00:10:51Thank you, Lord.
00:10:53Praise you, Jesus.
00:10:56Miracles are happening in this place.
00:10:59Tonight is a special night because we'll have my prayer partners come forward right now
00:11:02and be made available for prayer for you tonight.
00:11:06You know, the word says in Proverbs, it says,
00:11:10Trust the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding,
00:11:15but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.
00:11:21You know, what your circumstance is going to want to speak to you.
00:11:25It's going to want to say fear to you.
00:11:27It's going to want to have your mouth.
00:11:28It's going to want you to talk about it.
00:11:30But we have a different message, amen?
00:11:33We have the message of Jesus.
00:11:34And so when we come into agreement with prayer tonight,
00:11:38you're coming into agreement with the Word of God in that moment.
00:11:42And that power produces the faith that you need to walk through what you're walking through right now.
00:11:49And so as we go into this next song,
00:11:52I want you just to make your way up here to one of these people.
00:11:55Maybe you need healing in your body.
00:11:57Maybe you're dealing with some kind of pain or affliction.
00:12:01Maybe you have something going on in your life, in your marriage,
00:12:05or maybe some kind of relationships,
00:12:07maybe some kind of drama that you're walking yourself through right now.
00:12:11These people are here.
00:12:12They want to pray with you.
00:12:13Maybe you have a financial thing.
00:12:15You need a breakthrough.
00:12:16You need a breakthrough with something in your life.
00:12:19This could be the moment that you have that breakthrough happen.
00:12:24Thank you, Lord.
00:12:26Thank you, Jesus.
00:12:27Let's just go ahead and go into that song.
00:12:34Thank you, Lord.
00:12:44Thank you, Jesus.
00:12:47Thank you, Jesus.
00:12:48Thank you, Lord.
00:12:50Thank you, Jesus.
00:12:51Thank you, Jesus.
00:12:52Thank you, Jesus.
00:12:53Thank you, Jesus.
00:12:55Thank you, Jesus.
00:12:56Thank you, Jesus.
00:12:57Oh, my words fall short.
00:13:00I've got nothing new.
00:13:05How could I express all my gratitude?
00:13:15I could sing these songs, as I already do.
00:13:22But every song must stand, and you never do.
00:13:31I love you, Jesus.
00:13:32Thank you, Jesus.
00:13:33Thank you, Jesus.
00:13:34Thank you, Jesus.
00:13:36Thank you, Jesus.
00:13:37And I know it's not much, but I'm nothing else before a king.
00:13:58No, I don't, except for our singing hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.
00:14:15I've got one, each one, I've got just one, ooh, with my arms stretched wide.
00:14:28I will worship you, come on church.
00:14:34So I'll throw in my hands and praise you again and again, cause all that I have is a hallelujah, hallelujah.
00:14:52And I know it's not much, but I've nothing else to forgive you, no, except for our singing hallelujah, hallelujah.
00:15:11Oh, come on my soul, oh, don't you guess I'll be lifted doors on, cause you've got light inside of those doors.
00:15:32Oh, come on my soul, oh, don't you guess I'll be lifted doors on, cause you've got light inside of those doors.
00:15:50Come on church.
00:15:57Oh, come on my soul, oh, don't you guess I'll be lifted doors on, cause you've got light inside of those doors.
00:16:08Come on.
00:16:09Come on.
00:16:10Give up and praise the Lord.
00:16:12Come on.
00:16:14Yeah.
00:16:15Come on.
00:16:18We praise you, Jesus.
00:16:21We thank you, Lord.
00:16:24Praise the Lord.
00:16:25Praise the Lord.
00:16:29Praise the Lord.
00:16:31Praise the Lord.
00:16:32Praise the Lord.
00:16:33Praise the Lord.
00:16:34Praise the Lord.

00:16:42Praise the Lord.
00:16:43Praise the Lord.
00:16:44Praise the Lord.
00:16:45Praise the Lord.
00:16:46Praise the Lord.
00:16:47Praise the Lord.
00:16:48Praise the Lord.
00:16:49Praise the Lord.
00:16:50Praise the Lord.
00:16:51Praise the Lord.

00:16:58Praise the Lord.
00:16:59Praise the Lord.
00:17:00Praise the Lord.
00:17:01And the men need to be honored. Amen?
00:17:04It's their day.
00:17:07It's their day.
00:17:08The men of this nation are the ones who serve in the armed forces that defend the nation.
00:17:16They're the policemen, the ones who defend our communities.
00:17:20The firemen.
00:17:22The men are the builders.
00:17:23They do the hard things.
00:17:24Come on, guys.
00:17:28We're brave.
00:17:29They say that the average lifespan of a man is shorter than a woman.
00:17:34Substantially shorter.
00:17:36And they say it's because of what we put our bodies through.
00:17:39Now, our lifespan is 120 years because we live by faith.
00:17:43But it's simply worth honoring the men for.
00:17:45Amen?
00:17:46Let's give the men a hand clap right now.
00:17:51I want to say a prayer for the men.
00:17:54But before I do, I think we need a good dad joke.
00:17:57Why do skeletons not fight?
00:18:00They just don't have the guts.
00:18:05I only didn't know 25 letters of the alphabet.
00:18:08I don't know why.
00:18:11You can groan if you want.
00:18:12Oh, it's terrible jokes.
00:18:15Let's stretch out our hands towards all these dads.
00:18:19In fact, let's have everyone sit down that's not a father so we know who we're praying for.
00:18:26Switch our hands towards these men, these dads.
00:18:32Thank you, Father, for these men.
00:18:35Lord God, you are the God who rewards richly.
00:18:38I pray rewards in their lives now
00:18:40for all they've laid down
00:18:42they lay down their lives for their families
00:18:44for their children
00:18:45we thank you for these men
00:18:47reward them richly
00:18:48they are blessed
00:18:49they are healthy
00:18:51Lord extend their years

00:19:00Amen
00:19:01you can be seated
00:19:02this will be the part of the service
00:19:05where we have an opportunity
00:19:06to be generous to our God
00:19:08and worship him with our giving
00:19:09I just want to remind you
00:19:11that we are
00:19:12it's time to pay this church off
00:19:14somebody get behind that
00:19:16it's time to pay this church off
00:19:18and here's the reality
00:19:20God has to do it
00:19:22God's going to pay his church off
00:19:23it's his house
00:19:24unless the Lord builds a house
00:19:26they labor in vain
00:19:27God will do it
00:19:29and how does he do it
00:19:30he brings the people
00:19:31who want to be involved
00:19:33the wealth
00:19:34if you want to be involved
00:19:36in paying off God's house
00:19:37if you become a conduit
00:19:38he loads you up with wealth
00:19:41more than you need to give
00:19:43he leaves you with leftovers
00:19:45and then after you give
00:19:46he multiplies it back to you
00:19:48somebody give the Lord
00:19:49some praise right now
00:19:50God is going to pay off his house
00:19:52by loading his people up
00:19:53with money
00:19:54come on somebody
00:19:55it's coming into your life
00:19:57if you're willing to receive it
00:19:59Amen
00:19:59we'd like to do this declaration
00:20:01before we
00:20:02have the word preached
00:20:05just say it with me
00:20:06I thank you Lord
00:20:07that as your word is declared today
00:20:09healing is coming to my body
00:20:11to my heart
00:20:12and to my family
00:20:13I am free from fear
00:20:15addictions and poverty
00:20:17your peace, joy and love
00:20:19are flooding my soul
00:20:20I am blessed
00:20:21I am highly favored
00:20:23I believe, receive and act upon your word
00:20:26and all of this
00:20:27by the strength of Christ within me
00:20:28in Jesus name, Amen

00:20:37I'm hungry
00:20:39I'm dead
00:20:58I am a Spider
00:21:01Happy Father's Day
00:21:19In celebration of you amazing dads
00:21:20we are having our very own
00:21:22dads only club
00:21:23here at the offices
00:21:24if you follow the signs in the foyer
00:21:26You cannot miss it.
