00:08The report by the American Cancer Society found the number of cases grew by 1% each year from 2012 to 2021,
00:17even as the overall death rate continued its historic trend of decline, falling 44% from 1989 to 2002.
00:25Science Alert notes that breast cancer is the second most common cancer diagnosed among U.S. women
00:32and the second leading cause of death from cancer after lung cancer.
00:36The report said that over the past decade, breast cancer rates grew faster for women under the age of 50
00:42than those older for reasons that aren't immediately clear.
00:46Science Alert reports that in April, an influential U.S. medical body recommended women
00:51should get screened for breast cancer every other year, starting from the age of 40.
