00:00We've heard not once, more than once, the Trump administration quite keen to get across the point that it had nothing to do with the attacks on Iran up until this point.
00:10I mean, what do you read into this bid to try to put some distance between the U.S. and events on the ground?
00:17Well, Tom, I think it was clear that the Trump administration did want to get to a nuclear agreement with Iran, one that had to be more stringent than the 2015 JCPOA, but one that actually ended in a diplomatic resolution, at least to the issue of nuclear weapons.
00:34But once this started and Israel did not only strike the nuclear facilities, but their military and economic infrastructure as well, I think the United States wanted to ensure this separation because of all of the assets that we do have in the region.
00:50Iran, before this started, said that they would actually attack if anybody attacked them.
00:56That didn't happen. That would have drawn the United States into this conflict.
00:59But I don't think the United States wants to be or needs to be right now because they can see Israel had a very substantial overmatch militarily than Iran.
