00:00From France's art referee, we get underway here in the 1994 World Cup Finals, final match in Group C, Germany and Korea.
00:12And playing simultaneously is the game between Spain and Bolivia.
00:21And we'll update you on any scores we get from that match throughout proceedings here.
00:27The Germans who were behind against Spain, were level at 0-0 until the hour marker against Bolivia.
00:39Well, South Korea came from two goals down to earn a highly creditable 2-all draw in their match, their first game against Spain.
00:48And were involved in the only scoreless draw of the tournament so far.
00:51But with one or two question marks, particularly against the formation that Birdie Bucks was supplying unanswered.
01:01Hassler does well and he puts the cross in.
01:03There's a great chance here and must be no put wide by Klinsmann.
01:08Well, all credit there to Choi for making a block challenge.
01:16But Klinsmann looked favourite to score there.
01:20But what space Hassler got in.
01:22He put a delightful ball through.
01:24Now Klinsmann there, I'm surprised he didn't go down.
01:26I've got to give him credit there.
01:27I've been on just to him on several occasions.
01:32But if he'd gone down there, it would have been very tempting for the referee.
01:35It's not so applicable tonight as it will be tomorrow when we have two post-saving games in prospect.
01:42And the live game, it's definitely on Eurosport, will feature Ireland against Norway.
01:50And here's Klinsmann.
01:51Great turn and a brilliant finish.
01:54Jürgen Klinsmann does it again with this time his third goal in the World Cup Finals.
01:59And he's 24th for Germany.
02:09One's got to hand it to Klinsmann.
02:11He's some finisher.
02:12Well, moments ago, Klinsmann had a chance from a similar situation on the right-hand side.
02:23Here he twisted turn and finished brilliantly.
02:27Germany have the lead.
02:29And it's the predator, Jürgen Klinsmann, who joins Batty Stuter and Darlene at the top of the goal-scoring charts in this year's finals.
02:40It's his third of the tournament, and his 24th international goal.
02:45The goal coming after 12 minutes, and Klinsmann again will now South Korea have a mountain to climb, really.
03:01Just the sort of start that I'm sure Bertie Vokes would have hoped for.
03:05And that's one of the most spectacular goals we've seen in the tournament so far.
03:13A really wonderful finish from a striker who I've been hypercritical about for everything apart from his finishing.
03:22That isn't in doubt.
03:23Spain, one-up in Chicago.
03:32Guardiola's penalty converted.
03:34And that's after 19 minutes there.
03:38And we hit the post, and it must be a second, and it is!
03:41The Germans go two-up.
03:43Well, Karl-Heinz Riedler, it's his 16th goal of the season.
03:56Pukvart made a contribution to it as well, as the keeper was beaten to hit the post.
04:06And here was Riedler with his 16th international goal following up, and Germany now have a two-goal lead.
04:2319 minutes gone, and it was a spectacular effort, really.
04:28But Riedler was there to pounce after the ball had hit the post.
04:35So, 2-0 to Germany.
04:38And they may have come back from two goals behind against Spain,
04:46but I think the odds are stacked against on them doing that against Germany.
04:51So, now the Germans are beginning to take control of the game,
04:58and looking like they'll be starting us off in the last 16 in Chicago.
05:09Now they want to turn it on for their supporters.
05:13They're two-up and cruising, as the Koreans are forced to defend.
05:21Shin.
05:28It's his leap.
05:36Heffenberg.
05:37Hessler.
05:38He has been involved in so much.
05:40Heffenberg again.
05:42And Hessler was the obvious option.
05:45So, the World Cup continues to provide us with goals.
05:52That'll be 28 games with only one scoreless draw, which...
06:04It's his hole.
06:07Now it's a nice little ball forward.
06:09And there's a chance here for the Koreans.
06:11Great save from Ilgner.
06:12Well, Kim was through, and he did have an opportunity maybe to have made it harder for Ilgner.
06:20He hit it straight at him.
06:22All credit to the keeper.
06:23He palmed it over, but he had so much space to the right.
06:34Germany, though, for me, in complete control after 26 minutes.
06:38They're two in front.
06:39But I do admire the way that the Koreans are having a go, and the demand squared through.
06:44And he should have scored.
06:46Ilgner had every right to look at his defence, because that was a major chance for Cho.
06:53And really, what a shame for the Koreans.
06:57It didn't fall to Huang.
06:59Cho's only scored twice at world level.
07:03Well, Huang scored 21 times.
07:05He had much more time, and he wasted it.
07:08Two good opportunities.
