Gianni Infantino says he wants 'soccer' to be on the same level as American Football in the United States

00:00I cannot wait for it to start. It is an incredible feeling of real excitement.

00:08I mean, you know, we are making history here, football history, a new era of football,

00:16a new competition for club football with clubs from all over the world. I mean, it's fantastic.

00:21Football is the number one sport in the world, is the global sport, but if you scratch a little bit the surface,

00:26you see that the elite is very much concentrated into really few clubs in a few countries,

00:33and football has to be global, so we need to give opportunities to clubs from other parts of the world to compete with the best,

00:41and then, you know, the field will say which one is really the best.

00:46One of our objectives with the Club World Cup and then the World Cup next year,

00:49this 12 months of huge soccer events in the US, is to project football or soccer at the top of the landscape here,

01:04and make it really one of the top, top sports here at the same level as basketball or American football and so on and so forth.

01:11Of course, it is the number one sport in the world already.

01:15It has to become one of the top sports as well in such a great country as the United States.
