul from Reese.
00:44:06The best offensive rebounder in the country.
00:44:09Clark behind the back.
00:44:13Separates.
00:44:13And hits.
00:44:23Iowa has done a lot of work in a hurry.
00:44:26A 15-2 run in a three-minute span.
00:44:29Here's Poole barging in.
00:44:31And a foul is called on Warnock.
00:44:34And that will be her fourth.
00:44:39And so now, Warnock checks out.
00:44:46And that changes the dynamic for Iowa because Stokey is not the threat on the perimeter that Warnock is.
00:44:51Exactly right.
00:44:52Warnock has good size inside defensively.
00:44:55But more importantly, Ryan, yes, she is a very good three-point shooter.
00:45:00Stokey does not have that part of her game.
00:45:02Poole short on the free throw.
00:45:06Warnock, a key member of an Iowa starting five that is making its 90-second start together tonight.
00:45:12Most of the last 20 years.
00:45:14Poole missed them both.
00:45:16Rebounds.
00:45:16Stonano able to grab.
00:45:20Here comes Martin.
00:45:22Shedding Poole.
00:45:24Trying to squeeze it out.
00:45:25It could not.
00:45:27Morris.
00:45:28Clark, remember, has three.
00:45:29Had to avoid.
00:45:30Reese.
00:45:31Can't pop it in.
00:45:33And it'll stay here with LSU.
00:45:36Wow.
00:45:36Have things tightened in Dallas.
00:45:40Three-point shooting teams are never out of the game.
00:45:43And Iowa has upped the end of the Iowa huddle.
00:45:46And Lisa Bluter said every stop we run, set screens for Kaitlin, then set screens for each other.
00:45:52Both coaches with very firm game plans right now.
00:45:55Great point, Holly.
00:45:56And it's something Andrea Carter has been saying all season long for LSU.
00:45:59They've been in situations where they get big leads but do not put their opponents away.
00:46:05Morris.
00:46:05Big bucket off the inbound there for LSU.
00:46:08This is second field goal for Alexis Morris, who averaged 24 over the last two games.
00:46:17Ten-point LSU lead.
00:46:19Sonano, look in the post.
00:46:21Marshall, thought about it.
00:46:22On the run, leaning.
00:46:25And a block from Poole.
00:46:26LSU controls.
00:46:29Here come the Tigers.
00:46:32If Iowa were to come back, it'd be the largest in title game history.
00:46:36Morris, nice pocket pass.
00:46:39And Williams on the finish.
00:46:44Morris is so dangerous with the pull-up jumper.
00:46:46You have to help out on her.
00:46:48And she read it beautifully with that pass.
00:46:50Clark playing with three fouls.
00:46:52Clark separates.
00:46:53And knocks down another.
00:46:56The title game record 7-3 for Kaitlin Clark.
00:47:01And the Clark family enjoying the show once again.
00:47:05It's not just the deep threes, Ryan.
00:47:07It's the contested threes that she's able to hit.
00:47:11Morris in the mid-range.
00:47:13No.
00:47:14Sonano, the rebound.
00:47:16Here comes Clark ahead to Marshall.
00:47:19Clark wants it.
00:47:21Airmail that attempt.
00:47:22And Reese comes down with the rebound.
00:47:2825 for Kaitlin Clark.
00:47:30Reese.
00:47:31The spin.
00:47:32The flip.
00:47:32The denial.
00:47:33Martin couldn't get to it.
00:47:36And a travel.
00:47:37A travel is called on Morris.
00:47:40Iowa basketball.
00:47:41Amir Mortals.
00:47:42You can contest and get this close.
00:47:44And it's really hard for them to make the shot.
00:47:47This is outstanding defense by Morris.
00:47:50Hand up right there.
00:47:51Doesn't matter.
00:47:54Now, Iowa will go smaller here.
00:47:57Molly Davis comes in for Hannah Stolke.
00:48:01You see the record for Clark.
00:48:04Sonano, deep catch.
00:48:06Turn and the finish.
00:48:08Monica Sonano has made it a seven-point game.
00:48:13Tim Mulkey and LSU wanted an offensive foul.
00:48:15Sonano is also playing with three.
00:48:22And a whistle.
00:48:29Are they going to take a look at this being an unobserved foul?
00:48:33Yeah.
00:48:33Less possession where they can call a timeout and advance the basketball.
00:48:40They have two timeouts remaining.