07:11Well, there we see it.
07:11Kim's ball through, and it was a feeble finish.
07:16Spain leading Bolivia.
07:191-0 at the moment.
07:21The Germans here have been pulled up.
07:24Won't count.
07:33If the scoreline stay the same.
07:36And it looks like it might be a yellow card here to Klinsmann.
07:39It is.
07:41Well, it seems very harsh.
07:57Here's Lothar Mateus.
07:58And no flag here, and a great opportunity for number three.
08:07And that wasn't the sort of finish that Buchwald would have been proud of.
08:12A defender's finish.
08:14He's only managed four goals in 73 internationals.
08:18And when you see finishing like that, it's easy to understand why.
08:22Clear chance.
08:24And really, well, the Koreans will probably rue those two chances they've had.
08:32But when you're two down against the Germans, it's asking a lot to come from behind.
08:38Inviting center.
08:43And here's another chance.
08:44And this time, a delicate flick over.
08:46But again, Ilgner will realize when it came to the right man, Huang, their leading scorer by a mile as well.
08:56He's got 21 goals.
08:59Just the first touch was a little bit tight for him with the angle.
09:04When Ireland and Mexico crashed, they were, I think, at half 12 at lunchtime local time, which is very cruel.
09:10Well, Shin and Kim will answer the free kick.
09:15And it comes.
09:17And Klinsmann has scored.
09:20He now becomes the leading scorer in this year's World Cup Finals with four goals.
09:26And he keeps up the remarkable scoring record he's got in internationals at the moment.
09:31That's his 12th in 11 games.
09:34It's Jürgen Klinsmann with a simple finish in the end.
09:42Makes it 3-0 to Germany.
09:52So nine minutes from halftime then.
09:55It's two for Klinsmann.
09:57It's three for Germany.
09:59And we have a new leader in the golden boot.
10:02It's Jürgen Klinsmann of Germany.
10:08Well, the Germans now can certainly afford to relax and take it easy.
10:20South Korea will be very much deflated and downhearted by this scoreline.
10:29And the defenders, I don't think they really deserve to be three goals behind.
10:34But Klinsmann's got two.
10:38And now Germany are in.
10:47The two Koreans being asked to go the full 10 yards.
10:51Hassler will deliver the free kick.
10:54And Bedlam inside the Korean penalty area.
10:58Referee checks with his two linesmen, but still doesn't blow the halftime whistle.
11:03Germany leading by three goals to nil here.
11:09Two for Klinsmann.
11:11And one for Karl-Heinz Riedler.
11:13But the halftime whistle does go in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
11:18Blown by a French referee, Joel Guineau.
11:21It's been a highly satisfactory first half for the world champions.
11:24Who are in front, thanks to a very special goal from Jürgen Klinsmann, after 12 minutes.
11:28Two in front, seven minutes later, after Karl-Heinz Riedler scored one of his easiest goals at this level.
11:34He's 16th for Germany.
11:36And three in front, nine minutes from the break.
11:39When really, keeper Choi should have done better.
11:42But Klinsmann became the leading scorer in this year's World Cup finals.
11:47When he poached in for his fourth goal.
11:49Germany, the world champions three.
11:51South Korea, nil.
11:52The 92nd Battle Olympics, and then at the student games in 1993, when they were played in Buffalo.
11:59So he's got a bit of experience of playing in America.
12:02Where do we go then?
12:03We're on the way at the start of the second half.
12:06So the Koreans make a second substitution.
12:22They've also brought on number 11, Seo, who replaces number 15 in the second half.
12:29Reimer with the responsibility.
12:34An out swinger.
12:36Koreans unable to properly clear it.
12:37The drive comes in.
12:39And the first save that Lee has had to make from Lothar Matthäus.
12:44Well, it was a fairly firmly struck shot from Matthäus, but always on the ground.
12:56And it lost its pace there.
13:00And it's another free kick for Germany.
13:04Obstruction.
13:04And the flag stays down.
13:10And Jürgen Klinsmann will not get many better opportunities at this level to score a hat-trick.
13:18He'll be very disappointed with that finish.
13:21Real chance for him to get another couple of goals and firmly set the target for the golden boot.
13:28A very prestigious prize as well at world football level.
13:31The leading striker in the finals.
13:33Klinsmann will be well aware of that.
13:36Here's Bremer.
13:39Just reminding you that they had three players booked in the first half, the Germans.
13:43But Stefan Effenberg was the most costly.
13:46He will miss the match in Chicago.
13:51Germany 3, South Korea 0.
