00:00The results aren't exactly promising. We did go along to the schools where this was playing
00:07out over the last four months, a couple of the schools, one in Canberra in particular,
00:12and you can see the kids reacting in real time as they're getting these wildly inaccurate
00:18ages. You know, 17-year-olds being told they're 13 and people being given ages up to 37. And
00:25they were testing out face scanning tech in particular. So this is, you know, looks at
00:31the data points on your face, you know, where certain things are placed, and tries to make
00:37a guess at how old you are. But it's only reaching within 18 months accuracy for 85% of respondents
00:46is what early data is showing that we've seen. So we'll have a look at some of the results
00:51that the kids in Canberra got.
00:53One minute I'm getting 15, the next I'm getting 19, so like, maybe, maybe not.

01:00And I've been told my whole life I look like about four years younger than what I actually
01:04am.
01:05I'm getting, yeah, 23 up to 23.
01:06On all the tests?
01:07On majority, yeah.

01:14So, yeah, it's pretty inconsistent.
01:17We don't know exactly how the social media ban is going to be implemented, but facial
01:24scanning has been one of the main methods that's been tested in schools. Now, in the
01:29face of these results, people have been quick to point out that there are a lot of other
01:34methods besides facial age scanning. But, you know, we do know that it's in the mix. And,
01:41you know, 18 months off the mark is a lot when you're 16 years old and it's the difference
01:46between being online or not. People could be discriminated against in a couple of ways here.
