Columbia University graduate Mahmoud Khalil was released from a Louisiana immigration detention centre on June 20 after spending 104 days in custody.

The 30-year-old condemned what he called racist US immigration policies and expressed concerns for others still detained.

00:20Mahmoud said he plans to return to New York to reunite with his wife, Dr. Noor Abdallah, and their infant son, who was born during his detention.
00:28He was arrested on March 8 by immigration agents at the lobby of his university residence in Manhattan, becoming the first known target of President Donald Trump's vow to deport foreign students involved in pro-Palestinian protests.
00:43His case is one of several involving pro-Palestinian foreign students and graduates detained since March.
00:49Others, including Mohsen Madawi and Rumeysa Ozturk, have also been ordered released by U.S. judges.
