00:0025 days ago, I left my homeland, Goonijamara country, at a place recently named Portland, with a small group of companions.
00:11I had the sea at one side and country on the other, both Aboriginal land and Aboriginal water.
00:21The first step was taken with the weight of history pressing through the soles of my shoes.
00:29And the voices of my people whispering, urging, steadying me forward.
00:37We began at the place where the first wounds were struck into the earth, where footsteps came ashore, not as visitors, but as claimants.
00:50Where the smoke of fires, long burning was ignored, and where our presence was declared absence.