00:21:27We're going to have massage chairs, free root beer, and a putting tournament where you have the opportunity to win this free electric screwdriver.
00:21:35And so I encourage you dads, come on down.
00:21:38It's completely free as long as you're a dad.
00:21:43Hey, man, what a good time at the Dad's Club.
00:21:51Richie is so strong, and he just demonstrated it in front of all of us.
00:21:56That's so funny.
00:21:57It's all good.
00:21:58It's just a table.
00:21:59Thank you guys so much for coming to church tonight, being a part of everything going on.
00:22:04Just so you guys know, Pastor Jason is teaching tomorrow at the 930 service, bringing an incredible word.
00:22:10But tonight you guys get me, so thank you for coming to church.
00:22:14Amen.
00:22:16Tonight I wanted to teach from the title, How to Win in the Waiting.
00:22:24Do you guys like to wait?
00:22:26No, nobody does, right?
00:22:28It's one of the great things that movies really romanticize.
00:22:32You know, like front porches are good for swings and sitting down and waiting.
00:22:37It's the only time somebody likes to wait.
00:22:39Like, that's it.
00:22:40Or especially around, like, Father's Day, you're going to see all these different things where the kids are at the front door waiting for Dad to come home,
00:22:47and there's this sense of excitement, right?
00:22:50Waiting is only fun when you know how long you have to wait, right?
00:22:54Nobody goes to Disneyland and looks at a line for Space Mountain, and you wouldn't jump into it unless it said 45 minutes.
00:23:02You know what I mean?
00:23:02Like, nobody gets into a line and goes, I don't know how long I'm going to be here, but we're going to do it.
00:23:07It's going to be worth it.
00:23:08That's not the things that, like, motivate us or excite us or anything like that.
00:23:12Katie and I, we have a baby number two on the way, and just the other day, I was like, how far along are you now?
00:23:18Like, 24 weeks?
00:23:19She goes, Christian, it's 29.
00:23:21I was like, no way.
00:23:22This is flying by for me.
00:23:24I don't know about for you.
00:23:25For me, it is.
00:23:26I'm not the one who has to do anything right now, so my job is coming for sure.
00:23:30Yes, absolutely.
00:23:32But have you guys noticed that when it comes to waiting, that there is a process to it?
00:23:38And I remember when COVID was first breaking out, I was working in a very corporate banking job, so a lot of the networking and different things I had to do was on LinkedIn.
00:23:47And when COVID first broke out, there was all these guys who would be posting on LinkedIn being like, it might feel like the end of the world, but you should take advantage of all this time that you have at home now.
00:23:57Learn a new language, which I always thought was crazy to me, because it was like businesses were closing down, everybody was in fear, there was so much going on.
00:24:06And then some guy on social media was like, bring out that Spanish book from high school, let's get back into it, let's make this time valuable, right?
00:24:13Because when you go into waiting rooms now, what does everybody do on their phone?
00:24:1810, 20 years ago, what was it, magazines on a table and people communicating and trying to like talk and just make the time valuable and you would learn things from everybody who is around you.
00:24:30So we have this problem, right, where we know that waiting is inevitable, that it's a part of life, but we don't like to do it.
00:24:39And oftentimes we think that in our waiting, we're the only ones who have to wait, right?
00:24:44We compare ourselves to everybody else we see, where they're at in their life, you don't realize that they've been working for 20 years, right?
00:24:50The musician that just blew up, they've been doing music for 10 years and nobody even took notice or took any account of them.
00:24:58And then all we see is they shot up one day and all of a sudden everybody knows their name.
00:25:03We don't know the work that somebody puts in to get to the place that where they're at.
00:25:07All we see is the success, because people don't like to show the waiting because it's not glamorous.
00:25:12But you look at the Bible, there's countless stories of people who have to wait.
00:25:18Wait how?
00:25:19Wait because they're working out their faith to get to the next point of where they need to be.
00:25:24They're waiting for their miracle.
00:25:25They're waiting for God's word to come to pass.
00:25:28Even though they already know it to be true, they're just waiting to see the evidence in front of them.
00:25:32And one of my favorite stories about waiting is Ruth.
00:25:36And that's what I wanted to go over today and really talk about with you guys.
00:25:40Listen, just to give some context, the book of Ruth comes right after the book of Judges.
00:25:46And I don't know if you guys have really taken your time to read the book of Judges.
00:25:51It doesn't make the Israelites look really good.
00:25:53There's just a whole lot of bad going on and all these different mistakes.
00:25:56So far to say that it actually says in Judges 21 that there was no kings in Israel.
00:26:01So everybody just did as what they saw to be right.
00:26:06When has that ever worked?
00:26:08Everybody just goes, you know what?
00:26:09I think I know what's right.
00:26:10And nobody ever gets it, right?
00:26:13So we're coming right out of this book of Judges into the book of Ruth.
00:26:17And it adds a lot of context to the two sort of main people who are in Ruth, right?
00:26:22Which is Ruth and then which is Boaz.
00:26:25So Boaz is somebody who is an Israelite.
00:26:27He's somebody who would be following the commandments of the Torah, what we know to be the Torah.
00:26:32But in this time, if he's choosing to follow it, he's not in the majority, right?
00:26:38So we're looking at a good man who's choosing to follow the traditions, the cultures, and what he knows to be right based on what God said is right.
00:26:46Amen?
00:26:46And then what we see is Ruth, who is a Moabite woman, who is not familiar necessarily with the story because it's not the tradition, it's not the culture of the people in Moab.
00:26:58And yet she's still going to fulfill and honor some of these laws, whether she realizes it or not.
00:27:04So you start to take into account that you have these two very good people coming out of a time period when there wasn't a lot of good happening.
00:27:13So you start to notice.
00:27:15And this story really takes into account because Ruth has a mother-in-law named Naomi.
00:27:20Naomi's from Bethlehem and she moves with her husband.
00:27:23There's a famine in their land and they're just trying to go where there might just be resources.
00:27:27So they end up in Moab.
00:27:29And during this time, Naomi loses her husband and then she loses her two sons.
00:27:34One of those sons was the husband to Ruth.
00:27:37So it comes to this point in time where Naomi hears that God is taking care and making a way and that there's food available back in her hometown in Bethlehem.
00:27:47So that's where she wants to go back to.
00:27:49So she looks to her daughter-in-laws and says, hey guys, I'm not getting any younger.
00:27:54I'm not going to have any more sons.
00:27:56I really would just, I'm going to release you guys to go back to your hometown, to go back to your people.
00:28:01And I pray that you find a husband who is able to take care of you in this next season of life.
00:28:07And where I want to pick up is that Ruth's response and this is what she says.
00:28:12So in chapter one, verse 16, Ruth replied, don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you.
00:28:19Where you go, I will go.
00:28:21And where you stay, I will stay.
00:28:23Your people will be my people and your God, my God.
00:28:26Where you die, I will die.
00:28:28And there I will be buried.
00:28:29May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely.
00:28:33If even death separates you and me.
00:28:36When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.
00:28:41What an incredible response to somebody that Ruth actually doesn't have any more obligation to.
00:28:49Right?
00:28:50Because in this moment right now, she's giving it out.
00:28:54And it's, hey, in this, especially this time period,
00:28:57that women were taken care of by men solely.
