President Trump’s Truth Social launched its new “Patriot Package” streaming bundle over Independence Day, offering users access to live channels like Newsmax and OANN, on-demand content, and exclusive features like a red verification check and Truth+ badge. Framed as a move toward building an “uncancellable by Big Tech” ecosystem, the package is currently in beta and marketed as premium early access. The red checkmark is designed to give subscribers greater visibility on the platform by boosting their comment rankings.

But despite the rollout’s patriotic timing, reaction from users has been mixed. While some have praised the content, others have criticized the confusing sign-up process, unclear pricing, and the idea of charging for a beta test. Many were particularly turned off by the commercialization of the July 4th holiday. Still, the controversy may have served a purpose — as Trump himself wrote in The Art of the Deal, “Controversy, in short, sells."

00:00President Trump's Truth Social just launched a new streaming package for Independence Day,
00:04but some users say it's just not worth it. It's called the Patriot Package, a premium Truth Plus
00:11streaming program currently offering early access to their beta program. The package includes access
00:17to premium live channels such as Real America's Voice, Newsmax, and One America News Network.
00:23You'll also be able to enjoy an extended catalog of on-demand content and documentaries from
00:29CuriosityStream. The announcement states it's part of a bigger effort to create a media ecosystem
00:34that's, quote, uncancellable by big tech. Plus, subscribers are first on the list to receive a
00:39red verification check and a new Truth Plus badge on the platform. And those red check marks mean
00:45your comments are prioritized higher on the platform, essentially giving more visibility
00:49to those who subscribe. But not everyone has been thrilled with this rollout. According to a poll on
00:55Truth Social, at least 600 users have signed up for the Patriot Package, with another 400 expected
01:01to sign up soon. Unfortunately for those who have subscribed, it hasn't been a pleasant experience.
01:07One user explained, I've gone round and round in circles trying to sign up for this,
01:12not worth it. While others were confused around how the beta works, and some are just appalled by the
01:17platform using Independence Day to run a marketing campaign. But amongst all the sign-up chaos,
01:25with new check marks and badges next to their names, and praise for the content that's available.
01:31So whether it's a bold step towards building an uncancellable big tech platform, or a clunky
01:35rollout that left users frustrated, the Patriot Package has definitely sparked attention.
01:40And maybe that's the point, because as Trump once wrote in The Art of the Deal,
01:44good publicity is preferable to bad, but from a bottom line perspective,
01:48bad publicity is sometimes better than no publicity at all. Controversy in short sales.
