Focused, humbled yet confident. The words of Finance Secretary Petal-Ann Roberts as she prepared for her historic delivery of the THA budget come Monday.
When TV6 News spoke with the Finance Secretary earlier on Sunday she was in the process of fine tuning her budget statement. More in this report.
00:00I feel humbled by this experience in my life at a time like this. I feel a sense of confidence because I do know what I am saying. I do know what I want for Tobago. I think this budget will be very pivotal. And I hope that the people of Tobago embraces the plans that we have for Tobago, especially in this budget.
00:26Finance Secretary Petalan Roberts, as she spoke to TV6 News, Mrs. Roberts said following her meeting with Finance Minister Devindranath Tanku, she expects a basic 5.1% of the national budget.
00:41I did indicate to him the basis of the 5.1%. And he did agree. He also indicated that, you know, we will try our very best to ensure that Tobago gets what Tobago wants.
00:56I cannot say if he will go by the percentage that I am asking for, but really and truly the minimum percentage that we are saying we are not going to go beneath, right? We are only accepting a minimal of 5.1%.
01:14Focal areas of the budget include, and the focal areas are tourism and the creative sector, agriculture, digitization or the use of digital technology, human resource or human capital development, sorry, and focus on the micro, small and medium enterprises sector.
01:40As for the additional monies allocated to the THC, during the mid-year budget review, the Finance Secretary said she expected more. However...
01:50I do look forward, though, to receiving or that funding from CAF for the coastal restoration, because that is also important for us.
02:04But more important for me right now is to utilize the balance of resources to see how best, and that's what we have been doing for many, many years.
02:14We have been utilizing the limited resources and see the most that we can get out of it. We have always been doing more with less.
02:24She said once there are no interruptions in the reading of the budget, the presentation would be less than three hours.
02:31Last June, the THC presented a $3.956 billion budget. Last September, the THC received $2.599 billion.
02:41Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
02:44He's talking about the winning of the lowest RMB.
02:45Which we have been doing to the lowest RMB in theАjitaP.
02:46They're not doing that.
02:47That's a great thing.
02:47Especially since the lowest RMB in the ton of RMB, they will be using the lowest RMB.
02:48They have to be using the lowest RMB.
02:49Now if you are using the lowest RMB, then you will see the lowest RMB.
02:51They have to be using the lowest RMB, so as well.
02:53Each RMB comes in the lowest RMB.
02:53So that is the lowest RMB will also be using the lowest RMB.
02:54So that is also the lowest RMB, so they have to be using.
02:55And if you think that we have to be using the lowest RMB in the RMB,
02:56you can do.
02:57It's not sure that the RMB is very much going for the RMB.