00:48:42Yes.
00:48:44That's it.
00:48:45In a game that has suddenly tightened.
00:48:48Seven-point LSU lead.
00:48:53It was 21 earlier in the quarter.
00:48:54Williams' face-up is good.
00:48:57How about the way LaDaja Williams has answered the bell offensively in this tournament?
00:49:01Perfect compliment to Angel Reese because when Reese gets the double attention inside on the low block,
00:49:07Williams' so good from that free-throw line area.
00:49:09Money jumper.
00:49:1016 for Williams.
00:49:12Here is Martin.
00:49:14Here is Martin.
00:49:14Here is Martin.
00:49:15Getting it over to Marshall.
00:49:17Sonano wants it.
00:49:18Eyes up.
00:49:19Finds Davis.
00:49:20Davis into the paint.
00:49:22Surrounded.
00:49:22Lays it in.
00:49:24Able to avoid Reese.
00:49:25That's a huge bucket for the diminutive Molly Davis.
00:49:3371-64 LSU in front.
00:49:36You see the bench advantage.
00:49:38Morris gets a clean look.
00:49:40Can't hit.
00:49:41Reese on the offensive glass.
00:49:43So tough to stop on the interior.
00:49:49Often times before the shot has even gone up from her teammate,
00:49:52she is working to get positioning inside.
00:49:55It is remarkable.
00:49:58One of the things that Iowa hopes is on those longer misses,
00:50:02you get longer rebounds, and it takes Reese out of the equation.
00:50:05It's hidden there.
00:50:07Sonano.
00:50:09Finds Marshall.
00:50:10Five to shoot.
00:50:11Clark will.
00:50:13No.
00:50:13Rebound Martin.
00:50:14And it's knocked out of bounds off of Martin.
00:50:17LSU basketball.
00:50:20And Iowa wanted a foul on Johnson.
00:50:24Both teams understanding the importance of possessions.
00:50:27Crashing the glass offensively, defensively.
00:50:30Looked like the right call.
00:50:31Yeah, absolutely did.
00:50:33Iowa bench just got a warning following that.
00:50:38LSU a plus nine on the glass.
00:50:41Dunking side.
00:50:42Reese.
00:50:42And a foul called.
00:50:43And a foul called.
00:50:44If it's Sonano, it is her fourth.
00:50:49And it is number four on Monica Sonano.
00:50:52Great low post positioning by Angel Reese.
00:51:01Getting low, putting her hand up.
00:51:02The weak side defender, Sonano, has to come over.
00:51:05Was it technical called as well?
00:51:08I think it was.
00:51:09And that on Caitlin Clark, which is also a personal.
00:51:18A crippling possession for Iowa.
00:51:19Oh, on that.
00:51:19Oh, on that.
00:51:31So, not only will LSU get four free throw attempts in this possession, but now Iowa's two best players pick up their fourth personals on the same possession.
00:51:50A combination of language used by Caitlin Clark and the tossing of the ball is what prompted that call.
00:52:08I think you could think two things in that moment, Rebecca.
00:52:13One, you would hope there's a little more leniency given in a moment like that, given the stakes.
00:52:20Two, if you're Caitlin Clark, you probably have to be a little more careful.
00:52:25You can count both of those things.
00:52:27I've been thinking a lot of things throughout the course of this time.
00:52:31It has been tough to stomach at times for both fan bases.
00:52:39An 11-point LSU lead on Iowa with now Sonano and Clark along with Warnock on the bench with fourth foul.
00:52:46Iowa really struggled at the end of the first half.
00:52:49Big steal here from Davis.
00:52:51An 11-point LSU lead and then Davis gives it away.
00:52:55Here comes Reese, two on one.
00:52:57Reese misses the layup.
00:52:59And a loose ball foul called on Morris.
00:53:03And she went over Davis.
00:53:06That'll be number three on Alexis Morris.
00:53:19Davis backs it out.
00:53:28Marshall thought about it.
00:53:29Here comes Martin, considered the glue of this Iowa team.
00:53:33And a foul on Paul Jay Johnson.
00:53:35That'll be her first personal.
00:53:38And the 14th foul against LSU.
00:53:40If you're Iowa now, you can essentially hold for a final shot here.
00:53:50And I would think you want as few possessions as possible.
00:53:57Without Katelyn Clark on the floor?
00:53:59Without Katelyn Clark, that's right.