00:29:00So if you didn't have a husband or if you didn't have somebody,
00:29:03males in your family taking care of you,
00:29:06you were kind of, you're on really bad luck at that point.
00:29:10And there was only a matter of time before you were really out of resources
00:29:13and there was nobody really there to help you.
00:29:15So what Naomi is trying to do is to give back to them the opportunity that they can go start another family,
00:29:22be cared for.
00:29:23And the only thing that's on Ruth's mind is going with her mother-in-law to make sure that she is taken care of.
00:29:29So what is that standard?
00:29:31This is actually one of the commandments in the Torah that it talks about to take care of your elders.
00:29:36So this is something that she's demonstrating without even being somebody who comes from this background.
00:29:41And we start to realize that who Ruth is is actually somebody who is willing to put others before her for the sake of what,
00:29:49just doing what is right.
00:29:51Right?
00:29:51And what we see here is loyalty.
00:29:54And oftentimes we think that, oh, well, loyalty can or cannot be bought,
00:29:59or people are so fickle now, right?
00:30:02Dude, you're following one genre, you're following one group,
00:30:04and then all of a sudden somebody wrongs you or offends you,
00:30:07and you go, oh, I don't like them anymore.
00:30:09I'm going to go to this other group or go to this other team or anything like that at all.
00:30:13You know how loyal I am?
00:30:15I've been going to Circle K since I was 16 years old.
00:30:18I will avoid Chevron.
00:30:21Katie goes, hey, that one's a safe one.
00:30:24They have all these lights and it's lit up.
00:30:26I said, I will never go there.
00:30:27They charge you like 50 cents more for gas, all right?
00:30:30And also Circle K right now, I get five cents off every gallon
00:30:35because I put my phone number in and they're like, I'm a loyalty member.
00:30:38I will avoid every gas station to literally, I did the math, 50 cents.
00:30:42That's all it saves me.
00:30:43My car has 10 gallons and they're giving me five cents off a gallon.
00:30:46I was like, all right, 50 cents.
00:30:47That won my loyalty.
00:30:49So obviously we can see that Ruth is so much better.
00:30:52But also what else are we seeing?
00:30:54That she's doing something that is going to put her in a time of waiting
00:30:59without real evidence that there is a benefit or a goal at the end of it.
00:31:05How many of us do that?
00:31:07Not very often, right?
00:31:09How many of us step into something knowing that it's just the right thing to do
00:31:13even though that there might not be a reward
00:31:16or that's not even our intention for it at the end of it, right?
00:31:20Because there's a lot of things that are very rewarding,
00:31:22but it's just going to be naturally slower for us to get through anything at all, right?
00:31:27Anytime that I'm with Esther and she wants to do something,
00:31:30it'd be a lot easier if I just picked her up and I walked around with her.
00:31:33But no, she's learning.
00:31:35She's growing.
00:31:35She's taking steps.
00:31:37She's getting into things that she's probably not supposed to.
00:31:39And I just watch her and I go, all right, we're going to learn today.
00:31:43This is it.
00:31:43This is what we're doing.
00:31:44But you know what else is more valuable to me?
00:31:47Is that relationship that I'm building with my daughter.
00:31:50You know what else is more valuable as well?
00:31:52Is that any of this time, I'm not going to be able to give it back.
00:31:55So I'm not worried about the waiting or things being slow
00:31:58because there's a different value and a different reward to it.
00:32:02Do you guys know how much longer it takes for road trips when you have a child?
00:32:06It is absolutely nuts.
00:32:08Okay, so Katie and I, we drove to Vegas to go to a concert
00:32:12for one of her favorite composers.
00:32:16And it was when Esther was younger.
00:32:17So we were trying to really just be nice to Esther
00:32:21because it was going to literally be drive to Vegas,
00:32:24be there for the night, drive back the next morning.
00:32:27And I was like, I can't do that to my little baby girl who's,
00:32:30I don't know, is she six months, seven months?
00:32:33I don't know.
00:32:34She was very young.
00:32:35She wasn't even one yet.
00:32:36And I was like, that's a lot of time to be on the road.
00:32:39So what we did is we drove.
00:32:40And then that next morning, I dropped Katie and Esther
00:32:44and my little sister, Michaela, came with us as our nanny
00:32:47to watch them at the airport.
00:32:49And they got to fly home and I drove the car home.
00:32:53We got home at the exact same time.
00:32:58And I don't even drive that fast, okay?
00:33:01And mind you, I think I'm a good driver,
00:33:03but Katie naturally goes, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:33:06So much that when I drive Esther now,
00:33:10she's in the back seat and she goes, whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:33:13And I go, hold on, hold on.
00:33:15Whose team are you on, all right?
00:33:17Because I'm the one who lets you get into things
00:33:19and we're learning together and it's going to be okay.
00:33:23That road trip from Vegas, incredibly fast.
00:33:27Was it as fun?
00:33:28No, I wasn't with my girls.
00:33:30I didn't have this sense of, okay, let's just slow down.
00:33:33Let's be in a relationship together.
00:33:34We get home when we get home.
00:33:36No, it was, all right, if it's just me,
00:33:38there's no bathroom breaks.
00:33:39There's no stopping for food.
00:33:41There's no anything.
00:33:42When we get home and that's it.
00:33:44And a lot of us go through life like that,
00:33:46where we want to go from one goal to the next goal
00:33:49as fast as we possibly can without taking into account
00:33:52the relationships that are built along the way
00:33:54or the times when we're supposed to lay down our life
00:33:57and show our loyalty for somebody just for goodness sake,
00:34:00knowing that there is a reward and a benefit,
00:34:03but it's not necessarily our intention.
00:34:05That's just the way that God works, right?
00:34:07The Bible talks about that.
00:34:09God will not be mocked.
00:34:10What you sow, you will reap.
00:34:12So then what are we sowing
00:34:13and what does that put us in a position to?
00:34:15So we're picking this back up
00:34:17and Ruth and Naomi, they go back to Bethlehem.
00:34:21And what Ruth does is she starts to go
00:34:26and to try to essentially get some form of work
00:34:28so that she can take care of not only herself,
00:34:31but Naomi, and they call it gleaning wheat.
00:34:33So essentially she would go into a field
00:34:35where everybody else was harvesting wheat
00:34:38and she would stand behind
00:34:39and just wait for literally the workers
00:34:42to just drop scraps.
00:34:43And that was it.
00:34:44And that would be her day.
00:34:45She would go and she would pick it up
00:34:47and she would try to get a large enough amount
00:34:49where then they could make their own bread,
00:34:51but then also if anything was left over
00:34:53that they could sell it
00:34:54and start to put some things away.
00:34:56But lo and behold,
00:34:57she actually goes into a field
00:34:59that is owned by a relative to Naomi
00:35:03and his name is Boaz.
00:35:04And Boaz sees this woman who is a foreigner,
00:35:07not somebody that's part of their community.
00:35:09And he asks his workers,
00:35:10he goes, hey, who is this?
00:35:12And the workers go,
00:35:14this is the daughter-in-law to Naomi.
00:35:16She lost her husband
00:35:17and she chose to come to a land
00:35:19that is not hers
00:35:20in order to take care of her mother-in-law.
00:35:23And immediately Boaz has favor on her.
00:35:27He looks at her,
00:35:28sees that somebody else is laying down their life
00:35:31for somebody that they're not obligated to,
00:35:33going to a homeland that is not their own,
00:35:35experiencing difficulties
00:35:37just for the sake of doing what is right
00:35:39and doing what is good.
00:35:41And he has favor for her.
00:35:42So what he instructs his workers to do
00:35:44is to drop a little bit extra.
