00:20misconception that is normal that just because you're a female that you're meant to suffer

00:25and meant to have pain a main contributor is pelvic congestion syndrome varicose veins in the pelvis

00:33for decades sufferers were dismissed and left to cope with searing pain on their own it was pretty

00:39unbearable um i lived on anywhere from minimum seven out of ten pain a day at one point at the absolute

00:46worst i was having to take tramadol um just to take the edge off to be able to work full time

00:53in emma's case doctors repeatedly told her it was just period pain she was misdiagnosed several times

01:01before she was diagnosed with chronic pelvic pain where they found a blocked vein 12 years of pain

01:07and being told it was normal period pain um yeah no one could do anything and then i met lorencia now

01:16two wollongong researchers have pioneered a treatment capable of providing relief to women with a

01:23procedure that inserts a stent or balloon into the vein emma had the stenting procedure in 2022

01:32and is now 21 weeks pregnant this whole thing here gave me the opportunity to fall pregnant which we

01:39didn't ever think was an option beforehand it gave me a life that i didn't think i was going to have

01:44at all for many women it's been life-changing these women are able to do the normal stuff that that we

01:51all take for granted like going for a walk going for a run going to the gym getting fit dance stand

01:57at a concert for you know two or three hours uh so it's incredible to see uh the joy of the little

02:05things that make life worth living
