Rescue operations underway after deadly Texas flooding

Trees are toppled over and heavy debris in central Texas is making it difficult to find survivors following a deadly storm this weekend.

00:00AccuWeather partner CNN News Source correspondent Lee Waldman is in central Texas with more information.

00:06Lee, just describe the current state of rescue operations and what's going on there.

00:15So we're outside of Camp Mystic now and the sun is starting to rise here in central Texas

00:21and we're finally starting to see some of the cabins off in the distance.

00:25You might be able to also hear the river as it's flowing.

00:28This river rose so much it reached those cabins there to the tops of those cabin roofs.

00:34We heard from Governor Greg Abbott yesterday who toured some of those cabins

00:38and saw the belongings, beds, things like that strewn about inside of those cabins there.

00:44It's hard to even fathom where we are and where the river level is now,

00:49how much water actually inundated this area.

00:52I want to, if we can pan over to the other side to show you the destruction that happened to the trees in this area.

00:59And you can see those trees are nearly toppled over.

01:02There is a rocky bottom in this area over here that was filled with rescue workers yesterday

01:09searching through all that debris, trying to find the missing campers and the missing counselors at this point,

01:16trying to find all those who are missing.

01:17We know that there's 27 people still missing, and even when it was dark out,

01:22we saw nearly half a dozen state trooper vehicles leaving Camp Mystic,

01:26followed by another half dozen rescue workers who were starting their operations before the sun started coming up.

01:33It is nonstop here, trying to get some of those parents some good news today.
