Highlights of the long reigning and highly skilled former WBA Super Lightweight world champion.   Antonio Cervantes - Is a Colombian boxing trainer and former professional boxer who competed from 1961 to 1983. He held the WBA and The Ring Super Lightweight title twice between 1972 and 1980. Cervantes only had three amateur bouts, winning two and losing one. He first won his world title when he defeated Alfonso "Peppermint" Frazer in 1972, winning by KO. Cervantes immediately became a national hero in Colombia, and many enterprises made him their spokesman in the coffee producing country, most notably Sanyo, whose name the popular champion advertised on his clothing and fight trunks. He went on to make 16 successful title defenses across 2 separate reigns and is considered to be one of the best Super Lightweights in history. He retired with a record of 67-12-1 (37 KO's).
