00:00I know that families send us their best every day at school and I want to be able to give them my
00:08best and a big part of that is making kids feel connected, making kids feel seen, and making kids
00:15feel valued. We have something at school called Fist Bump Friday and where I talk about like if
00:28you hold out your hand you have these individuals and they're weak by themselves but it's stronger
00:34together so we talk about being stronger together so when I think about a fist bump or when I think
00:39about a high five it is that idea of being seen and it's not just a celebration it's not just good
00:44job it's I'm here for you it's hey I know you're going through a tough time right now I'm in your
00:49corner and and sometimes that means I'm having a tough conversation with a kid that does require
00:56discipline but as they leave my office I'll give them a fist bump say hey I'm still here for you
01:01I don't look at you any differently behind every every kid there's a story and there's a story and
01:07I don't know what they're going through but my goal is just to let them know hey when you show up I'm
01:11going to be here for you through the good times and through the bad times as well people reach out to
01:16me with direct messages and they'll be like they're they're grown adults and they'll be like when I was
01:21in school that is all I needed if I got that one fist bump if I got that one high five my whole life
01:27could have turned out differently my goal as a principal is to create a school where kids want
01:33to be a place that staff want to be as well and then a place that families trust and are proud to
01:39send their kids in education you hear a lot about test scores and how schools are doing academically but
01:45I wanted people to see schools a little bit from the inside out and maybe transform
01:49the way people look at school