14:03Bremer and Hassler contemplating this free kick.
14:24Bremer certainly shaping up as though he might shoot on Anticipate Hassler narrowing the angle.
14:32Bremer does shoot over the bar.
14:36Andy Bremer managed eight goals from his 83 internationals, which isn't a bad strike rate for a defender.
14:4310%.
14:44But they won't want to overexert themselves either.
14:51There's no point when bigger days to come.
14:54But here the Koreans have a chance.
14:55They must score.
14:56And do so.
14:57They pulled one back.
14:59And it's Hwang who gets the goal.
15:02Well, nobody can say they didn't deserve that.
15:05Because Hwang had many chances in that first half.
15:10And now he's scored.
15:13So the Korean supporters at last have something to celebrate.
15:18And they're back in the game.
15:22Well, Hwang kept his nerve and finished really rather cooling.
15:28No flag.
15:36And South Korea have a goal against the Germans.
15:41Lovely finish.
15:5252 minutes play.
15:55And Hwang pulls one back.
15:58Well, we'll certainly have to start chasing the World Cup history books to find the last time the Germans relinquished a three-goal lead.
16:07But we won.
16:11And the goals continue to come in this year's World Cup finals.
16:15All credit to South Korea.
16:17And one's got to say, they deserve a goal for the way that they continue to attack, having been two goals down early.
16:25Now, the Germans will want to redress the balance.
16:31Remember, they scored two in the last five minutes against Spade.
16:38But if they came from three down at half-time against Germany, that would be a result that would be talked about for years in the modern game.
16:50For something.
16:59Now, Hwang masterminding his troops.
17:03We really might have a game on our hands if South Korea got a second.
17:07And the shot comes in, deflected.
17:13Surely deflected for a corner.
17:16Sio looked away.
17:19Now, for me, this took a wicked deflection.
17:22Yes.
17:23Well, how's that not a corner?
17:24And...
17:25And...
17:26In comes across.
17:40Completely cleared.
17:42And the shot comes in.
17:44It's there!
17:45Well!
17:47What a match we've got!
17:49Would you believe it!
17:51From out of nothing, it's Hwang who's scored!
17:56And the Germans now are rattled!
18:02Well, it's incredible!
18:15Hwang has scored here.
18:16And...
18:16Meanwhile, a substitution is made.
18:24Muller.
18:26But this was fully 30 yards and Hwang struck it so well!
18:31Past Dilgna.
18:35And this is one of the famous World Cup goals of all time.
18:40What a turnaround!
18:44And what a match we've got now!
18:4863 minutes gone!
18:51And South Korea...
18:53Are on the verge of...
18:57Making real World Cup history.
18:58Well, remember...
19:08Eight years ago...
19:12South Korea...
19:14Played World Champions Italy.
19:16On that occasion, they lost by...
19:19Three goals to two.
19:21And in fact, in that match, they had the last own goal before Escobar's...
19:24Against Colombia in the World Cup.
19:26But here...
19:27We have a real story.
19:32And I'm sure deep down they certainly are.
19:35This is Riedler.
19:39Have the habit of looking cool in any situation, Germany.
19:43And Riedler does well!
19:44And still Riedler!
19:45And Riedler...
19:46Well...
19:46He went on a determined run.
19:55And so nearly got right the way through the South Korean defence.
19:59Here come the Koreans forward.
20:09A chance here!
20:10That was a major opportunity.
20:12Make no mistake about it.
20:14There were two Koreans inside the penalty area.
20:17And it fell to the right man, Hwang.
20:18It might be a tame affair in many ways.
20:27But it certainly turned out to be anything but that.
20:30South Korea here have won the hearts of so many neutrals around the footballing world with this performance in the second half.
20:37They've taken the game to Germany.
20:39They've got a chance here now.
20:40They could go.
20:41Build the saves!
20:42The flag would have denied them that opportunity anyway.
20:50But Koh left in the clear.
20:54Clearly unaware.
20:58I make it just over 20 to go.
21:01And this...
21:02Well, it was.
21:03He was offside.
21:04It was narrow.
21:06And we really love to see a career.
21:12an equaliser.
21:18Then he tapped it off.
21:19The drive comes in!
21:20And Ilgner makes the save!
21:27One's got to hand it to the South Koreans.
21:29Again, it was that man, Koh, who struck it so well.
21:33And that was a good save from Ilgner.
21:35And there's really only one side in the ascendancy at the moment.
21:41And it's not the world champions.
21:44They were cruising.
21:45But they're not now.