00:35:47And then not only that,
00:35:48he's also going to tell Ruth
00:35:50to stay back with the women that work his field
00:35:52and to make sure that she's taken care of
00:35:54and that she's safe.
00:35:55And anytime that she wants anything to drink,
00:35:58to just go where the workers go,
00:36:00that anything that he has is available to her.
00:36:02And this is this response from her
00:36:03that we pick up in chapter two.
00:36:06It says,
00:36:07at this, she bowed down with her face to the ground.
00:36:09She asked him,
00:36:10why have I found such favor in your eyes
00:36:13that you notice me, a foreigner?
00:36:15Boaz replied,
00:36:16I have been told all about what you have done
00:36:19for your mother-in-law
00:36:20since the death of your husband,
00:36:21how you left your father and your mother
00:36:23and your homeland
00:36:24and came to live with the people
00:36:26you did not know before.
00:36:28May the Lord repay you for what you have done.
00:36:31May you be richly rewarded by the Lord,
00:36:33the God of Israel,
00:36:34under whose wings you have come to take refuge.
00:36:38So what does this mean?
00:36:40Your actions create a reputation about you.
00:36:44And then your reputation is going to precede you.
00:36:48But what is your reputation, right?
00:36:50Because people knew about Jesus
00:36:52before Jesus was coming, right?
00:36:55And it wasn't just prophecy.
00:36:56When you think about him and his ministry,
00:36:58he was healing so many people.
00:36:59He was teaching so many different things
00:37:01that people knew who he was
00:37:03and that reputation was going before him.
00:37:05That was the goodness.
00:37:07So in the same way,
00:37:08we get to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
00:37:10So that goodness that we understand
00:37:13because we freely received it,
00:37:14we can freely give it.
00:37:15So do people experience God's goodness
00:37:20or have an expectation to receive that goodness from us
00:37:23before we even arrive, right?
00:37:26Because it's very easy to return snarky remark
00:37:29to a snarky remark to a rude waiter,
00:37:33a rude cashier person,
00:37:35or I guess self-checkout now, right?
00:37:37Because there's not that many cash registers open
00:37:40where you're doing it,
00:37:41where somebody else is doing it for you.
00:37:42We start to look at this and we go, okay,
00:37:44so what Ruth is doing is a demonstration
00:37:47that is not only preceding her,
00:37:49but it's starting to set a standard
00:37:50of what you can expect by an interaction with her.
00:37:53But notice that Boaz says, may God bless you.
00:37:57Boaz is the one who's like physically right now
00:38:00in this moment, creating an opportunity
00:38:02and continuing to bless Ruth.
00:38:05So then what does that mean?
00:38:06It means that we know that blessings
00:38:07can be worked through people,
00:38:09but they are coming from God.
00:38:11Amen?
00:38:12So we might not expect it.
00:38:15We might not think that,
00:38:16oh, this is the intention of what I'm planning for,
00:38:19but it doesn't mean that God isn't going
00:38:20to work through people in order
00:38:22so that your needs can be met
00:38:24and your wants and everything
00:38:25that go beyond that are also met as well.
00:38:28But what we start to understand
00:38:30is that who Ruth is and who Boaz is
00:38:34is actually starting to line up
00:38:35and they have a very incredible story.
00:38:38But one of the more important things
00:38:40that you start to notice about Ruth
00:38:42is that this representation
00:38:43and this reputation that she has
00:38:45in this community is circling so far around
00:38:49that it's not even just the people
00:38:51who are the leaders of the fields,
00:38:53the respected in the community.
00:38:55It's the ones who are on her level
00:38:57who also take admiration for the work
00:38:59that she's doing and the way
00:39:00that she lays down her life.
00:39:02Why?
00:39:02Just for goodness sake.
00:39:04When I was going to high school,
00:39:07my grandpa, all of my family went to Westwood.
00:39:10That's where I graduated from.
00:39:12And I remember I was talking to my grandpa
00:39:13before school started.
00:39:15And it's such a weird thing to say.
00:39:17He goes, mijo, do you have a girlfriend yet?
00:39:19I said, no, not yet.
00:39:20He goes, okay, well, going to Westwood,
00:39:22I need you to, if you like a girl,
00:39:25make sure you come and talk to me about it
00:39:27and make sure you know their first and last name.
00:39:29And I was like, all right.
00:39:30I don't mind giving that to you.
00:39:32I'll give that to my parents as well,
00:39:34but why?
00:39:35And he goes, well, our family is really big.
00:39:37I just don't want you to accidentally
00:39:39be dating somebody that you're related to.
00:39:43And I said, I don't think we're that big.
00:39:46And then we have a family reunion
00:39:48on that side of the family,
00:39:49like every five or so years.
00:39:52The first one I ever showed up to,
00:39:53half of Westwood was there.
00:39:54And I was like, oh my gosh, this guy was right.
00:39:57I guess, and you know what's really funny about that
00:40:00is I don't know if it's Hispanic culture
00:40:01or just the fact that I'm so comfortable
00:40:04around my family, but Katie will ask me,
00:40:06and she goes, how are you related to them?
00:40:09I said, I don't know.
00:40:11I don't.
00:40:12I said, she goes, who is that?
00:40:13I said, that is my Theo, and this is my Theo.
00:40:15And she goes, okay, what side?
00:40:17I said, don't know.
00:40:18But you give them a kiss on the cheek,
00:40:20and you say hello, and they say something
00:40:23about a memory that you have,
00:40:24and we continue on about our day.
00:40:26And she goes, but why are you so comfortable
00:40:28with doing that?
00:40:28I was like, they're my family.
00:40:29And she goes, but you don't know
00:40:30how that your family is.
00:40:31It doesn't matter to me.
00:40:32They're my family.
00:40:34So what does that mean?
00:40:35It means that the goodness
00:40:36that I know my family to be,
00:40:38I don't need to know every detail about you.
00:40:40I just know there's a common standard
00:40:41of this family that operates.
00:40:43So in the same way, what Ruth is creating
00:40:45is a standard operating process
00:40:49for how she's living her life, right?
00:40:51You're taking advantage of the waiting,
00:40:53and it's not always exciting, right?
00:40:55Like, nobody likes to be the bigger person.
00:40:58It feels so much better in the moment
00:41:00to be the one who's petty,
00:41:02or the one who's very witty,
00:41:03or the one who's able to clap back
00:41:05with some sort of response.
00:41:07Are you guys also the type of people
00:41:08who are really like, you're driving home
00:41:09thinking about the situation,
00:41:11like, that's what I should have said.
00:41:13That's, I know exactly.
00:41:15If that ever comes up again,
00:41:16that's my go-to one line.
00:41:18You know what I mean?
00:41:19This isn't what we see from Ruth.
00:41:21Ruth, what we see from Ruth
00:41:23is somebody who is laying down her life
00:41:25in a land that is not hers
00:41:26for a benefit that she cannot even see coming.
00:41:30And this is where everything starts to change for her.
00:41:32In chapter three, verse one,
00:41:34it says,
00:41:35one day Ruth's mother-in-law Naomi said to her,
00:41:37my daughter, I must find a home for you
00:41:40where you will be well provided for.
00:41:42Do you think Ruth's annoyed at this?
00:41:45She already told Naomi no.
00:41:47She's like, I came all the way over here with you.
00:41:50This is, I've already made the decision.
00:41:52I am following you.
00:41:53Why do you keep trying to bring this up?
00:41:56Naomi's being future-minded.
00:41:57Why?
00:41:58Okay, so what does this mean?
00:41:59It means that all of the inheritance
00:42:00that is now in Naomi's control,
00:42:02she can only pass it down to a male
00:42:04that can't go to Ruth.
