Event M21: THE BACH CELLO
SUITES: REFLECTION, CATHARSIS,
JUBILATION, St Paul's Church,
Churchside, Chichester, PO19 6FT
Pavlos Carvalho performs and
shares thoughts on two of the most
contrasting movements from the
Bach solo cello suites. The moving,
meandering and reflective 2nd suite
in D minor, cathartic and spiritual, is
followed by the bold, adventurous,
dancing and jigging C major suite.
Music to uplift the soul and have you
dancing in your seats. Tickets £12,
under-19 £5, under-7 free.

VOICES OF GREECE, St Paul's

Join Pavlos Carvalho and Greek
folk group Plastikes Karekles for a
night of traditional Greek Rebetiko
music. Guitar, bouzouki, baglama and
evocative singing treat you to soulful
melodies, foot-tapping grooves that
take you to the heart of Greece. Music
by Vamvakaris, Tsitsanis, Mitsakis,
Skarvelis and more. Tickets £15,

anniversary concert performing and
celebrating the 200th anniversary of
Mendelssohn's dazzling String Octet
and the 150th anniversary of Dvorak’s
beautiful Serenade for Strings in E

composers, their incredible music

00:00it's uh just this idea of reflection cathartism and just a word about the festival the fact is
00:05that you are so loyal to us in chichester which we love you keep coming back which is great
00:10what does the festival mean to you it's home the festival is home of all the festivals i play even
00:17look even the as we were speaking earlier i was saying we've just come out the end of uh this
00:23greek music festival that i'm i'm one of the founders founders of um uh the chichester festival
00:29is is actually it feels even more home because this is uh this is the one i've been going to for
00:35for longest always welcomed whatever programs we um we do and everyone always looks after us so well
00:44people always turn up to our concerts um uh it's just it just like i say i think there's no other
00:52way to put it that it just feels like home you know and also when having organized another
00:57festival myself when i come to the chichester festival and all i have to do is turn up with
01:01my cello and sit down and play and then walk away feeling absolutely amazing i always i cannot walk
01:08away without having the back of my mind people like you feel and everyone organizing it where
01:13i know you do one concert you can't even enjoy that you have to think about the next one you're
01:17organizing the next one and it's only a month after where you can reflect on the magnificence of what
01:21you've done so i really i love going there because i i know the effort that everyone puts into
01:26organizing it so that we can just turn up sit down play and leave you know it's a breath of fresh air