21:47Shin.
21:50This is Joy.
21:51He's had a good game.
21:52No flag.
21:53Great chance!
21:54And Ilgner comes out.
21:56And the centre, if it's accurate, could force an opportunity at the far post.
22:00For Shin again.
22:02It's a South Korean throw.
22:05While Kim there got to the byline, put in a deep cross.
22:08And I wonder whether inexperience might count against them in these closing stages.
22:16Or whether they're just going to go hell for leather to try and get an equaliser.
22:20Well, here was good play from Koh.
22:25And it was Shin.
22:27He got to the byline.
22:28And when the cross came in, he's got Shin to his left.
22:32Uses him again.
22:33This is Koh.
22:34Two in the centre.
22:35And Kim has come up.
22:37Number four.
22:37He's calling for it as well.
22:40This is Joy.
22:43Space out on the right-hand side here.
22:45And into the penalty area.
22:47The Koreans really sense there's a story here.
22:50Great run from Seo.
22:51Oh, it was over-hit.
22:55This is a wonderful spell for the Koreans.
22:58The Germans are rattled.
23:00They've never lost a three-goal lead.
23:03But it might happen.
23:04Seo!
23:05Great save from Ilgner.
23:08And Joy this time.
23:10Has gone desperately close.
23:14South Korea.
23:17Are stunning the world champions.
23:20I think it might have drifted wide.
23:22To these Korean players for their second half fight back.
23:26It wouldn't be an unjustified honour.
23:30They have really produced everything.
23:34And how they would deserve an equaliser.
23:36Little chip.
23:37It's only just inches wide, you know.
23:39What a story this has turned out to be.
23:43It's Hwang again.
23:46Marvellous stuff.
23:47He's obviously been inspirational.
23:49But how about this for Chi?
23:50First time volley.
23:52Oh!
23:53A foot wide.
23:54No more.
23:55What a game.
24:00A minute of stoppage time.
24:02One feels now that...
24:04Germany are going to squeeze through...
24:08...to play in Chicago.
24:10Oh!
24:10A minute and a half of stoppage time.
24:19Can Korea get an equaliser?
24:23We're going to the first side to pull one back.
24:26They've got a chance here.
24:27It's inside the penalty area.
24:29Oh!
24:29Is it outside?
24:30It's given it outside.
24:32Free kick on the edge.
24:34Well.
24:36Another talking point.
24:38What an explosive finish we've had here.
24:43This will be the last chance of the match.
24:45Now.
24:46What is inside the box?
24:47It was...
24:48Molo.
24:48Well, it...
24:49Oh!
24:49I think that's very close.
24:51Again.
24:53Highly debatable.
24:54Now.
24:56It was from a free kick situation that Hwang got the first goal.
25:00Against Spain.
25:02Six.
25:03In the German wall.
25:05How to make yourself...
25:07An international hero.
25:11Well.
25:11Here's your chance.
25:13Two minutes into stoppage time.
25:15Can South Korea get a draw?
25:19It's taken a deflection.
25:22And...
25:23The final whistle goes.
25:25There's no time to take the corner.
25:27Germany...
25:28May have won the match.
25:30They're through to the...
25:32Last 16 of the World Cup.
25:35They'll play in Chicago.
25:38Now.
25:38Almost certainly against the USA.
25:40But Bertie Volk's side were given one hell of a run around in the second half by a South Korean side who will probably be eliminated.
25:51There's the final score.
25:53There's the final score.
25:54Germany 3.
25:55South Korea 2.
25:56It's a match I'll remember for a long time.
26:00And I hope you've enjoyed it with us here on Eurosport.
26:03Those South Korean players are all heroes to a man.
26:07They've contributed to a wonderful spectacle and deserve to get a standing ovation as they leave.
26:18Spain have defeated Bolivia.
26:21They'll meet Switzerland in Washington on Saturday in the second quarterfinal.
26:26Jürgen Klinsmann swaps his shirt.
26:29I think he'll be keeping that for a long time.
26:32There's the scorers.
26:34Klinsmann, Riedel and Klinsmann for Germany.
26:37And two goals for Korea from Wang and Hong.
26:41Congratulations in defeat to South Korea.
26:43They've contributed to a marvellous World Cup tie.
26:47But Germany, the world champions, win Group C.
26:50And they're through to the last 16 along with Spain, with South Korea and Bolivia.
26:56Odds on to be eliminated.
26:59And we remind you right safely on League, the Cup, and the Air Force this afternoon.
27:06With special thanks for a fly like Daniel.
