00:00Prisoners of war returned home after Russia and Ukraine reached a new swap deal struck by their negotiating teams in Istanbul.
00:09EU leaders gathered in Brussels for a summit where they discussed the situation in Gaza, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Kyiv's EU accession and global trade.
00:20UK media citing two officials say early European assessment finds that Iran's uranium stockpiles remain intact following US strikes on their nuclear sites.
00:30Oil giant Shell has denied reports that it will acquire its UK rival company BP, saying no such talks have taken place.
00:40UK media say Tehran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium appears to be intact following US strikes on uranium nuclear sites.
00:50The Financial Times reported the findings citing European officials who were briefed on preliminary intelligence assessments.
00:57The officials noted that European capitals believe Iran's stockpile of almost 410 kg of uranium enriched close to weapons grade levels were not destroyed in Washington's strikes.
01:09Fordow is the most fortified of Iran's nuclear sites, lying in a mountain and buried close to 100 meters below ground and is widely believed to be the main uranium storage facility.
01:19Early European intelligence suggests that uranium was moved out of Fordow prior to the US's attacks.
01:24White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt dismissed claims that uranium was transported from Fordow in a briefing on Thursday.
01:31Levitt says the White House was watching closely and found no indications that any of the nuclear substance was moved.
01:37The European assessment is unlikely to go down well with US President Donald Trump who firmly stresses that Washington's strikes obliterated Iran's nuclear program.
01:47Trump's claims are supported by Israel's National Nuclear Agency.
01:51However, the Pentagon's intelligence arm also detailed in their own report that damage appears to be minimal.
01:57Speaking in a televised address, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei downplayed Trump's claims, saying his assessment is, quote, exaggerated.
02:10EU leaders have described the situation in Gaza as dire, deplorable, catastrophic, saying the number of civilian casualties and the levels of starvation is unacceptable.
02:21However, they refused to suspend in full or in part the EU-Israel Association Agreement, despite an independent review finding Israel in breach of the Human Rights Clause.
02:31During a summit in Brussels, EU leaders also called for Hamas to release all hostages immediately and for a ceasefire to ensue.
02:39On Israel.
02:40As you know, Israel is a friend, but with friends, we need to be frank and open and clear.
02:53We have an association agreement, and in terms of this association agreement, on Article 2, both parts need to respect some values.
03:06Nobody can ignore what we watch on TV and what we read in the press.
03:13They are a systematic violation by Israel of human rights in Gaza.
03:19Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joined the summit online to discuss Kyiv's progress towards eventual EU membership.
03:25However, Hungary's Viktor Orban declared ahead he would not support any language on Ukraine joining the EU, saying it was against Hungary's interests.
03:34Leaders also talked about the ongoing trade war with the United States, and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, touted an idea to replace the World Trade Organization amid the US administration's protectionist stance.
03:48I said that we can think about this as a beginning of redesigning the WTO.
04:01Of course, understanding what should be reformed for the positive in WTO, so not repeating mistakes that might have been done in WTO.
04:14But to show to the world that free trade with a large number of countries is possible on a rules-based foundation.
04:23And this is a project where I think we should really engage on, because CPTPP and the European Union, this is mighty.
04:31The deadline for a resolution to the US tariff war looms large in July 9th, but divisions remain tonight as to whether to push for a swift agreement or negotiate hard for the best possible deal.
04:44Shona Murray, Euronews Brussels.
04:46Authorities in the occupied West Bank say three Palestinians were shot dead after dozens of Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian village close to Ramallah.
05:03The incident, which happened Wednesday night, was captured on footage and showed Palestinians fleeing as gunfire could be heard, along with a burning car and house.
05:15One injured Palestinian described the incident.
05:19Me, I was a rich man who was shot and my brother was shot and this is really strong for me.
05:21The woman was shot, and that's why I was hit.
05:22The women were shot, and that we were killed by our lives.
05:23The women were shot on the ground.
05:24My brother was shot.
05:25I figured out for the purpose of this.
05:26I was injured, and we were shot on the ground.
05:27There was a female.
05:28We didn't know I was injured.
05:29People were shot.
05:30But my brother there was an opportunity.
05:32It was a female.
05:33My brother, I knew I could say, but it was powerful.
05:36They were here with me.
05:37And it was a friend who was here.
05:38I was here with me.
05:39And we were here with us.
05:40I came here with us.
