00:00Welcome to Pompey's Hilsey training base, the Pompey Health and Fitness Centre, where

00:06we are watching Pompey's first day of pre-season training, here anyway, after a change of venue

00:13last week up into the Tennington area and some earlier testing. Lots to look at and

00:20see and observe, Neil, and what are your opening observations here?

00:24Well, actually, we can't actually see, but over there is Boat running there, so he's

00:30obviously not with the full team yet, but he's working with Max Whittingham, the strength

00:34and conditioning coach, on his own, so clearly he's progressing towards fitness, but not in

00:39full training yet, so it's been brilliant to see him out there as well. And then, yes,

00:43you've got the team here, so I counted earlier, 18 players plus 5 goalkeepers are all training

00:50today, so, yeah, including Adrian Segatic for the first time. What did you make of him?

00:55Yeah, Seg, oh, well, nicely led into that one, Neil. Adrian Segatic, obviously the sole new

01:01face so far, and he is looking live, he's looking sharp, and...

01:05They always do that, they're new players.

01:06Yeah, yes, yes, funny enough, but...

01:08Like a manager, a new manager never gives a bad first press conference.

01:11Really interesting, speaking to some people that know Adrian, they said he was coming in

01:14on a mission, he was going to probably target one of the roughest, pick out the roughest, toughest

01:18player, and make a beeline for him to make an impression to show that he's not here to

01:22mess around, and look out if the likes of Conor Shock, Nessie, or one or two others have

01:28a battle, Regan Paul Bratz, with Segatic here, but he's looked lively. What we've seen so far

01:33is some jogging, then they've gone into some ball work, sort of in some grids, where they

01:38had a floating player, they were doing passing, and it was all short and sharp. I think Segatic's

01:42group got to about 40-odd passes, I was counting earlier, and now they've got into a kind of an

01:468v8 on a small space, kind of moved the pitch down there, and it was like half a pitch,

01:51and then they've just moved into an even smaller space now. So any standouts for you from the

01:56players that you've been watching so far, Neil?

01:58No, not really. I mean, you see these training sessions, and it's all, it's just got the short

02:02and sharp, aren't they? And it's interesting how they're rotating the pitch as well. So, first

02:07of all, they've warmed up on this pitch, then they were doing short-sided games on this pitch,

02:10then they've gone back to this pitch, so they're rotating the pitches as well. But it's good

02:15to see it.

02:16The injured lads out there?

02:17Yeah.

02:18Jacob Farrell, I was saying that Reuben Swan, who's been obviously out on loan for a year

02:22at Havon-Worfe-Louville, he's come back a man, he's really bulked up now, isn't he? And I

02:28know he spoke to Shaw North a few times during his time there at Wesley Park, and he said he's

02:33got to improve his fitness and get better and become physically stronger. And you can see that

02:37already. So, Jacob Farrell's out there, Hayden Matthews is out there.

02:41Waddingham's there as well. So, a lot of the injured players are out there as well, we can

02:45see today, which is really encouraging. Especially Farrell, who's had a torrid time with injury,

02:49isn't he?

02:50I mean, what comes across to me with Jacob Farrell is, he's probably about six foot one,

02:54he's, you know, looks physically really a decent size, and obviously it's a massive season

02:59with just that one game against Sheffield United last time, there's Conor Schott, and there's

03:02a game, a shot saved at point-blank range by Schmidt.

03:05Oh, another one, he's grown. I mean, I know it sounds silly, because, you know, people

03:09grow as a 20, 21-year-old. But you look at him now, and he's grown, we did see a lot

03:14of him, but we saw a little of him. But he just looks a bit, bought out completely now,

03:18isn't he? Yeah, so it's just interesting to see the players, because we don't often see

03:22Pompey train unless it's a pre-season tour, do we? So, a lot of the supporters, we don't

03:26see them train when we come down all the time to speak to John Massino, we don't watch

03:29training. So it's always fascinating to see the players out there taking part.

03:34Just, yeah, it's one or two sartorial bits here. Ben Killett was a clear winner of haircut

03:39of the season last season with that main, but we can see that Hayden Matthews might be in

03:43contention there. Looks like he'd come back with a bit of a mullet, fitting the Australian

03:48stereotype there. I've not seen too much other new barnets and bits and pieces.

03:53Yeah, and obviously Connor Ogilvie's got a new haircut.

03:58But no, it's interesting. There's 18 outfield players, as I was saying, so you see Murphy's

04:06out there. Always has his shorts pulled up really short, doesn't he, Murphy? And Colby Bishop

04:11and Marlon Papp there for another season. So, yeah, it's good to see a lot of players out

04:15there.

04:16Perhaps a little bit of a blessing too, Neil, that the temperature's, I mean, it's 36 degrees

04:20out in Slovakia at the moment. I think the temperature might be dropping us slightly next week. But

04:25obviously, after the heat of yesterday's hottest day of the year, it's not so inhospitable for

04:31the players, isn't it? It's broken a bit. And just as well, too, because they're going through

04:34their paces, they're having a double session today.

04:36Yes, exactly. And obviously, we'll probably fly out to Slovakia on Friday. Sorry, sorry,

04:41Saturday. And we're going to be on the tour as well. We're flying out there on the Monday

04:45and for the rest of the week as well. So we'll have plenty more videos and content from there

04:51near Bratislava base.

05:00week goes on, even though there's no game. Pompey are brilliant. They give us great access and