00:54:01I think that is a strong, strong match, Mr. Rico.
00:54:06See how Iowa plays it with a 2.8-second difference game and shot clock.
00:54:10Out to Stolke.
00:54:14Martin comes back to it.
00:54:16Katelyn Clark calls Kate Martin the greatest leader she has ever been around.
00:54:22Threw up a diehard Iowa women's basketball fan.
00:54:26Six to shoot.
00:54:27Martin on the drive.
00:54:29Can't lay it in.
00:54:30Williams the rebound.
00:54:31Surrounded.
00:54:32Two seconds left.
00:54:34Kola gets it across.
00:54:35And Reese nearly banked it in.
00:54:38That's how the third quarter will end.
00:54:41Once down 21.
00:54:43Iowa trails by 11.
00:54:45It's going to be interesting to hear from Iowa headquarters.
00:54:51And it's so critical because it's a personal.
00:54:55Yes, yes, yes, yes.
00:54:56That's why it's so big.
00:54:58So, Clark's fourth personal was that.
00:55:02Start of the fourth quarter, LSU at 11-point lead.
00:55:05Katelyn Clark's 21 points in the first half.
00:55:09That has been the biggest story for the Tigers.
00:55:11Angel Reese's offensive rebounding in that third quarter as well.
00:55:15That attacker, yes.
00:55:15Go right at Katelyn Clark.
00:55:17Go right at her.
00:55:18Martin nearly knocks it away.
00:55:20Johnson able to escape.
00:55:22And hit the jumper.
00:55:24Huge bucket for the freshman, Klai J. Johnson.
00:55:28The SEC Freshman of the Year also has a recording deal with Roc Nation.
00:55:36Here's O'Grady.
00:55:38Sonato starts the fourth on the bench with her fourth foul.
00:55:41Clark pedals away.
00:55:45Dumps it in.
00:55:46O'Grady gets hit on the arm by Williams.
00:55:49Third foul on Williams.
00:55:51And free throws here for Addison O'Grady, who's just six for 12 on the season.
00:55:56Addison O'Grady averages five minutes per game on the season so far.
00:56:01But she has been counted on in big moments in this tournament, in particular in the Final Four.
00:56:10This 40-23 Nen's Frozen Four begins Thursday at 5 and 8.30 Eastern on ESPN2.
00:56:16For more information, go to NCAA.com.
00:56:18You're home for all 90 NCAA championships.
00:56:22How the hell are you?
00:56:23Tom Lee stepping into both free throws there.
00:56:26When she first got the ball on that possession, she passed it out.
00:56:29She did not want to take the shot.
00:56:31Got a little more confident when she retouched the ball.
00:56:34Well, Deja Williams has been the one player who has been on the floor every minute for LSU.
00:56:41Kim Mulkey recruited her.
00:56:43She said, you need to stay on the floor after the injury she had dealt with earlier in her career at Missouri.
00:56:47She has William Short, rebound Clark, an opportunity here for Iowa.
00:56:53Here's Martin pushing pace.
00:56:55Martin gets some space.
00:56:57And hits the three.
00:56:58Iowa down 21 with eight minutes to go in the third.
00:57:11Had cut it to seven.
00:57:14No closer.
00:57:16Now it's back down to eight.
00:57:17Morris leaning jumper is good.
00:57:23Alexis Morris so clutch.
00:57:26So good in the midrange.
00:57:27So good in the midrange.
00:57:29Not overpowering with her size, but able to get in there and hit it.
00:57:33Clark dishes.
00:57:34Wardock in with her four fouls.
00:57:37O'Grady bounces.
00:57:38Can't click it in, but gets the whistle on Williams, and that will be her fourth.
00:57:48Alexis Morris is bouncing, especially off of the dribble.
00:57:51Just needs a little bit of a screen.
00:57:54Barely any space and can make that shot all day long.
00:57:58Both teams shooting over 50% from the floor in this game.
00:58:03As O'Grady misses the first free throws, we check in with Holly Ruff.
00:58:06Well, Alexis Morris said she stayed after their win and watched Iowa play.
00:58:11And she said, I sat in the stands, and I visualized myself doing well against them.
00:58:16What would it take?
00:58:17And she's been out there defending her you-know-what off against Caitlin Clark,
00:58:20but shining in the moments they need her most.
00:58:22Working hard.
00:58:23So hard.
00:58:23So hard, Holly, on both ends of the floor.
