Mike Evans Reacts to Emeka Egbuka's Arrival in Tampa | 2025 NFL Draft WR Surprise!

Nobody expected the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to draft a wide receiver in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft — not even star WR Mike Evans. But GM Jason Licht surprised everyone by selecting Emeka Egbuka at No. 19 overall, and it didn’t take long for Evans to be impressed.

In this video, we break down Mike Evans’ comments on Egbuka, including his eye-catching comparison:
"He looks like a running back, but catches like Chris Godwin."
From offseason workouts to minicamp performances, the rookie wideout is already turning heads in Tampa.

With a WR room stacked with talent like Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, and Tez Johnson, how will the Bucs utilize this explosive mix of youth and experience?

00:00With an already stocked Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver room,
00:04few expected general manager Jason Lick to draft a first-round wideout this spring.
00:09Yet the Super Bowl-winning GM stuck to his board, selecting the highest remaining player,
00:15wideout Emeka Egbuka, at number 19 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
00:21Even Mike Evans was surprised by the selection.
00:25I didn't expect to draft a receiver, either, but you know Jason has always been great in drafts,
00:32and we wanted to pick the best players available, and from what I've seen so far,
00:37he was definitely the best player available, Evans said on Thursday.
00:42So, looking forward to a great year for him, Emeka.
00:46Evans, who has generated at least 1,000 yards in every single one of his 11 pro seasons,
00:52has been impressed by the rookie receiver when he gets the ball in his hands during off-season workouts and minicamp.
01:00He looks like a running back, but I mean, he catches like Chris Godwin, Evans said of Egbuka.
01:07He's a very polished, very well-rounded player.
01:11The Bucs have talent in the receiver room coming out of the ears.
01:15Evans is a six-time pro bowler who can still petrify corners.
01:19When healthy, Godwin is a YC merchant.
01:23Jalen McMillan flashed vertical potential last season, coming on strong down the stretch.
01:29The additions of Egbuka and seventh-rounder Tez Johnson give Tampa more wideouts
01:34than it can even get on the field at once.
01:37I know I say it a lot, but this might be the best receiving room I've been a part of,
01:43Evans said.
01:43I say that every year, but we always get great players to come in.
01:49So that's been very fortunate for me in my career to be around great young players.
01:54And they've added to the room tremendously.
01:57They're already very polished.
02:00Emeka's really strong hands, super smart, Tez's speed, quickness.
02:05Evans added that the youth injected into the lineup helps keep him motivated to be great
02:10and chase another Lombardi trophy.
02:13It gives me more motivation like I was once in those shoes, and I remember that hunger,
02:19and it helps me keep that hunger, seeing young, great players like that that are hungry, he said.
02:25If Godwin, who underwent ankle surgery last year, is healthy for training camp and the regular season
02:32opener, it will be interesting to see how the Bucs rotate their receivers.
02:36Whether the youngsters will have specific packages, or whether the elder statesmen, like Evans,
02:43could get a few more reps off each game to stay fresh for the entire season.
02:48At this moment, Tampa's receiver unit appears to be one of the deepest and most balanced in the NFL.
02:55If everyone stays healthy, this offense could pose a serious threat to any defense.
03:00With the arrival of the newcomers, a perfect blend of experience and youth has been formed
03:06within the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
