This empty paddock, 50 metres from homes, now protected from becoming a $33 million
00:09
club with 160 poker machines.
00:12
It was enormous. The actual aspect of the development was overlooking, I mean the windows
00:18
faced and looked basically onto our house.
00:23
The NSW Government Planning Panel refused Vikings Group's proposal last week. It cited
00:29
concerns around noise management and the negative effects of building a 3 metre high sound wall.
00:35
I mean we already get sound noises coming from the service station and McDonalds and everything,
00:41
which you can tolerate up to a certain point. This was going to be ongoing until 3 o'clock in the morning.
00:47
The refusal came a week after the Queenbeyan-Pallaring Regional Council recommended against the plan.
00:53
The Terrabamba Residents Association is not necessarily opposed to a club development within our community.
00:59
What we would like to see is a value proposition presented to our community.
01:07
The Vikings Group already owns four clubs in the ACT and in a statement the Chief Executive
01:12
expressed disappointment over the decision to refuse a fifth, saying there had been more than 160 submissions in support.
01:19
But the club may not walk away and is exploring potential next steps.
01:23
I don't think it's over. Depends on how much money gets pushed around. I mean we're grateful that we've now got two determinations,
01:31
one from the Council and one from Regional Planning NSW and hopefully that gives us a little bit of peace for a little while,
01:39
but I can see that this is not going to end here.
01:41
Relief for these residents for now. Emily Anderson, ABC News, Canberra.