00:58:28Angel Reese, meanwhile, has set an NCAA record of 34th double-double,
00:58:33most in Division I history.
00:58:36Here's Morris, going to work again in the mid-range.
00:58:39He got it!
00:58:44Lead is back to 12 for LSU.
00:58:47Costly missed free throws moments ago for O'Grady.
00:58:50Warnock, can't hit the three.
00:58:52Rebound batted around.
00:58:54Clark had to be careful.
00:58:55Here comes Morris, dashing, ditching.
00:58:58Williams finishing!
00:58:59Time out, Iowa!
00:59:14Carolina and Simone Augustus, LSU royalty, a two-time national player of the year,
00:59:21has to like what she's seen from her Tigers, leading by 14 with 7-11 to go in the fourth.
00:59:26They were able to weather that Iowa storm.
00:59:28And without question, they are going to need to defend the three-point line for the rest of this game in particular.
00:59:35Sonato!
00:59:37Can't finish it.
00:59:38Got the whistle on Reese.
00:59:39And that will be number three on Angel Reese, who had to sit much of the first half with foul trouble.
00:59:50Iowa loves to run that set, a box overload set to get a direct empty pass into Monica Sonano.
00:59:56Sonano has had her minutes limited in this game.
00:59:59Just 21 minutes thanks to her foul trouble.
01:00:01Sonano, Sonano, Warnock, and Clark all playing with four for Iowa.
01:00:09LSU has LaDasia Williams with four.
01:00:13Angel Reese and Alexis Morris each with three.
01:00:15As Sonano, he's both free throws.
01:00:19LSU has been really good giving Morris a screen, letting her come off and work in her mid-range.
01:00:25And here, set to the screen with a player who has four.
01:00:29They got the switch.
01:00:30McKenna Warnock can only do so much defensively here.
01:00:33Morris has ten points, nine assists.
01:00:35Carson had 21 points in the first half.
01:00:38Reese wants it.
01:00:40Using the jab step, Reese nuzzles in and finishes.
01:00:43Angel Reese with 15 points, 10 rebounds.
01:00:54A 14-point lead for LSU.
01:00:56And Clark's three won't count.
01:00:58An offensive foul on Sonano.
01:01:01And she has fouled out.
01:01:03An illegal screen called as Sonano fouls out.
01:01:08And that will be the end of the incredible career for Monica Sonano.
01:01:17Came in with unreal expectations, having to replace Megan Gustafson, the legend in the post for the Hawkeyes.
01:01:26And Sonano was able to meet the moment over and over again in her five-year career.
01:01:32It's a young woman.
01:01:35It's been so fun to watch her play the post position.
01:01:38Makes the difficult look easy and routine.
01:01:44So Sonano fouls out.
01:01:48And now Iowa tries to survive without her.
01:01:52Morris has other plans.
01:01:55Lead is back to 16.
01:01:57What a dime from Clark.
01:01:59And Warnock able to finish.
01:02:00Clark with 25 points, 7 assists.
01:02:13Marshall nearly came up with a steal.
01:02:15Here's Reese backing it out.
01:02:17Smart decision.
01:02:18Use clock.
01:02:21Here's Morris on the attack.
01:02:24Has it poked from behind out of bounds.
01:02:25And 6 to shoot for LSU.
01:02:30Alexis Morris here off the handoff.
01:02:33We've been talking about it all game.
01:02:35Her ability in the mid-range.
01:02:37Great elevation on the shot.
01:02:40LSU has five different players in double figures.
01:02:43And outside the paint where they struggled so mightily at times in this tournament.
01:02:51They are shooting 65% today.
01:02:55Reese barrels in.
01:02:57Knocked away by O'Grady.
01:02:59And 2.8 to shoot for the Tigers.
01:03:02LSU has not made a three-point shot in the second half.
01:03:05In the first half, they were unstoppable from outside.
01:03:07And here in the second, they've been able to go to other things.
01:03:10Morris on the mid-range.
01:03:11Angel Reese on the offensive boards.
01:03:14And they've only taken two in the second half.
01:03:16After they hit 9 of 12, Morris gets fouled by Davis.
01:03:20And Alexis Morris is going to go to the line to shoot two.
01:03:23Think about her impact, Ryan.
01:03:27Not just on the offensive end, but on the defensive end as well.
01:03:30And when Zinano got called for that fifth foul, Morris was on, sitting on the floor,
01:03:37looking at her teammates going, five.
