Musician Winston Marshall has described the scenes in Tel Aviv, Israel after a shocking missile strike on the city by Iran.“Around sundown, there was the first warning alert and two waves of missies came in”, he said.“Up to seven hits. There was a big barrage of missiles. You get a real sense of terror.“Every building in Israel is going through the same thing right now. Everyone goes to safety bunkers. Alarms across the whole city and we’ve heard they were around the whole country.“The mood here is pretty tense. We’ve been told to be on alert through the night.”

00:00Yes, thank you, Patrick. I am just the southern part of Tel Aviv and Jaffa.
00:05It's been a tense couple of days and a tense couple of hours.
00:10It really started, I mean, earlier in the week there were missiles from Yemen,
00:13but last night at about 3 a.m. interrupting the gay pride,
00:20the beginning of the gay pride celebrations,
00:22was the sirens and alerts announcing the beginning of Operation Rising Lion.
00:31We all know what's going on there.
00:34And this, to us, we've gone through the drills.
00:38It's like, oh, there's something might be coming into Israel.
00:41But it seems now that that was a warning sign to tell the people of Israel
00:45that war with Iran had begun.
00:48And about most of the day has been tense, quiet.
00:54Most shops closed, although some shops open relatively peaceful in Tel Aviv along the beach.
01:01But about around sundown, there was the first warning alerts.
01:08And then there were two waves of missiles coming in.
01:13Your reporter says up to 100.
01:15We've heard up to 200, with up to seven hits.
01:20When you can see behind me, this is the skyline of downtown Tel Aviv to my north.
01:26We saw the traces coming in from the southeast.
01:30And it starts with a handful of them coming in quite slowly with,
01:34it seemed like the Iron Dome missiles taking them down.
01:39But then there was a big barrage of them.
01:44And as the traces, the orange traces, come at you, they start very slowly.
01:48And then they speed up.
01:49So then you get a real sense of, I mean, terror, frankly.
01:55And that was the first wave.
01:57Then every building in Israel across then, the whole country's going through the same thing right now,
02:04has these safe bunker areas.
02:06So everyone goes to those areas.
02:08And then we're told, oh, we can relax a little bit.
02:11We got out and we witnessed some of the second wave.
02:13Same thing again.
02:15Alarms across the whole city.
02:16And we've also heard across the whole country.
02:19And we see these orange traces coming towards us, first slowly and then very rapidly.
02:26And again, at that point, we go down to our bunker.
02:29So the mood here is pretty tense.
02:32And we've been told to be on alert throughout the night.
02:36I think that it's done at night intentionally to distress civilian population.
02:41I don't think anyone will be sleeping or certainly not comfortably in Israel tonight and around here.
02:48Winston, thank you very, very much.
02:50I really do hope that you stay safe.
02:52And I appreciate you quite literally sticking your head above the parapet for us,
02:55coming outside, showing us that backdrop there and telling us your experience of what happened there.
