AIT Resumes Student Visa Applications, Social Media Must Be 'Public'

After a brief suspension, the U.S. diplomatic mission in Taiwan has resumed taking in student visa applications. However, applicants now must set their social media accounts to "public" as part of the vetting process.

00:07The United States' de facto embassy in Taiwan, the American Institute in Taiwan, resumed taking student visa applications after a brief suspension.

00:16That's after U.S. President Donald Trump ordered all American foreign missions to suspend student visa applications in May.

00:23The Trump administration said the move was to increase social media vetting for applicants.

00:28AIT says that anyone applying for a student visa are, quote, requested to adjust the privacy settings on all of their social media accounts to public to facilitate vetting.
