00:00This is the home of the 39 year old male who was fatally shot by police yesterday evening in the tiny town of Daisy Hill here in central Victoria.
00:11The shooting actually took place across the road on his neighbour's property.
00:15What we know so far is that police were called in at 3pm yesterday following multiple reports of gunshots being fired.
00:22That included an elderly man who reported he'd been shot at and narrowly missed.
00:27Police then spent hours attempting to de-escalate the situation but around 10pm the man reportedly emerged from a shed on that property.
00:36He'd been hiding in and began shooting at police before being shot and killed himself.
00:41There's still many unknowns but we heard from Assistant Commissioner Michael Granger earlier today.
00:47We understand obviously the community is incredibly concerned about instances like this.
00:52This is something no police officer certainly wants to be involved in when they're at work.
00:59I spoke with Susan Maguire and Gary Golt earlier who lived next door to the place where the shooting took place and they said they were in complete shock.
01:08They said they'd heard a commotion yesterday afternoon and shouting throughout the evening but nothing of particular concern given that this is farming country.
01:16It was just unusual for the police to be there after hearing gunshots because it's a farming area.
01:24Yeah we hear guns all the time because they're always shooting foxes and that round here.
01:28Yeah.
01:29Yeah.
01:30So it was sort of like no biggie but we knew that then there must be something else going on behind the scenes you know that we didn't know about.
01:40Given the proximity of their property to where the shooting unfolded they were evacuated at around 8pm last night.
01:47They returned at around 10 when everything had finished up but it wasn't until this morning when they were watching the news that they said they heard that their neighbour had in fact been fatally shot by police.
01:58Here on scene now forensics are still here and the investigation remains ongoing.
02:02Everything will be referred to the professional standards command as is customary for when a police, fatal police shooting takes place.
02:10Alling that basically acts like guns and all deprecation happens in Josie's
02:28Ones.
02:29Even our friends and at once some people know how things like these guys can be trekketic when this event is disneyed.