00:42:07So as soon as Naomi passes away,
00:42:10there is nothing there
00:42:11that is going to take care of Ruth.
00:42:14So Naomi's response
00:42:15isn't to just try to keep pestering
00:42:17and trying to say,
00:42:18hey, you think you're doing something right,
00:42:19but let me show you something better.
00:42:21What it is, is the care of a mother.
00:42:23And he goes, hey, I won't be here forever.
00:42:26And there is something
00:42:28that is going to come down
00:42:29that for our lineage,
00:42:31but it's just, it can't go to you.
00:42:32That's just not how the world works.
00:42:34So what we need to do
00:42:35is we need to get you set up
00:42:37so that you have a husband
00:42:39and you have somebody
00:42:39who is going to care for you.
00:42:41And you start to notice
00:42:42that even in the waiting,
00:42:45there's still a thought about the future.
00:42:49And sometimes we forget that.
00:42:51We get so caught up
00:42:52in just the day-to-day
00:42:53and the difficulties of the moment
00:42:55and everything we're experiencing right now.
00:42:57And we forget that there's a greater reward
00:42:59at the end of it, right?
00:43:01We just, we think Monday is terrible.
00:43:03All Mondays are terrible.
00:43:05And by the time it's Wednesday,
00:43:06you have a glimmer of hope.
00:43:07You go, oh, we're almost there.
00:43:08It's almost the end of the week.
00:43:10And this frustration just continues
00:43:12to build throughout the week.
00:43:13And then you only have two days
00:43:14to get away from whatever frustration
00:43:16that is at work or the responsibilities.
00:43:19Or maybe sometimes you just had a hard day
00:43:21and then you have to come home
00:43:22and the kids weren't necessarily
00:43:24the most well-behaved that day.
00:43:25And then you have to be the disciplinary
00:43:27and you're like, oh man,
00:43:28I just wanted to come home and relax.
00:43:30And then you have to come home
00:43:31and you continue to lay down your life
00:43:34for somebody else.
00:43:35And as we start to look at this
00:43:38and we have an understanding of it,
00:43:39we also have to have an understanding
00:43:41of where this sense of security
00:43:43is coming from, right?
00:43:45In this time period,
00:43:46in this world right now,
00:43:47for Naomi and both Ruth,
00:43:49that sense of security
00:43:50is going to come from a man.
00:43:52It's going to come from somebody
00:43:53who's going to provide,
00:43:54somebody who's going to take care of them.
00:43:56It's so much so that
00:43:57they don't have to worry about it
00:43:58except that they're just the ones
00:43:59who help take care of the home.
00:44:02But what has Ruth been thinking
00:44:04about this entire time?
00:44:05It hasn't been security probably, right?
00:44:08Because she left her option
00:44:10for security back at home
00:44:12when she chose to follow Naomi
00:44:13and go to a land that isn't hers.
00:44:16So there's moments
00:44:17where it's going to feel like
00:44:18the thing that helped you feel secure,
00:44:20the thing that gave you peace of mind
00:44:22when you're going to progress
00:44:24and reach your next level,
00:44:26you can't bring your old security with you, right?
00:44:28Because what God is calling to you is bigger,
00:44:31but also what's the point
00:44:32of having that security
00:44:33of something that you can control
00:44:35because you're going to stop relying on God, right?
00:44:38As soon as it becomes easy
00:44:39and you go, oh no, I got this,
00:44:41then your faith and your trust
00:44:42isn't necessarily all put in God
00:44:45because at that point you go,
00:44:46I think I can just pick up the slack.
00:44:47If God doesn't come through,
00:44:49I'll be the one that takes care of it.
00:44:51I don't want to say that I'm incredibly cheap,
00:44:54but I am.
00:44:57I don't know that there's a good way around it.
00:45:00Okay, so when Katie and I were first moving
00:45:02out of the first house that we lived in,
00:45:05Pastor Jason,
00:45:06I don't know if you guys know this about him,
00:45:07he's very smart about a lot of things
00:45:10and especially just techie things
00:45:12and ring cameras were completely new to me.
00:45:15I grew up in a house
00:45:16where we didn't lock the front door
00:45:17and honestly,
00:45:19it's not like we trusted our neighborhood.
00:45:21It was because one of the kids
00:45:22broke the key into the deadbolt
00:45:24and we just never fixed it.
00:45:26We didn't.
00:45:27It would really be frustrating
00:45:29if I showed up and the door was locked.
00:45:31I was like,
00:45:31why do we do this?
00:45:32This isn't how we live.
00:45:34I show up to my own house now.
00:45:35If it's locked,
00:45:36I was like,
00:45:36why do we lock doors?
00:45:37We're okay.
00:45:38This isn't how we live.
00:45:40So ring cameras were so new to me
00:45:42and being able to watch somebody
00:45:43like ring the doorbell
00:45:45and you have all these sensors
00:45:46on windows and stuff.
00:45:47So when Katie and I
00:45:48were moving to the next house,
00:45:50in my mind,
00:45:51we spent all this money on the system.
00:45:53I was going to take it with me
00:45:54and Pastor Jason goes,
00:45:55no,
00:45:56you should leave it there
00:45:57and I was like,
00:45:59no,
00:45:59I don't think so.
00:46:01I paid for this.
00:46:02I know how this works.
00:46:03You know where it would be great?
00:46:04At my new house
00:46:05and he was like,
00:46:06no,
00:46:06no,
00:46:07no,
00:46:07no,
00:46:07you always reap this benefit,
00:46:09right?
00:46:09When you sell this house,
00:46:10there's enough value
00:46:11for what you're getting.
00:46:12You can spend the $200
00:46:14and you can just install
00:46:15the new ring system over there
00:46:17and I said,
00:46:17that's $200 though.
00:46:20You know,
00:46:21have you guys ever done that?
00:46:22And there I am
00:46:23at Circle K again,
00:46:24right?
00:46:24Five cents for every gallon.
00:46:26I was like,
00:46:26I'll be here forever.
00:46:27This is me saving my 50 cents.
00:46:30It would have fit my new house.
00:46:32It would have been
00:46:33completely applicable
00:46:34and right and compatible,
00:46:36but the security of your old home
00:46:38won't necessarily be
00:46:39the security for your new home.
00:46:41It won't be the new security
00:46:42for the destination
00:46:43that you're going to.
00:46:44It won't be everything
00:46:45that you're expecting to.
00:46:46Why?
00:46:46Because in the waiting
00:46:47is where you're also growing,
00:46:49right?
00:46:49So you're going to grow
00:46:51out of the things
00:46:52that make you feel comfortable,
00:46:54right?
00:46:54And that's part of what
00:46:55makes successful people
00:46:56so great
00:46:57is that they get past
00:46:59the idea of comfort
00:47:00a lot quicker
00:47:01than most people.
00:47:02Because for most people,
00:47:03it's I'm going to get
00:47:04a,
00:47:05go to a good college,
00:47:07right?
00:47:07I'm going to get
00:47:08a good job out of college.
00:47:09I'm going to make
00:47:09a comfortable salary.
00:47:11I'm going to try
00:47:11to put as much money
00:47:13away as I can
00:47:13from every paycheck
00:47:15so that by the time
00:47:16I'm X amount of years old,
00:47:18then I can retire
00:47:19and then I'm just
00:47:20going to be content.
00:47:22And this is all
00:47:22that life is.
00:47:23And it's, okay,
00:47:24well, the people
00:47:25who are most successful
00:47:26are the ones who are like,
00:47:26I'm willing to lose it all
00:47:28because I'm willing
00:47:29to take a step
00:47:30and a gamble
00:47:31and a leap of faith
00:47:31knowing that my ability
00:47:33about where I'm going
00:47:33to be tomorrow
00:47:34is greater than
00:47:35where I'm at today.
