00:30the last vintage vehicle to appear was another bob gerr creation a motorized fire truck that
00:38began carrying small groups of guests on august 16th 1958 to deliver his creation to the park
00:44gerr actually drove the truck down the freeway for almost an hour from disney studios where it was
00:49built to anaheim inspired by the turn-of-the-century fire engines fire truck carries links hose along
00:56sides and has a bell mounted at the rear the siren has been replaced by a horn
01:01hello my name is steve finley i'm a main street vehicle driver at the disneyland resort we drive
01:14the vehicles up and down main street taking our guests to either end of main street i do all the
01:19vehicles we're all trained on all of them the omnibus and the horseless carriages also the fire
01:25engine is the one i'm identified with and people get upset if i'm not on here it's been 43 years
01:32almost 44 years that i've been with the park i came to main street vehicles in 1984 and loved every
01:39minute of it i get to drive faster here than going home on the freeway so it's always a delight
01:45this vehicle was built for the park in 1958 it's based on a 1916 american la france fire truck runs on
01:51natural gas now they converted over about 27 years ago the fire engine was originally supposed to have
01:57a rounded front end like our horses carriages but they decided to put a straight front end on it so
02:03it looked more american style also the bell in back that came from an actual fire engine we get to be a
02:10part of so many events here that's what's really exciting about main street vehicles we've been involved
02:14in weddings saving mr banks movie got to driving that talk to tom hanks in the back we did jungle cruise
02:21fields together it's a special area the favorite part of the route that i enjoy the most is getting
02:28up by the castle of course that's the the icon of the park everybody thrilled to see that so when we
02:34get up there it's special i make magic with the guests especially during the day i get to save their
02:40feet they're so happy to get on the fire truck and not have to walk up main street working with the
02:44people is what i enjoy coming here it doesn't feel like a job we just enjoy ourselves and again