01:03:38That's five on her.
01:03:39She knows how hard she has worked on both ends.
01:03:41Oh, Morris did a lot of after shooting two.
01:03:46Sweep that ankle there as Morris goes to the line.
01:03:50Alexis Morris played for Kim Mulkey at Baylor.
01:03:54Her freshman year was kicked off the team.
01:03:59Then had stops at Rutgers, where she thought she may never end up playing basketball again.
01:04:04Texas A&M.
01:04:05And then came back to Kim Mulkey, this time at LSU.
01:04:12And Mulkey has been what Morris needed.
01:04:15And Morris has been what Mulkey needed.
01:04:24Remember, this is just the second year for Kim Mulkey since taking over a nine-win program.
01:04:33Clark.
01:04:35Trying to get it to O'Grady.
01:04:37Knocked out of bounds by Reese, who is so active defensively.
01:04:43And Clark has not made a field goal since 3.51 to go in the third.
01:04:52Clark separates and knocks down a three.
01:04:55She heard your eye.
01:05:0128 for Kaitlin Clark, her eighth three of the championship game.
01:05:09LSU has been able to still get buckets on this end.
01:05:13Morris running more clock.
01:05:15Working with Reese, Reese leans in, can't finish.
01:05:22Nice job by O'Grady.
01:05:23Here comes Clark.
01:05:24Clark trying to lead.
01:05:26Warnock unable to save it.
01:05:29And Iowa misses a golden opportunity there.
01:05:32Kenton Clark trying to shoot the team back into it on the previous possession.
01:05:39Comes off the screen and steps into the deep one.
01:05:45Probably unnecessary.
01:05:47That ball just needed a little more bite to it off the pass.
01:05:50So, McKenna Warnock could get there.
01:05:53Instead of a layup to cut it to 11, it's a turnover.
01:06:00And LSU with the basketball leading by 13.
01:06:04Morris looking behind Reese.
01:06:06The midrange is open again for Morris.
01:06:13Clark will fire.
01:06:16Can't hit.
01:06:17Rebound Carson.
01:06:19LSU firmly in control.
01:06:21Morris able to shake Marshall.
01:06:25Carson wide open.
01:06:27No.
01:06:29Rebound knocked out of bounds.
01:06:30Morris unable to save it.
01:06:33It hit out of bounds.
01:06:34And it's going to be Iowa basketball.
01:06:36Too early.
01:06:37Too early.
01:06:38The clock is still your friend, LSU.
01:06:40Use it.
01:06:43Caitlin Clark has been on this unbelievable run.
01:06:46Does Iowa have one more left in her?
01:06:48As Clark lays it in.
01:06:50Her first two-point field goal of the game.
01:06:53Caitlin Clark.
01:06:55Another 30-point performance.
01:06:57All you have to do with your LSU is blind clock and then get an on-ball screen for Morris to work in the midrange.
01:07:04Go on the flex.
01:07:04Go, go, go, go, go, go.
01:07:05Go, go.
01:07:07Go, go.
01:07:07Go, go, go.
01:07:12Go, go.
01:07:12Go, go, go.
01:07:13Go, go, go, go.
01:07:14Go, go.
01:07:15Re pues facing up.
01:07:17Little hook shot.
01:07:18Won't go.
01:07:19Knocked around.
01:07:20Go, go, go, go.
01:07:20Williams has it.
01:07:21Williams able to finish.
01:07:24LSU overwhelming Iowa on the interior.
01:07:27Go, go, go.
01:07:28Go, go.
01:07:29Martin gets a clean look. Can't hit. Warnock. Trying to go up with it. Reefs the initial denial. But then the follow is good for McKenna Warnock.
01:07:4493-80. LSU in front.
01:07:50And that is going to be a 10-second violation.
01:07:53A 10-second violation on LSU. And they turn it over to Iowa.
01:08:03Kim Mulkey giving Alexis Morris an earful. Yes, use clock, but once you get it over the timeline.
01:08:09Use 9 seconds over here. And then the rest of it. And 20 over here.
01:08:16Kim Mulkey is trying to get a sub in Kateri Poole. Poole will come and get Carson.
01:08:23Remember, Carson started for much of this season. And then Poole recently inserted into the starting lineup.
01:08:30And now, Kim Mulkey is going to take a timeout.
01:08:36LSU will have just one remaining.