00:47:36And you start
00:47:37to understand
00:47:37that how to win
00:47:39in the waiting
00:47:39is really not only
00:47:40just being loyal
00:47:42and being faithful
00:47:44to the things
00:47:44that God has called you to do,
00:47:46but it also means
00:47:47not being so content
00:47:49where your security
00:47:50then now becomes a crutch
00:47:51and you're no longer
00:47:53moving forward
00:47:53and you're just stuck
00:47:54in a position
00:47:55because that is where
00:47:56you just felt like
00:47:56you're supposed to be
00:47:58at the time
00:47:58and this is good enough.
00:48:01And what we start to see
00:48:02is that Naomi
00:48:03hatches a plane with Ruth
00:48:05and it works perfectly.
00:48:07And what do you know,
00:48:08Boaz and Ruth,
00:48:11they get together,
00:48:12they get married
00:48:13and what is called
00:48:14in this culture
00:48:14is called
00:48:15a guardian redeemer.
00:48:16So this is essentially
00:48:17how it works
00:48:18is that there is
00:48:19a male figure
00:48:20in the family
00:48:21that if anything else
00:48:22goes wrong
00:48:23for the family,
00:48:24this guardian redeemer
00:48:25is going to help
00:48:26take care of it
00:48:26and they're going
00:48:27to take care
00:48:28of the women in need
00:48:29and what that would
00:48:30often be
00:48:30is that they would
00:48:31marry the one
00:48:32who is then
00:48:32without a husband.
00:48:34They would secure
00:48:34the lineage,
00:48:35the family line
00:48:36and then also
00:48:37an inheritance
00:48:37was still going
00:48:38to be able
00:48:39to pass down
00:48:40to the next
00:48:41family members.
00:48:42So what we see
00:48:43is that Boaz
00:48:44is faithful
00:48:44and that he first
00:48:46offers it
00:48:47to the person
00:48:48who it's supposed
00:48:48to be first in line
00:48:50and then it doesn't
00:48:52work out
00:48:52in that situation
00:48:53so Boaz
00:48:54steps up
00:48:55and says
00:48:55I'm going to do it
00:48:56I'll be the guardian
00:48:57redeemer.
00:48:57They get married
00:48:58they're able
00:48:59to conceive a son
00:49:00and this is where
00:49:01it picks up
00:49:02in chapter 4
00:49:03it says
00:49:03the woman said
00:49:04to Naomi
00:49:05praise be
00:49:06to the Lord
00:49:06who this day
00:49:07has not left you
00:49:09without a guardian
00:49:10redeemer.
00:49:11May he become
00:49:11famous throughout Israel.
00:49:13He will renew
00:49:14your life
00:49:14and sustain you
00:49:15in your old age
00:49:16for your daughter-in-law
00:49:17who loves you
00:49:18and who is better
00:49:19to you than
00:49:19seven sons
00:49:21has given him birth.
00:49:22Then Naomi
00:49:23took the child
00:49:23in her arms
00:49:24and cared for him.
00:49:25The woman living
00:49:26there said
00:49:26Naomi has a son.
00:49:29Naomi doesn't
00:49:30have a son.
00:49:32Ruth has a son.
00:49:34Right?
00:49:35But in this culture
00:49:36and in this time
00:49:36what does Ruth's son
00:49:39become?
00:49:39The heir.
00:49:41The person
00:49:41who's going to receive
00:49:42all the inheritance
00:49:43next.
00:49:44So then not only
00:49:45is this Ruth's son
00:49:46but this fulfills
00:49:47and carries on
00:49:48the family line
00:49:49for Naomi.
00:49:50So this is why
00:49:51it talks about
00:49:51that she has a son
00:49:52as well.
00:49:53And they named him
00:49:54Obed.
00:49:54He was the father
00:49:55of Jesse
00:49:56and then the father
00:49:57of David.
00:49:59What was never
00:49:59supposed to happen
00:50:01right?
00:50:01For Ruth
00:50:02all of this turmoil
00:50:04all of this hurt
00:50:05that she had been
00:50:06experiencing in her life
00:50:07can you imagine
00:50:07what it's like
00:50:08to lose a husband
00:50:10and then to have
00:50:11a mother-in-law
00:50:12try to get you
00:50:13remarried again?
00:50:14I'm sure there's hurt.
00:50:16I'm sure there's grief.
00:50:17I'm sure there's things
00:50:18that you have to
00:50:18battle and think about
00:50:20and go
00:50:20ah this didn't really
00:50:21work out for me
00:50:22the last time.
00:50:23I don't know
00:50:23that I want to
00:50:24go through this
00:50:25whole process again
00:50:26put myself out there.
00:50:27and we do that a lot.
00:50:29It didn't work out
00:50:30for me
00:50:30the last time
00:50:31we tried doing this.
00:50:32The last time
00:50:33that I stepped out
00:50:34in faith
00:50:34I fell
00:50:35and I don't know
00:50:37if God wasn't there
00:50:38to catch me or not
00:50:39or if maybe
00:50:39I just wasn't
00:50:40the one
00:50:41who was ready
00:50:42and willing
00:50:42to be able
00:50:43to do everything
00:50:44that God
00:50:44had called me to
00:50:45for whatever reason
00:50:46it just didn't work out
00:50:47and I didn't do it.
00:50:48But out of this hurt
00:50:50out of this grief
00:50:51and out of the opportunity
00:50:52of just using
00:50:53the characteristics
00:50:54that Ruth
00:50:54already possessed
00:50:55meaning you guys
00:50:57already have
00:50:57everything that you need
00:50:58in order to live
00:50:59a godly life.
00:51:01God partners with us
00:51:02and he uses us
00:51:03to accomplish
00:51:04what he needs
00:51:05right?
00:51:06So that it's not
00:51:07just for our benefit
00:51:08but it's for also
00:51:09the benefit
00:51:09of the people
00:51:10around us.
00:51:11This is really important.
00:51:14Ruth is a Moabite.
00:51:16She comes from Moab.
00:51:18The Moabites
00:51:19are descendants
00:51:20of Lot.
00:51:21Do we all remember Lot?
00:51:23Terrible decisions
00:51:25all the time
00:51:26right?
00:51:27Let me live
00:51:27next to Sodom
00:51:29because there's
00:51:31good grass
00:51:32and good water
00:51:32for my herd.
00:51:33It's like I know
00:51:34everything that's
00:51:35going wrong
00:51:35in that city
00:51:36but I'm not in it.
00:51:37I'm kind of close
00:51:38but I'm not in it.
00:51:40Okay?
00:51:41We look at somebody
00:51:42when Abram
00:51:43was given the promise
00:51:43from God
00:51:44and says I'm going
00:51:45to make your name great.
00:51:47I'm going to make
00:51:47your descendants
00:51:48too numerous to count
00:51:49for you
00:51:50and your family
00:51:52right?
00:51:52That promise
00:51:53then extends
00:51:54to Lot.
00:51:56What does Lot do?
00:51:58He keeps removing
00:51:59himself from his uncle
00:52:00and he keeps trying
00:52:02to pursue these things
00:52:03on his own
00:52:03and it puts him
00:52:04into a bad position
00:52:05and a bad place
00:52:06and he keeps falling short
00:52:08and out of his life
00:52:09decisions
00:52:10and the consequences
00:52:11that come from that
00:52:12the Moabite people
00:52:14come from Lot.
00:52:16Okay?
00:52:17Does that mean
00:52:17that God's promise
00:52:18is any less faithful
00:52:20or that he won't
00:52:21fulfill the word
00:52:22that he said
00:52:22he's going to do?
