00:00Hello everyone, welcome back to Blender. Now if you've just seen me, I've just downloaded a new version of Blender.
00:06It's version 4.4.3. Now I told you I'll be making a streetlight, so that's what I'll be doing.
00:13So I'd like to show you the tools from scratch, just in case you don't know.
00:16We started the screen with basically a simple box.
00:19Now of course, if you haven't moved it to the middle of the screen, just click on it like this and just drag it to the middle of the screen and leave it.
00:26OK, so just drag it, that's what you have to do. I'll be using a mouse from the laptop.
00:30Now what we want to do, we want to, as I said, we'll make it a streetlight, so we want to click on the top of it.
00:36Ideally you want to scale and zoom in, just click the mouse and zoom in. If you haven't got a mouse, just use that.
00:42Just click it, hold it and drag it. Here go to Scale, go inside the circle and scale it.
00:48Just scale it down, it's quite small, click this, move it up, put it somewhere in the middle of the box.
00:54Put it somewhere in the middle of the box. Go back to Scale and scale it back out to the edges. Approximately about big as that.
01:03Now the reason why Talia is making it as big as that, is because that's an Emma Bee Cube.
01:08And if you bring in my game character, you'll notice that that's too big for Emma, because Emma's only age 1, and she's also age 12 at the moment.
01:18But she grows up through the game world, and obviously I want the items to interact with the character.
01:23I will be scaling the lampposts after to the actual character.
01:27Not for when she's younger, for when she's like age 12, so I can kind of get a rough idea of how I find the screen lighters.
01:34First of all, first things first. What you want to do is take the box.
01:39Now, what you want to do here, is I'm going to zoom into it, and I'm going to scale it down a little bit more.
01:47Not that far. Just scale it down and up a square, so we've got one square there.
01:53Click this, and snap it up. So we've got one square at the bottom. Go into wireframe.
02:00I'm only doing this just so it's got a bit of platform, so it's doing the stand button.
02:04Click here. Click off it. So we're going to points.
02:08If it's in full wireframe world, you can select them.
02:11It selects the back and the front ones. Go to extrude.
02:15Extrude it, and leave it.
02:18It's pretty easy, pretty simple.
02:21If you take this, snap this up if you want to.
02:24Just snap it to there.
02:26Leave it like that.
02:27Now of course, the idea of this, is so we can take this.
02:30Go back into scale.
02:32Go here, scale.
02:34Scale this in.
02:36To about...
02:38Yeah, about there.
02:40Leave roughly about three on that side, about three on that side.
02:43Just go around it, making sure it's kind of the same or round it.
02:47Yep, I'm kind of happy with that.
02:50Now of course, what I'm going to tell you to do here.
02:53I'm going to take it to click this.
02:55Now, really this probably doesn't matter what we're doing it.
02:58But this is how we do it.
02:59Zoom back in.
03:00Scale it back out, so it touches the edges.
03:03You have to do it roughly.
03:05Scale it up.
03:07So I just push it up.
03:09Go to extrude.
03:11And extrude it back down.
03:13Okay, now it looks a bit like a cone on the side of the road.
03:18Okay, this is going to be the base plate for our lights.
03:23So, our lights are going to be like an old kind of fashion kind of light.
03:27But yeah, it's got a big base plate.
03:30Obviously, you wouldn't have the base plate as big as that really.
03:33You'd have it probably skinnier than that.
03:35But yeah, anyway.
03:36I'm going to have mine probably like that.
03:39You don't want it too small because you don't want to trip over it.
03:42You don't want it too big because you don't want to bang your foot on it.
03:45Because yeah, if you bang your foot on that, it's going to hurt.
03:48I think in here.
03:50Yeah, we could make it smaller than that.
03:52Just in case you actually do catch it with your foot.
03:54So, anyway.
03:55It's up to you.
03:56If you want to make it smaller, then of course, just go back into the wireframe.
04:01Zoom into it.
04:03Go back into it.
04:04Of course, look at the squares.
04:06Just select these squares.
04:08Just select them.
04:09Go here.
04:10Move it.
04:11If it's too big, move it down to approximately about two squares.
04:14Maybe three squares.
04:16Just kind of eyeball it and have a look at it.
04:19It looks like that now.
04:21So, yeah.
04:22It's not too big.
04:23It's not too skinny.
04:24And you're not going to really catch your foot on it.
04:27Well, you will.
04:28Oh, yeah.
04:29Anywhere you get the idea.
04:30First, we're going to bevel the edges of this.
04:33Click on the line tool.
04:35Now, we've got to hold your power key.
04:37Let's start on the keyboard.
04:38Press that.
04:39Press that.
04:40Press that.
04:41Press that one over there.
04:42Press this one over here.
04:43Turn it around.
04:45Press this one.
04:46Press this one.
04:47Take it around.
04:48Press this one.
04:49Make sure you get all the edges.
04:50Kind of go to the side with you.
04:51Zoom it a little bit.
04:52Just look at one of the sides.
04:53That's on the left side.
04:54It doesn't really matter.
04:55Ok, go to here.
04:56Extrude.
04:57Now, you want to push this upwards.
04:58Ok, so you don't push it up.
04:59You pull it down.
05:00When you pull it down.
05:01When you pull it down.
05:02When you pull the bar.
05:03Pull it down roughly about a square.
05:04Like that.
05:05And now what you want to do is go here.
05:06And just kind of.
