USC Trojans Head Coach Lincoln Riley Discusses New Coaching Position Role.
Transcript
00:00On the theme of tight ends today, Coach Savage, how's it been like working with him in his first year here?
00:04He's done a great job. He has. That's not an easy position to come in here and coach.
00:08We're both working with our inside receivers and our tight ends, and he's acclimated to the staff well.
00:14He and Coach Simmons are working really well together.
00:18That group, along with Spencer Jones, has done a really good job helping bring those guys along
00:23because there's definitely some crossover, and there's times where Coach Savage is coaching outside guys
00:27and times where Coach Simmons is coaching inside guys or we're all coaching tight ends.
00:31I mean, the way we do it, there's a lot of carry over there, and so he's meshed well.
00:37He's a good recruiter. He's got great connections and great relationships in this area,
00:42which is obviously very, very important to us.
00:45He's brought a lot of energy and a lot of expertise to the group.
00:48With the director of analytics being announced last week, what role will that hire play?
00:53How will that help the program?
00:54Yeah, that one's going to be a little bit more involved in the personnel roster management recruiting side.
01:02We have some folks that do some work for us analytics-wise in terms of football and game analytics
01:08and opponent studies and all of that, which are pretty mainstream right now in college football.
01:15But this was part of the vision when Chad and I first talked about him coming there,
01:19of continuing to build out that piece of it because there's certainly an analytical piece
01:24and viewpoint that you can gain when you're constructing a roster.
01:29And so having the people that can help execute that vision are important,
01:32and this was another big step in that direction.
01:34I didn't think so.