00:52:24Okay, so then
00:52:25what does Ruth
00:52:26and Boaz look like?
00:52:27Right?
00:52:27Because in our
00:52:28very Christianese things
00:52:29it's the book
00:52:30of the Bible
00:52:31that we talk about
00:52:32when we're trying
00:52:33to remind singles
00:52:34that there's somebody
00:52:35out there for you
00:52:35wait for your Boaz.
00:52:37Right?
00:52:37We talk about it
00:52:38all the time
00:52:39but we don't always
00:52:41take into account
00:52:42the context of it
00:52:43is this
00:52:44is that God
00:52:45is actually
00:52:46also using
00:52:46this situation
00:52:47to fulfill
00:52:48the word
00:52:48that he gave
00:52:49to Abram
00:52:50that Lot
00:52:51who was lost
00:52:52and this entire
00:52:54descendant
00:52:54and family line
00:52:55who had been
00:52:56removed from
00:52:57this promise
00:52:57because of the
00:52:58decisions that
00:52:59they have made
00:53:00right?
00:53:00They removed
00:53:00themselves
00:53:01from that covering
00:53:01God is now
00:53:03bringing them back
00:53:04and he's doing
00:53:04it through Ruth.
00:53:06So the promises
00:53:07that you thought
00:53:08you were given
00:53:09but didn't come through
00:53:10and you just think
00:53:11it's a pipe dream
00:53:12and you go
00:53:12oh maybe next time
00:53:14it still matters
00:53:15to God.
00:53:16If God said it
00:53:17he's going to do it.
00:53:19Amen?
00:53:20And there's so many
00:53:21different times
00:53:22in our life
00:53:22where we start
00:53:23to look at
00:53:24these difficult
00:53:25moments
00:53:26that we're going
00:53:26through
00:53:26and we go
00:53:27man if I could
00:53:27just see God
00:53:28then I would
00:53:29have enough
00:53:29strength
00:53:30to continue
00:53:31to push forward.
00:53:32It's like
00:53:32well where are
00:53:33you looking?
00:53:34Right?
00:53:35We're walking
00:53:36in his creation
00:53:37I am his creation
00:53:38so there's moments
00:53:39when we go
00:53:39I just don't
00:53:40understand what
00:53:41he's doing
00:53:41I don't
00:53:42understand the
00:53:42goodness
00:53:42you go
00:53:43well I woke
00:53:44up today
00:53:44I have breath
00:53:44in my lungs
00:53:45my legs
00:53:46are working
00:53:46I have strength
00:53:48inside of me
00:53:48I am the evidence
00:53:49of God's goodness
00:53:50so if I'm not
00:53:52seeing it
00:53:52in my own life
00:53:53what am I doing?
00:53:54Right?
00:53:55Am I not
00:53:55stepping out
00:53:56in goodness
00:53:56and representing
00:53:57God
00:53:57in the way
00:53:58that he has
00:53:59called us to
00:54:00in the way
00:54:00that is also
00:54:01going to share
00:54:02and show the love
00:54:03that I have
00:54:04received
00:54:04to everybody else?
00:54:06Right?
00:54:07So how
00:54:08do you win
00:54:09in the waiting
00:54:10because it doesn't
00:54:10always feel good
00:54:11when you're waiting
00:54:13it's taking advantage
00:54:16of the moments
00:54:17and the things
00:54:18that are before you
00:54:19and doing them
00:54:20as if you're doing
00:54:21them for the Lord
00:54:21Right?
00:54:22Because there's going
00:54:23to be difficult moments
00:54:25where you're out
00:54:25of energy
00:54:26Right?
00:54:26Nobody likes
00:54:27to do dishes
00:54:28at the end
00:54:29of the work day
00:54:30after everything's
00:54:31piled up
00:54:32from dinner
00:54:33and maybe even lunch
00:54:34but doing them
00:54:36that moment
00:54:37is going to
00:54:38make your tomorrow
00:54:39easier
00:54:40I grew up
00:54:41and my dad
00:54:42would always say
00:54:43stuff to us
00:54:44he'd always be
00:54:44TNT
00:54:45today
00:54:46not tomorrow
00:54:46and that would be
00:54:48the most frustrating
00:54:49thing to like
00:54:49a 12 year old
00:54:50right?
00:54:51Who doesn't want
00:54:51to do his chores
00:54:52who doesn't want
00:54:53to do the yard work
00:54:55or anything like that
00:54:56we would
00:54:56we would wake up
00:54:57on Saturday mornings
00:54:58to a country music
00:55:00CMT channel
00:55:01playing like
00:55:02the top 20 countdown
00:55:02for videos
00:55:03and you would wake
00:55:04up here
00:55:05and then you go
00:55:05oh my goodness
00:55:06it's time to do
00:55:07yard work
00:55:08we're going to
00:55:09clean
00:55:09like this is
00:55:10this is like
00:55:10the Batman call
00:55:11signal for my family
00:55:12that the boys
00:55:13had to get outside
00:55:13and get to work
00:55:14it's work
00:55:17right?
00:55:18The waiting
00:55:18is work
00:55:19but what comes
00:55:20out of the waiting
00:55:21is everything
00:55:22that you've ever
00:55:22wanted
00:55:23right?
00:55:24Because we think
00:55:25about work
00:55:25often times
00:55:26and we don't
00:55:27really like it
00:55:28and it's honestly
00:55:29sometimes dads
00:55:30you go man
00:55:30I've been working
00:55:31hard all day
00:55:32now I have to
00:55:33go home
00:55:33and continue
00:55:34to lay down
00:55:34my life
00:55:35and let me
00:55:36just remind you
00:55:37of something
00:55:37you chose this
00:55:38there is a moment
00:55:40when you were
00:55:40single
00:55:41and you said
00:55:42gosh
00:55:43I want a family
00:55:44I want a wife
00:55:45I want the
00:55:46opportunity
00:55:47to lay down
00:55:48my life
00:55:48for somebody
00:55:49because I know
00:55:49that is more
00:55:50rewarding
00:55:50and more fulfilling
00:55:51than the moment
00:55:52and the life
00:55:53that I'm living
00:55:53right now
00:55:54right?
