00:00It poses a significant danger if uranium is inhaled or ingested.
00:13Based on the information available to the IEA, the following is the current situation at Iran's
00:20nuclear sites. There has been no additional damage at the Natanz fuel enrichment plants
00:30site since the Friday attack, which destroyed the above ground part of the pilot fuel enrichment plant,
00:39one of the plants at which Iran was producing uranium and reached up to 60 percent U-235.
00:50Electricity infrastructure at the facility, which included an electrical substation,
00:58a main electric power supply building, an emergency power supply and backup generators,
01:05was also destroyed. There has been no indication of a physical attack on the underground
01:12cascade hole containing part of the pilot fuel enrichment plant and the main fuel enrichment plant.
01:21However, the loss of power to the cascade
01:25of radioactivity. The level of radioactivity outside the Natanz site has remained unchanged and at normal
01:42levels indicating no external radiological impact to the population or the environment from this event.
01:53But let me elaborate a little bit on this because we have received lots of questions.
01:58In the Natanz facility, there is both radiological and chemical contamination.
02:07Considering the type of nuclear material at this facility, it is possible that uranium isotopes
02:14contained in uranium hexafluoride, uranyl fluoride and hydrogen fluoride are dispersed inside the facility.
02:25The radiation, primarily consisting of alpha particles, poses a significant danger if uranium is inhaled
02:33or ingested. However, this risk can be effectively managed with appropriate protective measures,
02:41such as using respiratory protection devices, while inside the affected facilities.
02:48The main concern inside the facility is the chemical toxicity of the uranium hexafluoride
02:54and the fluoride compounds generated at the contact with water.
03:01No damage has been seen at the site of the Fordow fuel enrichment plant or at the Condab heavy water
03:10nuclear reactor which is under construction. Bush's nuclear nuclear power plant has not been targeted
03:16has not been targeted or affected by the recent attacks and neither has the Tehran research reactor.
03:25At the Isfahan nuclear site, four buildings were damaged in Friday's attack. The central chemical laboratory,
03:34a uranium conversion plant, a uranium conversion plant, the Tehran reactor fuel manufacturer plant,
03:42and the UF4 to EU metal processing facility which was also under construction. As in Natanz,
03:53off-site radiation levels remain unchanged.
