00:30Presented by the growing influx of Haitian women in labour, these structural precarious
00:34conditions were compounded by a chronic shortage of medical supplies.
00:38In recent years, births to foreign mothers in the La Alta Grazia and Los Mina maternity
00:43wards represented between 47% and 52% respectively.
00:48Nationwide, births to Haitians represent an average of 35% of the national total, placing
00:54unsustainable pressure on hospital resources.
00:57After a thorough renovation, the maternity wards now have spacious operating rooms, intensive
01:03care units and modern laboratories, even equipped with state-of-the-art technology such as MRIs
01:08and ultrasound machines.
01:10The old collective wards have been replaced by single rooms with monitors, essential amenities
01:16and private bathrooms shared by only two patients.
01:19The entrances to the inpatient areas are now impeccable, well lit, signposted and in compliance
01:25with the most demanding standards.
01:28Emergency protocols guarantee a swift response in critical cases, eliminating extreme situations
01:33such as births on the floor due to lack of beds.
01:37The optimisation of resources, coupled with the reduction in the flow of foreign mothers,
01:42has made it possible to expand the care facilities for Dominican women.
01:46This comprehensive transformation not only dignifies the act of giving life, but also ensures humane
01:52and technically optimal treatment for mother and newborn.
