00:00We used to be at Shivpuri, Ibrahampuri, Kauriala, Kanataal.
00:05These are all places ahead of Rishikesh.
00:07Then even at Chopta, Kedarnath, as you would wind higher up on the hills.
00:12And it was a very distinct and repeated experience.
00:17Especially the Upanishads would appear so straightforward, so commonsensical, so intuitively true.
00:26After midnight, in total darkness, on the banks of the Ganga, up on the hills.
00:32I'm not talking of the Ganga of the Rishikesh Ghats, up on the hills.
00:35With not even a single dot of light around.
00:39I'm talking of electricity.
00:41No man-made light or sound, nothing.
00:46Total darkness, clear canopy, only the stars and the moon, possibly some fog.
00:51And there is the Ganga and the sound of the flow.
00:54And you sit besides her, with your little lanterns, right on the sand, not on chairs.
01:00And it became so much easier for me to teach in those moments.
01:05And those who have learnt from me, there, in those days, in those moments after midnight.
01:11They just learnt.
01:12I could impart more to them than I probably can in this high-tech setting.