00:55:55There's moments
00:55:56like that
00:55:56I joke
00:55:57and laugh
00:55:58with Katie
00:55:59and Esther
00:56:00because
00:56:01there's a lot
00:56:02of different
00:56:02things that
00:56:03I don't
00:56:03get to do
00:56:03anymore
00:56:04and she
00:56:05always feels
00:56:05very bad
00:56:06for me
00:56:06because she
00:56:06goes
00:56:07what's your
00:56:07hobby
00:56:08and I was
00:56:08like I don't
00:56:09you guys
00:56:10I was like
00:56:11hanging out
00:56:11with you guys
00:56:12like what
00:56:12am I gonna
00:56:13why would I
00:56:14want to remove
00:56:14myself
00:56:15from being able
00:56:16to spend
00:56:16more time
00:56:17with you
00:56:17and that's
00:56:18not a knock
00:56:18for anybody
00:56:19who has a
00:56:19hobby
00:56:19that's literally
00:56:20just how
00:56:20my brain
00:56:21works
00:56:21and goes
00:56:21I only have
00:56:22so much
00:56:22time
00:56:23so I don't
00:56:24want to
00:56:24spend it
00:56:24away from
00:56:25you
00:56:25I'd rather
00:56:25just spend
00:56:25it with
00:56:26you
00:56:26that's why
00:56:27Esther's
00:56:27playing sports
00:56:28and she's
00:56:28gonna have
00:56:29to learn
00:56:29how to be
00:56:29athletic
00:56:30and we're
00:56:30gonna do
00:56:30different stuff
00:56:31like that
00:56:31you know
00:56:31what I mean
00:56:32she's just
00:56:32gonna take
00:56:33after her
00:56:33dad
00:56:33but she
00:56:34also dances
00:56:35a lot
00:56:35so I don't
00:56:36know what
00:56:36to do
00:56:37about that
00:56:37so I'm
00:56:38learning how
00:56:38to be a
00:56:39girl dad
00:56:39at the same
00:56:40time
00:56:40that I'm
00:56:41just learning
00:56:42how to be
00:56:42a dad
00:56:43in general
00:56:43and that's
00:56:45waiting
00:56:45that's
00:56:45knowing that
00:56:46there's moments
00:56:47that are going
00:56:47to build me
00:56:48and when I
00:56:48lean into the
00:56:49moments that
00:56:49build me
00:56:50there's going
00:56:50to be a
00:56:51reward
00:56:51at the end
00:56:52of it
00:56:52it's not
00:56:53my intention
00:56:53to get
00:56:54to the
00:56:54reward
00:56:55it's just
00:56:55my intention
00:56:56to go
00:56:56through the
00:56:56process
00:56:57that with
00:56:58every step
00:56:58I know
00:56:59that I'm
00:56:59moving forward
00:57:00and from
00:57:00there and
00:57:00in that
00:57:01moment
00:57:01I go
00:57:02what is
00:57:02there and
00:57:03better for
00:57:03me at
00:57:04the end
00:57:04of the
00:57:04road
00:57:04is better
00:57:05than this
00:57:05moment
00:57:06of difficulty
00:57:07of whatever
00:57:07I'm experiencing
00:57:08right now
00:57:09right
00:57:09momentary
00:57:10pain
00:57:11for absolute
00:57:12joy and
00:57:13pleasure for
00:57:13the rest
00:57:14of my
00:57:14life
00:57:14so whatever
00:57:16you're going
00:57:16through
00:57:17whatever the
00:57:17season of
00:57:18waiting that
00:57:18you feel like
00:57:19you're in
00:57:19because we all
00:57:20go through
00:57:20waiting right
00:57:21we're waiting
00:57:22right now
00:57:22Katie and I
00:57:23for the
00:57:23second baby
00:57:24to come
00:57:24okay but
00:57:25then there's
00:57:26also gonna be
00:57:26a time where
00:57:27we're waiting
00:57:27for the baby
00:57:28to sleep
00:57:28through the
00:57:28night and
00:57:29then there's
00:57:30also gonna be
00:57:30a time where
00:57:31we're waiting
00:57:31for the kids
00:57:32to all of a
00:57:33sudden be
00:57:33old enough
00:57:33to go to
00:57:34school and
00:57:35then there's
00:57:35gonna be a
00:57:35time where
00:57:36you're waiting
00:57:36till they're
00:57:37graduated and
00:57:37there's gonna
00:57:38be a time
00:57:38where you're
00:57:38you're waiting
00:57:39to go through
00:57:40the college
00:57:40process and
00:57:41everything is
00:57:41waiting right
00:57:42and then you
00:57:43realize that as
00:57:43an adult that
00:57:45you you took
00:57:45a job because
00:57:46you thought it
00:57:47was gonna be a
00:57:47good stepping
00:57:47stone to get
00:57:48you to where
00:57:48you want to
00:57:49go and you
00:57:50have to sit
00:57:50there and you
00:57:50have to do
00:57:51your work and
00:57:51you have to
00:57:51wait there for
00:57:52at least two
00:57:52years before you
00:57:54even toss your
00:57:54name in a hat and
00:57:55try to go for a
00:57:56promotion and
00:57:57then you go oh
00:57:57well what am I
00:57:58supposed to do in
00:57:59this time or what
00:58:00am I supposed to
00:58:01do for my family
00:58:02right because I'm
00:58:03the one who's in
00:58:05their early 20s and
00:58:06I'm the glue who
00:58:07keeps all of my
00:58:07siblings together
00:58:08keeps them
00:58:09communicating with
00:58:10my parents but I
00:58:10don't even have my
00:58:11own family what am I
00:58:13supposed to be
00:58:14doing because I
00:58:15thought that I was
00:58:15gonna be in that
00:58:16season of my life
00:58:17already I
00:58:18thought I was
00:58:18gonna be married
00:58:19or at least
00:58:19further along
00:58:20dating and look
00:58:21like you had a
00:58:22possibility of doing
00:58:23that and it doesn't
00:58:24even feel like that's
00:58:25close that's all
00:58:26waiting so then what
00:58:27do we do we take
00:58:28advantage of our
00:58:29waiting put forth the
00:58:30effort and the tools
00:58:31and the gifts that
00:58:31God has given us and
00:58:33said tomorrow is going
00:58:34to be better because
00:58:34I'm going to do the
00:58:36work today amen
00:58:37and if you guys want
00:58:39to bow your head and
00:58:40close your eyes for me
00:58:40God thank you for
00:58:42tonight thank you for
00:58:43your word thank you
00:58:44for your encouragement
00:58:45and thank you for the
00:58:47the life of Ruth
00:58:48and Boaz that we can
00:58:49draw from that we can
00:58:50learn from that we can
00:58:51be strengthened from and
00:58:52also see the evidence of
00:58:54you and how you work and
00:58:55in the patterns of our
00:58:57life thank you that the
00:58:59things that we may have
00:59:00felt like our pipe
00:59:02dreams are the things that
00:59:03we are forgetting or
00:59:04forgotten that you have
00:59:07given us the desires of
00:59:08our heart that it's not
00:59:09on accident that's in that
00:59:11it's on purpose that we
00:59:12know that we we continue
00:59:14to partner with you and put
00:59:15forth the effort in the
00:59:17work that you are
00:59:17calling us to that there
00:59:18is going to be a reward
00:59:20and a benefit at the end
00:59:21of the road that it's
00:59:22going to be far greater
00:59:23than anything we could
00:59:24have ever asked hope for
00:59:25or imagine and it'll all
00:59:27be evidence of you and
00:59:28your goodness and that we
00:59:29will continue to show your
00:59:31goodness to the world
00:59:32around us in Jesus name
00:59:33amen amen hey well I never
00:59:37want to end a service
00:59:38without giving everybody
00:59:39the opportunity to receive
00:59:40the greatest gift the
00:59:41world has ever known the
00:59:43Bible talks about that if
00:59:44you acknowledge God as
00:59:45the father and Jesus as
00:59:46his son that if you ask
00:59:48him to be the Lord of
00:59:48your lives that you ask
00:59:50for forgiveness and you
00:59:51relinquish your own
00:59:54thoughts will everything
00:59:56and just give it to him
00:59:57and follow him in the life
00:59:58that he has called you to
00:59:59right that you secured
01:00:01your eternity it's never
01:00:02been about being perfect
01:00:03we all fall short of
01:00:05course we have rules and
01:00:06principles so that we can
01:00:07experience heaven here on
01:00:08earth but what it is it's a
01:00:10relationship and it's a
01:00:11laying down of your life to
01:00:13the person who laid down
01:00:14their life for you so we're
01:00:15all going to say this
01:00:16prayer together so that
01:00:17nobody feels embarrassed if
01:00:18you guys can bow your heads
01:00:19one last time and just
01:00:20repeat after me God thank
01:00:21you for tonight thank you
01:00:24for sending your son Jesus
01:00:26to die on the cross for me
01:00:28I ask you to come into my
01:00:30life be my Lord and my
01:00:34Savior I ask for your
01:00:36forgiveness and ask that