05:41The Israeli military said forces deployed to the scene found settlers and villagers throwing
05:51stones at each other.
05:53It said soldiers opened fire and that some people were killed and wounded as a result.
05:58On Thursday, relatives and families held funerals for the three Palestinians killed when Jewish
06:04settlers attacked the West Bank town.
06:10Soldiers of war were welcomed back in Ukraine as part of a swap deal with Russia.
06:15The deal was struck after intensive talks between Russian and Ukrainian negotiation delegations
06:20in Istanbul.
06:21Many of the freed Ukrainian servicemen had spent more than three years under Russian captivity.
06:26A significant number of them were taken during the 2022 Siege of Mariupol.
06:31Among those released were troops wounded or suffering from health issues and soldiers younger
06:35than 25 years of age.
06:38Russia's defense ministry also confirmed that their prisoners were returned safely.
06:42Russian soldiers were driven to Belarus before being flown back to an airport just outside
06:47Moscow.
06:48It's not clear how many prisoners were released in this round of exchange.
06:52Fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues to rage, but despite the hostilities, the two
06:57sides continue to exchange prisoners.
06:59Diplomatic efforts are continuing in Turkey, which Ankara serving as mediator hopes will lead
07:04to a ceasefire.
07:10Ukraine's EU ambassador is confident his country will eventually be able to overcome Hungarian
07:15resistance to its path to EU accession.
07:19Speaking to Euronews, he said it was important to concentrate on support.
07:23We are fighting to stop this war, first of all, and we are fighting for our European future.
07:31Ukraine is a candidate state, and we are ready to start accession talks as soon as there
07:38is a consensus.
07:40So we have 26 member states supporting, and I am sure we will be able to convince Hungary
07:46to get on board.
07:49And what is important...
07:50Chantsov also said that it is crucial to continue supporting Ukraine to keep Russia from invading
07:56other countries.
07:57Well, it's good there is an understanding that Russia is a threat, and we kept telling about
08:06this imminent threat if Europe is not defended, if Ukraine is left alone.
08:12So to avoid this continuation, this broadening of the conflict, so Europe and the United States
08:19have to help Ukraine to stop this war.
08:23Chantsov said he was confident that US President Donald Trump would stick to his word on a commitment
08:29to supply Kyiv with Patriot missiles.
08:31But we stand firm, and...
08:39At a high-level pledging event in Brussels, the Gavi Vaccine Alliance rallied international
08:43donors to fund its next five-year program.
08:47Contributions came from the EU and several European countries too, without, however, any
08:51support from the US.
08:53So far, Gavi has secured over 7.7 billion euros, less than its target, but with more pledges
08:59expected in the coming weeks.
09:01What's at stake is the life of millions and millions of children.
09:06And I think there is nothing more important in the world than the lives of millions of children.
09:11It makes a difference if they get immunization, if they get vaccines or not.
09:17Because if they don't get, they will die from perfectly preventable diseases through immunization.
09:23And so what we are asking donors is to contribute to the next five years of Gavi.
09:28Gavi is a global health partnership launched in 2000 to improve vaccine access for children
09:35in the world's poorest nations.
09:37Since then, the Alliance has helped vaccinate over a billion children and are estimated it
09:42have saved 19 million lives.
09:45Now it aims to reach 500,000 million more children by 2030.
09:50At the Brussels summit, European leaders, including those from Spain, Ireland, Greece and Croatia,
09:55pledged increased support.
09:57The European Commission also reaffirmed its commitment.
10:01Today is the moment to reaffirm our engagement.
10:06And I am proud to say that Europe will continue to contribute.
10:11Team Europe is Gavi's largest donor.
10:15And today, today I am pleased to pledge 360 million euros to Gavi at this summit.
10:24Major donors also included the United Kingdom and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, notably
10:30absent the United States.
10:32A long-time Gavi backer, the U.S. has announced it will no longer provide funding, part of a
10:38broader move to cut international aid under President Donald Trump's administration.
10:43Oil giant Shell says it has, quote, no intention of making an offer for its UK rival company BP, and that no such talks between the two have taken place.
10:58The firm was responding to a Wall Street Journal report that suggested there were discussions regarding a 70 billion euro takeover,
11:06which would create a massive energy group worth more than 235 billion euros.
11:13BP's share price jumped after the report was published.
11:17In line with the UK takeover code, Shell's announcement means that it can't submit another bid for six months unless certain conditions change.