05:07Just put about two on it.
05:08Maybe three.
05:09It will give you a nice kind of round edge.
05:10Anyway.
05:11You just put a nice edge on it for you.
05:13So, that way.
05:14When you are walking down the street.
05:15It doesn't really have a sharp corner.
05:16Not really.
05:17It does.
05:18But not much of one.
05:19I think in here.
05:20As I say.
05:21Well, we don't even have that.
05:22Of course.
05:23We could do the same here.
05:24To make it a big angle.
05:25Not to make it a big angle.
05:26Well, we'll see the same here.
05:27As I say.
05:28We'll have a big angle here.
05:29So, that way.
05:30When you do the same here.
05:31To make it an edge.
05:32Like that.
05:33Like that.
05:34And now what you want to do is go here.
05:36And just kind of.
05:37Just put about two on it.
05:38Maybe three.
05:39It will give you a nice round edge.
05:40Like that.
05:41Anyway.
05:42sail here to make it look a bit nicer. As I said I'm showing you the tools that's what I'm doing
05:47and I'm showing you the lamppost. Click here, hold it up again, press that, press that. Turn around, press that, press that.
05:56Make sure you press this one. Back to the side view, zoom back in. Just grab this one, pull it up and push it down.
06:02Okay so this one we're going to pull it upwards. Leave it about there. So as I said you see it's
06:08got one square, move it two squares and then go back to here. Beverly. Give it about two, maybe three.
06:17Okay we'll do three maximum, we don't want any more than that. Really two is nice, but three is about,
06:23yeah three makes it look nicer. It just takes off the sharp corners, off the edges, that's what it does.
06:28And not only that, it makes your model look a bit nicer. I'm thinking okay let's do that.
06:32So okay what about this part? Well this part is going to be slightly different. So if you've got
06:40that part going on, I'm thinking okay we obviously want to do this, but we want to do this in a
06:44different way. I'm thinking okay what's with the top half of it? The top half of this is going to be,
06:51yeah it's going to be different. So what we want to do is make the top into a coin, a bit like a round
06:57circle, or not exactly a round circle. So what you want to do here is basically, ideally you'd go here
07:04and you'd place a ring. You can put up, you can put a cylinder in here if you want to. So we can do
07:10that. So we can put a cylinder in here, make the cylinder about 12. We don't need any more than that
07:17because it's going to be pretty small. So we can try it and see how it looks. If not we'll put 24 in there.
07:24So we'll just scale it down. So we'll scale it down so it's roughly somewhere. Just kind of roughly.
07:32Snap it up and snap it over. Stick it right in the middle of the post.
07:38As you can see, you are watching the making of the actual lamp post. So we'll just stick it onto here.
07:43And I think you do want that kind of that low. And not really. So what I'm going to do,
07:50I'm going to snap this up to that line there. I can't snap it, it's going to turn it off.
07:56Bring it down to the line. Click on this. Go back to here. Edit. Go back into full wire frame mode.
08:03Go back to points. Select the points. Move it and move it back up to just to the line.
08:11So it's kind of exactly perfect. As I said later on when we scale it, it's going to look absolutely
08:17great. So of course it's nowhere near it. So go back to objects. Select this. Go back to top mode.
08:23Just snap it over. Just snap it. If you want to get it exactly, go back into the word frame.
08:27Like I tell you. Zoom in and you see the little white line. When you're zooming,
08:32you can kind of get it on the white line look. So about somewhere right there.
08:36You don't have to be as perfectly accurate. Just kind of long as you know where it is.
08:41Okay. Now what you want to do here. You just temporarily want to scale it.
08:47Only temporary. We're not really doing this for any reason. But I'm not going to tell you to do that.
08:52But to move, move it back down to the floor. As soon as the line itself, watch the line. As soon as the line
08:58kind of either disappears or goes kind of like grey. Then leave it. Click off it. Click this. Okay. So this is now a
09:08a streetlight post. Which looks pretty great. Now of course most modellers out there. Oh yeah. Save it as.
09:15Because this blender might crash. I don't know. So go here. I want to put a number one on it.
09:20For save. So as I said, I don't want to give you big long videos. So you don't understand how to do it.
09:25So have a go at this part and see if you can do it. And if you can do it, absolutely great.
09:29If you don't want to do it, you can download my model. And you can use my version of it. So as I said,
09:35it's up to you. So as I said, I don't want to make it look like the original. I just don't.
09:39So I am going to make it kind of look a bit like the original. Because I do like the original.
09:43The original looks pretty great. But like I told you, I don't want to look like the original. So
09:48So anyway, stay safe. Keep it friendly. Come back and watch the next part. In the next part,
09:55we're not going to build the top half of it yet. We're going to build a bit more geometry in the
09:59bottom. So because this is the most important part in the game where you're going to see it,
10:04you might want to put some advertising posters on here. Maybe some stickers like there's a missing cat
10:12in the village. There's a missing person in the woods or something. Whatever you want to do.
10:18Maybe you want to promote your website. Maybe you want to promote your video channel. Whatever you
10:23want to do. You can put the story and the sticker on the box. Anyway, we will talk about all that as
10:30we're going through it. And then if you want to basically colour it, paint it, texture it and
10:35UV mapping. I'm going to show you how to do that. And at the final end of it, I'm actually going to show
10:41you how to turn the lights on and off. Stay safe. Keep it friendly. See you soon. Don't forget to subscribe. Bye.
