Daniel Wales looks at the latest Bristol Rovers transfer news.
Transcript
00:00Now for Bristol Rovers, obviously they're going to want to ensure that they continue to bounce back
00:07and make sure that Daryl Clark has that promotion experience and utilises it again with Bristol Rovers.
00:14The club really had a great tenure in, you know, 10 years or so ago.
00:19I mean, in terms of the transfer business, it's a big window.
00:22It's a window where they have to make sure they do sort of clear out a few free agents
00:27and they get some real clever signings in to ensure that they are right bouncing back up.
00:33You know, at the end of the day, they don't want to be anywhere nearly to come 12 months from now.
00:38They want to be making sure they're preparing for another League One season
00:41and hopefully it can all go to plan for Daryl Clark and his side.
00:45Now, you know, the transfer window is still ticking on and the contracts are there
00:50and the retain lists are there.
00:53For Bristol Rovers, we're going to our correspondent, Dan.
00:55Dan, what do you think Bristol Rovers need?
00:58What can you sort of tell us about where they are in terms of this window?
01:02How they're viewing it?
01:03How they're going about their business?
01:04Is it sort of continuing from previous windows?
01:07Have they changed any strategies now that they have been relegated?
01:10And then they might need to change a few plans to make sure they go straight back up
01:14because, you know, Daryl Clark has come to a side where, you know,
01:17he could probably punch way above Bristol Rovers' weight, let's be honest.
01:20But surely something's enticed them to come back and there's a bit of a plan
01:24and a project to get them back to League One.
01:27So, Dan, what are your thoughts ahead of this window
01:30and how it's sort of panning out for Bristol Rovers ahead of the new campaign?
01:34Well, Charles, Bristol Rovers are certainly responding in the best way
01:37they possibly can to being relegated from League One last season
01:40under Inigo Calderon.
01:42In the transfer market so far, they've been very busy indeed.
01:45They're not resting on their laurels.
01:47Daryl Clark, the head coach, his new assistants, Rhys Carr and Johnstead
01:51and, of course, director Ricky Martin, very much pushing their weight about
01:55in the transfer market so far and getting deals done.
01:58You've had Alfie Kilgore come back, Josh McCreachan.
02:03He's just come to the club as well.
02:05Brad Young, goalkeeper.
02:06So, plenty of things happening in McCauley Southern Hills as well.
02:09So, lots of players coming in to the quarters
02:12and looking forward to also them playing at the Memorial Stadium as well
02:16in the new season, which, of course, gets underway in August.
02:19And I think they had to be busy because a lot of the players
02:23who finished last season were completely back out of form,
02:26looked unhappy and the club just needed a reset, if we're brutally honest.
02:31So, I think they had to be busy and busy quick in the transfer market as well
02:36and they've certainly done that as well.
02:38I think a lot of people could possibly argue that
02:40their most important piece of transfer business
02:43was bringing in Darrell Clark to replace Calderon
02:46because he's someone who knows the club inside out,
02:48has been there before, been successful with them before,
02:51but also had down experiences with them too,
02:53so knows what it's like to both succeed and fail with the club.
02:56So, that's probably a positive and something certainly
02:58that he's probably learned from
03:00and the club can also learn from it
03:02and learn together with each other as well.
03:04So, all in all, they had to be busy to just get that reset in.
03:10And I think that Bristol Rovers certainly are anticipating
03:13having a successful season in League 2.
03:15Yes, it's a bit of a drop-off in terms of quality,
03:18but they'll probably be wanting to bring in players,
03:19and I think they have brought in players so far,
03:21who not only can play in League 2,
03:24but also are good enough then to make that step back up to League 1
03:27if they should reach that via promotion
03:29at the end of the season to come.
03:31And that's, of course, the aim of Daryl Clark and Ricky Martin.
03:34They've expressed quite publicly that they demand
03:37high standards of the players who are coming into the club
03:40and certainly Daryl Clark himself on the training pitch,
03:42along with his two new assistants,
03:44he'll demand standards too.
03:45He'll make sure that Bristol Rovers are not slacking it off
03:48at all throughout the season
03:49and that they're successful
03:50and that they're honest and respectful as well.
03:52I think this has all been said out in the open.
03:55He's made this very clear about the club and what he wants
03:57in terms of the ethos at Bristol Rovers.
03:59It's now just about enacting that.
04:01And the only worry is, of course,
04:02with lots of new players coming in,
04:04how fast do they take to set lane,
04:06to gel with each other
04:07and to get them playing in the right way
04:09under the way Daryl Clark wants them to play.
04:11But you'd have to think that by bringing them in early,
04:14which they have done so far,
04:16yes, more will probably come in as well,
04:17but those who have come in already,
04:18by bringing them in early
04:19before pre-season realistically gets underway,
04:22gives them a bit of time to bed in
04:24and also get going as well
04:26and enjoy Bristol and the city
04:28and get to know the place
04:29and just their new living accommodation
04:32and arrangements as well,
04:33which can help the player feel a lot more settled.
04:35So lots to look ahead to
04:37and for Bristol Rovers,
04:39but they're certainly being very active
04:41in the transfer markets at present
04:43under Daryl Clark.
