00:00Magic Johnson was one of the greatest point guards to ever play in the NBA.
00:05He led the Showtime Lakers to five championships and was named the Finals MVP three times.
00:11You see, Magic grew up in a small town in Michigan.
00:15His father was a sharecropper and his mother was a domestic worker.
00:18And when Magic was just a baby, his parents were told that he would never walk or talk because he was born premature and underweight.
00:26But Magic defied those odds and not only learned to walk and talk, but he became one of the greatest point guards of all time.
00:34After winning the championship in 1980, Magic returned to his hometown heroes.
00:40The next day, Magic's mother called him and said,
00:43We need to talk.
00:44She told him that she was sick and tired of him playing basketball and that he needed to get a real job.
00:50So Magic went to work for his father in the fields.
00:53But after a few weeks, Magic told his mother that he didn't want to play basketball anymore.
00:58The following year, Magic's mother passed away from cancer.
01:02And in 1983, Magic led the Lakers to their fifth championship.
01:07In the Finals, he averaged 26 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists.
01:12And in Game 6, he hit the game-winning shot with one second left on the clock.
01:18Magic was named the Finals MVP.