01:08:40Carson so much. And Kim Mulkey, everything she touches turns to gold, including every outfit she wears.
01:08:50Perfect punctuation, Holly Rowe.
01:08:5393-80. LSU in front of Iowa.
01:08:562.57 to go in this fourth.
01:08:59Do the Hawkeyes have one last punch left in them?
01:09:02They cut it to eight earlier in the quarter.
01:09:04Seven at one point in the third.
01:09:06Clark caught it tightly by Morris.
01:09:08Clark has had to navigate with four fouls.
01:09:11Tsunano is fouled out.
01:09:13O'Grady with Martin hitting the deck.
01:09:16Clark trying to find some space.
01:09:18Lean short.
01:09:19Tsunano is fouled short.
01:09:20Rebound goes off of Poole.
01:09:22And it's going to stay here with Iowa.
01:09:24Because of the foul trouble, the one area of Caitlin Clark's game that has been limited is her dribble penetration.
01:09:29Oftentimes, you see her coming off the screen or curling off the screen, putting the ball on the floor and going in aggressively.
01:09:34She hasn't been able to do that with the fouls.
01:09:38Clark calling for it.
01:09:40Has it.
01:09:41Morris up in her space.
01:09:43Clark through the lane.
01:09:44Nice delivery.
01:09:45And O'Grady lays it in.
01:09:4711-point game.
01:09:48How does Iowa pressure defensively here, knowing Warnock and Clark both have four.
01:09:57And you have just a little more than two minutes to go.
01:10:03Most important thing for Iowa in this possession will be to box out and not allow a French shot clock on an offensive rebound.
01:10:10Morris into the paint, leaning, and hitting!
01:10:16Alexis Morris trying to take LSU to the finish line.
01:10:21Clark turns it over.
01:10:23Not a good decision there from Caitlin Clark.
01:10:3016 second-half points for Alexis Morris.
01:10:33And a foul there from Warnock.
01:10:40That is her fifth.
01:10:44No answer.
01:10:45No answer for Alexis Morris.
01:10:47Whether it's her pull-up or the floater there, we've seen her drop dimes.
01:10:53And everybody at the BMAC enjoying what they're seeing from Alexis Morris and the LSU Tigers.
01:10:59Warnock to the bench.
01:11:00A key cog at Iowa's starting five.
01:11:04She has one year of eligibility left.
01:11:12Most points scored in a national championship game.
01:11:16That record is very much in peril.
01:11:19As Marshall applies the foul on Morris.
01:11:25LSU has struggled shooting free throws this season.
01:11:29The 14 of 19 today.
01:11:3470% on the season.
01:11:37That's 225th in Division I.
01:11:40Morris with three chasing her.
01:11:43Close it to Poole.
01:11:44Poole evades the foul.
01:11:47Davis trying to apply it.
01:11:48Cannot.
01:11:49Angel Reese with four to shoot.
01:11:52Poole going for the dagger.
01:11:53You bet.
01:11:58Kim Mulkey knows the celebration is imminent.
01:12:05Most points in a championship game.
01:12:08A group of nine new players.
01:12:34less than a minute away from LSU's first ever championship.
01:12:41And Angel Reese knows a ring is coming.
01:13:01The Maryland transfer has thrived at LSU.
01:13:13And basically everybody who has touched the floor today for the Tigers has made a big contribution.
01:13:23Coming into this game, you would think,
01:13:25all right, LSU to win the championship against Iowa will have to rely on their defense.
01:13:29And their defense was solid.
01:13:30But wow, what an offensive performance.
01:13:32And she is just a junior who is not WNBA draft eligible.
01:13:43So you will get at least one more year of Caitlin Clark as a Hawkeye.
01:13:46Has certainly become the sport's biggest star.
01:13:52Martin lets it fly and knocks down the three.
01:13:57Kate Martin, her career at Iowa will end as well.
01:14:02Both of these teams in a national championship game for the very first time in program history.
01:14:12Iowa not fouling.
01:14:18Williams will back it out.
01:14:22Morris will let it fly.
01:14:24Why not?
01:14:25It's been that kind of night for the LSU Tigers.
01:14:29That three rims out.
01:14:41LSU has it.
01:14:46Morris has to get it across.
01:14:48Kim Mulkey, in year two, has orchestrated a turnaround for the ages.
01:14:55LSU has captured its very first national championship.
01:15:02LSU has captured its very first national championship.
